That's some crazy stuff. The students voted to keep the nickname - twice!! From Google - it got national coverage back in the day.

Mid-Suburban West had the best 8A showing at 3-0. Barrington ran for 416 yards against Leyden (28-7); Palatine held ND to only 86 total yards and zero points(34-0) ; and Fremd passed for 440 against Brother Rice (45-42)..

Central State Eight went 3-2 (2-1 outside the conference, Decatur Eisenhower beat Jacksonville). The loss (Glenwood to Crete-Monee) and the wins (Rochester over Bethalto and SHG over Normal West) weren't particularly close.

Hoping for a 3-0 second round. I like Ike to break Peoria's defense. While I don't expect the teams to overlook round 2, the tests for SHG and Rochester will be in the quarters.

I'm curious how the Sun Times doesn't put CG in their top 25 when the Trib has them at 10 and Edgy at 13. Did Beth Long lose a bet on CG and has now put the hex on them?

Bad. NIC-10 1-3. Not a surprise though. The league has anywhere from 5A-7A teams in it. RPS schools aren't very good besides Auburn so what you get is 7A teams not prepared for the playoffs and -16 total yards from Harlem. Embarrassing. They need to make some changes in that league to get teams better prepared.

I will not assume ANYTHING when it comes to SHG, although there is no way I will ever pick them to win. As far as Eisenhower is concerned, I believe they will give up too many points to Peoria, although they will probably score some points. Regarding that game, I do not see a repeat of the Lions' game against Community West this year. I think you're safe in assuming the quarters will be Rochester's test (assuming they play Althoff), but I think it will be their toughest test for the ENTIRE playoff schedule. After that, polish the 4A trophy for them.

If I was a coach, I would really push for an 8 game, or even 7 game conference schedule, rotate who you don't play every two years. That way you can schedule a St. Charles area / Elgin / Arlington Heights / Quad Cities / Madison WI / Crystal Lake area school and hopefully get a competitive game in.

Or go get Sycamore and Dekalb and create 2 divisions (Big/Small). Play 5 division games, 2 crossovers, and 2 non-conference.

saw others mentioning conferences outcomes....

NIB XII(-2)

5-1 round 1

winners....Sterling,Dekalb,Sycamore,Morris and Rochelle

out...Geneseo
I'm guessing there will be 4 left going into next round only because sycamore has to play Rochelle , Northern Illinos Big 12 very tough conference,! Bring on the Southern schools like Meta and Washington and Over ranked by edgy no 1 Peoria, Morris Sterling Sycamore, and Dekalb could beat them!

This is exactly what needs to happen, but the large schools are completely content on having some conference success and making the playoffs. Post-season success doesn't seem to be as high of a priority.

I think so. And AD's like having a set schedule and not having to ride the phone to get a non-conference game.

I could ramble on forever about the state of the conference, especially the football and how it's gotten to this point, but I think a few things have really, really brought it down across the board.
1. This is an economics issue. I went to a Glenbard West playoff game last year and counted 15+ coaches on the side line coaching/charting plays/doing stats. Most of the suburban high schools that are strong programs have 20+ coaches on staff at all levels combined. Most of the Rockford schools I'd say are around 10-15. Not sure if there isn't enough booster money to pay the "volunteers," guys aren't interested, can't get off work. or what. Smaller budgets, less equipment, poorer facilities, harder to attract and retain top coaches, it all adds up. It's not one individual thing, its everything combined. Throw in the RPS205 discrimination lawsuit in the 90's as well.
2. Belvidere splitting. You've taken a 6-3 to 9-0 program on an annual basis that is now 2 schools that are 3-6 to 6-3. This then waters down everyone else's schedule. Instead of playing a solid belvidere team every year that is a game that's circled on your schedule, you know have a chance to beat 2 average teams. You then have then also taken away a non-conference game.
3. I don't think there's the same level of off-season commitment as the suburban schools. I don't think numbers are in the weight rooms winter/spring/summer. Is this an economic issue? Maybe? Some of these suburban powers have strength coaches that's a PE teacher getting an extra stipend to run lifts. I don't think that happens in Rockford. Do kids have to work a P-T job in Rockford to help mom/dad pay bills? Same goes with the Accelerations/EFT's/HEROH situations in the burbs', I can think of one in Rockford that's no where near the level of the 3 organizations I just listed.

Took her half a season to get Palatine in the top 25 too...she seems very south/southwest centric and enamored with "name" programs over who's actually performing that year. IE, she would probably still extol the virtues of Bolingrook and Providence this year...
