How does the Virginia flop

And a possible Duke loss to UNC affect the seeding for number 1's in the NCAAT?

Does it move Arizona, Wisconsin, Gonzaga or Villanova into a better position for securing a number one seed?

I know a lot depends on the conference tournament outcomes, but it sure looks like the battle for number one seeds is up in the air outside of UK.

I think the committee can justify dropping one of them to a 2. Whoever wins the ACC Tourney (assuming it is Duke or UVA) will get a 1 for sure.

You'd have to think that if Duke and Virginia both lose today and Wisconsin wins out, the Badgers would have a shot at grabbing a top seed.

Arizona has to be alive (if the win the P-12 tourney). Villanova has to win the BE tourney. I think Gonzaga is toast.

If Duke also loses, it just makes ACC vulnerable to not have any #1 seed. Also it guarantees that one of them will not be 1 seed. (the one that will be 1 seed will be the one that wins ACC).

Which means either Arizona or Wisconsin will move up to #1 seed. (Assuming everyone wins out). It's interesting which poll they will use to rank them.

UK is set as overall #1 seed. I don't think they can lose that spot.

If Duke loses tonight and then wins the ACC tourney then I say the the four #1 seeds are UK, Villanova, Wisconsin, and Arizona. If UVA wins the ACC tourney then swap Arizona with UVA.

Food for thought

Virginia - two - Duke and UofLol both ranked
Dook - three - NC State, Miami and Notre Dame the only ranked team
Villanova - two - Seton Hall & Georgetown both unranked
Wisconsin - three Rutgers Dook & Maryland both ranked
Arizona - three UNLV, Arizona State, Oregon State all unranked

If Duke loses today they should be out of the discussion for the moment. Sorry, but they have several losses, and not all of them "good". Virginia should still be in, and if they win the tournament they are absolutely deserving. If Wisconsin and Arizona both win out, in my opinion, both are more deserving than Duke no matter what Duke does (if they lose tonight).

You cannot consider Arizona either by your rationale...look at who they lost to. 3 garbage non-NCAA Tourney teams. If you are going to punish Duke for losing to 4 NCAA Tourney teams, I'm not sure how losing to 3 NIT or non-post season teams trumps that, when Duke has much better wins.

IMO it doesn't. UVa is still a 1, likely the 4th one, but does that really matter? I don't think so. If they lose in the ACCT before the final they may drop to a 2, and Wisconsin moves to a 1 assuming they win theirs. If they lose to Duke in the title game I don't think it matters. Look at the polls. There's a noticeable drop after the first 3. Wisconsin's best hope is Villanova losing. They won by nearly 40 today over a team with 20 wins.

It's a pretty false hope IMO. Villanova is set up with a cupcake path to the finals in the Big East tourney. They will probably get St. John's in the semis...as St. John's seems to own Providence this season. I do think Providence could play Nova tough, but again, I do not see Prov. beating St. Johns.

Could Georgetown or Butler beat Nova in the finals? Maybe, but will be tough.

I will say this about Wisconsin...if they win tomorrow, it appears OSU, Michigan State, and Maryland are all on the other side of the Big Ten Tourney bracket. That bodes well for an easy path to the finals for them as well with hopefully a healthy Jackson back.

It will be interesting to see if the Anderson surgery affects their seeding if they lose again in the ACC tourney. They are clearly a weaker team now.
