I know some of you are near that area. I have an opportunity to move to a new job there and have time to make a decision. I live in Virginia near DC. We like it here EXCEPT for the housing. Most housing here is two or three level housing. I currently own a town home. Three flights of stairs to the bedroom. We love a ranch style home but those here are mostly built in the 50's and 60's.

I have been to Atlanta several times but living there has to be different. Thanks in advance for any input.

There on business regularly. Traffic sucks.

I saw that a few times myself. I commute here but the commute I have now has allowed me to read the bible through nearly twice a year for the last couple years versus driving I ride the train. About a 45 minute commute. I only live about a mile and a half from the train. Have a 6 tenths of a mile walk. I can't complain about my commute now. If I stay here I will have to move at least another ten to twelve miles away to attempt to get the type home we want. Still will ride the train.

HA, I didn't realize I had ever mentioned where I graduated. I liked that school. It was the first school I ever attended college-wise that they would help me as quickly after I enrolled as when they were trying to get me to enroll. It was a good school. (It has Texas A&M on my diploma) (I knew you were good people! I just didn't know why.;))

I attended grad school classes there and also University of Dallas and SW Texas State. Remember Dr. Larson? Or Larsen? Good lord, he was a big butthole.

You mention that. I will have to look it up to be sure it was him but I do think it was. I was sitting for my in person final exam (Yes all, but AustinT knows) You had to actually take a comprehensive exam in front of all your professors at Tarleton. (I think I had four of them at the time. It has been a while.) But, anyway, I think it was him about the middle of my oral exam he stopped me and stated it sounded like I was trying to baffle him/ them with BS (He used the words.). I was in my forty's then. (I was stunned for about five seconds) Anyway part of my thesis was chosen for me by the college.

It so happened my subject was what I did for a living at the time and I had just sold that business and had 11 employees and part of my exam was e-technology and technology marketing on the technical side. I love being challenged. (I am quiet about things I am not totally certain of but in my realm I tend to take command.) I got a lot smart with him and used some grade school language. I stated to him; "Let me "learn" you something you SOB and I used the words.) I really took offense at him and can usually control my emotions but didn't on purpose.) I took that dude down a rabbit hole and he was trying to gracefully bow out but I controlled it from that point and the other instructors didn't interrupt me as they saw I wasn't in that mood and I think a couple were angry at his attitude also thinking I had a serious case of a law suit. (It is a whole different world a lot of times putting "theory" into practical applications in a business.). I passed my exam and graduated with an MSIS.

Even he didn't put a damper on my experience. I would still recommend TSU to anyone. That confrontation may have made me better. I was angry at the time but I can't complain. You mentioned it and it brought back the memory.

During my grad school interviews, he was absolutely brutal. Telephone was tough. In-person was humbling. He was definitely an old-school MIS professor. Unforgettable.

I have lived around the country.

Metro Atlanta is big (about 6M people). 9th biggest market in the country. About the same size as Metro DC.

Traffic is terrible. I live 4.5 miles from work. On a bad afternoon, it sometimes can take me an hour to get home. Full disclosure: I drive through the worst traffic location in the city.

Lots to do.

Although we have all professional sports (except ice hockey; we can't keep a hockey team). Even the pro soccer team has a lot of support.

Lots of restaurants. Really good ones.

Lots of entertainment (including adult). Almost every major musical act has an Atlanta stop.

Plenty of bars, but not many old-time neighborhood bars.

Plenty of hot women.

Many transplants from the North.

Overall very conservative. (Newt Gingrich comes from an Atlanta suburb.) We have a stupid redneck governor. Several of the mayors have been crooked.

Lots of rich people (including billionaires). Plenty of luxury and exotic cars.

For the most part, people are friendly.

Big-time airport.

With exceptions, the weather is good. When it snows (which is rare), people go into panic mode.

We do not have big parks (as Louisville does), but lots of smaller ones.

We have a puny river if you want to do some water recreation. A few lakes nearby.

Lots of festivals. Great people watching.

Pretty much the capital of college football. The College Football Hall of Fame is here.

Atlanta has little regard for tradition. We build stadiums. 20 years later, we tear 'em down and build new ones.

We have lots of big sporting events here: Summer Olympics, this year's Final Four, Super Bowls, World Series, all-star games for NBA, MLB, bowl games, etc.

(FYI, I have always lived ITP.)

I lived there over 20 years before I moved back home to Florida. Retired. If you want quality of life I recommend you move close to Lake Lanier. Forsyth or Dawson County. And you can own as many guns as you want. No problem. The mountains are beautiful and the water is clean. You might even see the ghost of Chief Sawnee.
