A bit raw right now, but to be expected. Incredible athlete, terrific size. 6'6, 230# (he's a redshirt freshman, I think we can fully expect him to grow, possibly up to 250# going into next year). Justin Rowland says the kid runs a 4.45 forty, which is insane for that size. Should offer some terrific explosiveness, and speed off the edges.

Huge potential for this kid. Only played 1 year of high school. Had 7 sacks in 9 games last year in his only year at juco but got better as he went and had 3.5 sacks in last 3 games.
Measurable and athleticism have potential to be elite. This is the type of edge athlete we've rarely had. Type of kid Mizzouri seems to get that has all the tools but under developed coming out of high school...spend a coulee years maturing and teaching them then turn them loose. Those type of Mizzouri stud DEnd measurables. Thin Aldon Smith and the Harris kid they have right now who was under recruited basketball player who is now 6'6 250 range that was a stud all SEC player this year as RS SO. That would be the blue print for this kid. Tennessee, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, and the University of UL all offered. Very very good piece up at the biggest position gap on the team.

Not where he needs to be yet, but has TON'S of potential. I sure believe he'll end up being a good one for us. Possibly a great one!

We are truly blessed to get a kid like this.

Posted in another thread that he has similar size and speed when compared to Florida's Alex McCallister.

Maybe we can use him as a RB or TE(ok not serious)but if he has that type of speed:cool2:

That is exactly who I thought of when I saw Bonner on tape. McCallister absolutely destroyed our Tackles.

Why does it seems like we only get players who have only played the game a year?? This is not to bash the kid and he may be all SEC before he leaves, but it just seems like we take a lot of these kids and they never crack the rotation. Any one else agree??

UK didn't sign him. Just a commitment. We'll know come early Feb.
Agreed...from all appearances, he is plan B for Tennessee and if their big DE commit (Kongbo) were to decommit as there is some scuttlebutt he might...Bonner would be a guy they may try to fall back upon as signing day approaches.

So it is good to have Bonner in the fold as of now...but as with many of our higher rated kids not coming in January...we have to fend off some teams to keep them down the stretch.

True, glad you pointed that out about Bonner/UT. Interestingly enough, UT just had a 4* HS DE and 3* HS DT decommit.

If he is still developing and that much of a talent, I would hope we would redshirt him next year if that is a possibility. Could benefit us more two years from now than next year and still have two years left.

I just hope we know how to coach him! I am sorry to be a downer but after what I witnessed this year with the coaching staff I have lost all faith and prior to last season I WAS all-in! But the decision not to hire a Special teams coach, the constant shadowing of Dawson by Stoops (whose specialty is supposedly defense) talent was not an issue it was game management and HORRIBLE coaching! I really don't see anything that makes me think it will change either. Stoops is too stubborn and set in his ways and will not allow the coaches we do have to do their job without him hovering over them. Jim McElwain was asked what was Nick Saban's best quality and his answer was he let his assistant coaches coach.

Sounds like he has good character, he didn't accept TU or Transfer U's offers.

Think that you're missing the irony by referring to another school as Transfer U in a thread about accepting a transfer. Pick your battles. :boxing:

No irony there, most JC transfers didn't qualify out of high school because of grades. I am talking about the large amount of transfers that are starring for UL that were kicked out of other Universities whose only redeeming quality is their athletic ability, several of whom a real University wouldn't allow on campus.

And if you insist on including JCs in that bunch, UK had two last year to UL's six, I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear some of those had character issues, and tUK two again in 16, not an unusual number for any class, and I am not sure I have heard of any character issues with any of our four.

The good news is Bonner is an Ohio kid with ties to our program. AND he has already used his official visit to UT so if they come after him late it won't be with him on their campus..

LOL...... Tenn has a few guys on our board a little higher than him, he's still a nice player though. Tenn also redshirted 2 DE's they are really high on.

Good. Hopefully Bonner is aware that your team is loaded at his position with players much better than he.

Well remember this, Saban didn't learn that overnight and let's hope that Stoops looks back at this year and learns something himself. He seems to be a pretty intelligent guy.

I didn't mean for it to sound like that. If we miss on a few guys it's possible we try to make a run at him. I think he's raw but has a nice upside.

Hope you don't believe Saban doesn't watch over his coaches and voice his opinions.

It was mentioned that the more experienced ones who are approximately the same measureables get wooed by the bigger names in the CFB arena. Another reason why it seems none of them have cracked the rotation is because they really do need time to get better than even some of the guys Joker left us. Not to mention that many of them are on the lines.

Meant is the one I am thinking of, specifically. Hell, Meant even made it into the starting spot this season. It's tough for anyone to come in right away and contribute let alone as a second year prospect in the SEC. I believe we'll see many more of these guys contribute in the next few seasons.

Hopefully he is,a dismond in the Riff and he turns out to be a,stud! We are due for someone like that on D. Him and Ware could be a nice pass rush duo moving forward. I hope Kengra and Alken Kid bust out next year. I think them 2 can be a factor next year as well. If thise 4 can gave a decent year next year it will help us do much on 3rd downs IMO.

From the highlights it looks like he has a really good burst of speed. Looks a little light for an every down type of SEC DE. He could play DE and LB in our system. Thing to remember is he has speed length and a frame to pack on more weight. He'll develop for us. I like him for what it's worth.

The signed part has been commented on, but I'm a little more worried about the "they". I thought it was we ;)

So what happened with your future QB Johnson?
IDK. We've got 2 4* freshman on campus and the #2 DT, #31 overall QB committed for next year. Also our O is designed for the QB to run more than normal and Johnson is better in the pocket. Odd though with me saying all of this, he commits to Clemson who runs a similar O than us and they got a 4* QB commit the very next day. Wish he would of stayed but I guess you can't get them all.
