Knowing what it means to being set and knowing the snap count ... tons of mistake there.

It includes Long snapping. At different distances:

Place kicking: seven yards

Punting: 12 yards

Why not mandate QB2 long snapper - it’s a between the crotch pass. No one can hit you. Be a Man.

Kicking - look for a Mexican in the hallways. If none, start with kickball and see who can kick. Look for a thick lanky guy who can catch. And lift his leg into the air with force.

Master these things, ESL WILL be invincible.

And stop holding ... or getting caught.

Shutting your mouth also helps eliminate ref opinion fouls.

Mexicans are few and far between in the hallways at ESL!

There is holding on every play in football. If the refs are looking for it, they can find it. That’s at every level.

They practice special teams everyday and it is a focus but it always seems that a skill player always kicks better than the guy they have designated as the kicker/punter.

First game mistakes are out the way. No excuses going forward for the penalties. Learn how to hold and not get caught.

1. There is no snap count, its a hand clap
2. The backup QB IS the long snapper. Nice try
3. Out of 4 punts, the very first one of the game was the ONLY one went 15 yards, the other three were 40 plus!
4. The first one hit the goal post and the second one was perfect. The third got blocked which happens. Not sure how this is any different for any other high school or college kicker. It happens but its ESL.
5. Received 1 holding call the entire game. Nice try!!

ESTL could win a dang title or be a major contender every year in hoops/football/track. The envy of the rest of Illinois. @LHSTigers94 are football players still steered toward track team or no? looked up that Burgess kid with the Flyer chain and he looks like a heck of a track guy. Nothing on #1/2/7 as track guys, but they look the part

It was just the first week. You worry about those thing's midseason or going into the playoffs. Powell was kicking extra points last year. Sunkett mentioned that they didn't want to use him as much As they had the previous two years. He's finally healthy. In the 20yrs Sunkett has been there. He's only had about 3 or four kid's that kicked extra points. Damien Nash when he first started coaching at East Side. Jeremy Nicholson who was in the state team in 08. Julio during the 2013 season. Powell last year, and now Lovett. They always have gone for two. The Burgess kid is on the track team. Look how quickly they scored after the first possession. The defense held Batavia to a turnover on downs when they were in the redzone. Tyler has so many options to choose from. Then he's a threat with his legs. Witherspoon is going to be ok. The offensive line is going to be okay. Just lil penalties with false starts. After that. No problems. They are going to be ok. Get better each week. That's all you can do.

You think I'm a hater? Far from it! But if you're satisfied with those areas of the Flyer game, cool.

I don't think you are a hater, however your statements suggest something. No high school team is perfect and most lack something. ESL is fortunate to have a lot of speed which mean something else will be lacking. In this case it is a kicker. ESL hired a kicking coach (a person that kicked for a Div 1 program) and the results are the same. Why? Because it is a skill that they don't have. No one ever suggest a team should get faster however, most treat kicking as something everyone can do.

How can you not have a kicker, right? If only you spent more time kicking.

As far as the penalties are concerned, ESL learned a long time ago that the narrative will always exist therefore operate around it.

Example was this past weekend. Every TD after reaching 31 was called back. All of a sudden, the team that scored 5 TD's, 3 in the first quarter, could no longer execute and score another one. 3 TD's were called back for various reason which make things questionable. It would be different if the defense made adjustments and shut everything down. The issue is that wasn't the case. Outside of the 3 TD's that were called back, there was also a fumble on the goal line, an interception of a tipped pass on the 15 yard line going in and a turnover on downs at the 10 going in. An undisciplined team can not score 5 TD at any point in a game. Especially not the first 24 minutes. In the end, people will walk away with a narrative despite how well those kids played. It is what it is and no one is looking to change it.

All.... What about opinions on how to beat them? They already look pretty good. Ratsy
The only way to beat a good team like ESL is to take advantage of limited opportunities when available.. You can't drop passes, commit turnovers or commit crucial penalties.. Yep, play the perfect game I guess..

They seemed like good kids too.. You have to credit the coaching staff with that, imo...

If they really want to transfer in a kicker, it should be Seibert from Belleville West or even Ian Wagner from O'Fallon. Both will probably end up on FBS rosters

You better run that by LWE, they always say there better than everyone else even though they are NOT.

I don't think ESL has ever said they were the best team in the state. I could be wrong but I don't recall seeing that anywhere.

It's not really a topic. There is a national push around track season about football players running track. For some reason, its football season and not one track person has mentioned multiple sport athletes. If you truly believe in it push the agenda all year round. A cross country/ track guy just may be a great kicker.
