How let down will you be if Liam ends up not being the hire ?

Depends on who we name. Can’t wait to see how Stoospy lets the next OC call plays.
Not much , simply because I’ve always thought the stars would have to align perfectly for that hire to happen.
Im fine with Coen, but would prefer a college guy. Would obviously depend on the hire before I could determine if it was a letdown not getting him.
None really. Other schools have shown they can score a lot more points than a Cohen UK team did the one year he was here. So one man is not going to make or break us. Coaches come and go.
What a want to see, no matter who the Cats get, is a real OC who calls the plays without inteference from the HC. Especially when you have a 2 or 3 touchdown lead. Go up 21 in the middle of the 3rd Quarter and keep playing to put more points on the board. It has been a long time since we had an offense like that.

Coen isn't the only option out there. I can get just as excited, if not more, depending on who they get.
Agreed, needs to be a younger high energy guy with a proven track record. Tired of these retread coaches who have been journeymen.
Not impressed by the guy from Cincinnati at all either. That will be a huge let down.
My biggest concern is CMS--possible interference.

If we're ever going to climb the sec ladder, we need continuity. It's one reason why our defense is so good. We will never climb the ladder if we change schemes every single year.
*So we need either coen or another rams offense guy to keep continuity for another year or two. Then woody will be ready and we will be set for another few years

Agree with this except for the final horn part. There does come a time in the game where you aren’t necessarily looking to score but then the game is comfortably in hand to where backups are in and do need some solid game reps. Great coaches know when to call off the dogs and it’s not when stoops always decides too (with his first string still in game)

Folks being negative about Coen's results (which were great by UK standards BTW), seem to forget, that was his FIRST YEAR calling plays in the SEC !

My 3 picks:
1. Coen - you know what you are getting and he did well the first time around. If he would stay 3 years or more (make him one of the top paid OC's in the country), I think we would see a great offense and better offensive talent recruited.
2. Brian Hartline - from Ohio State, but their OC just left to be head coach at Tulsa so he probably gets the OC at OSU
3. Brennan Marion - This guy is interesting. At Texas now and not the OC but has run the Go-Go- offense. It is up tempo and uses unusual formations to confuse the defenses. Hard to prepare for as no one, that I know, in Power 5 runs this offense. Marion states the up tempo puts pressure on the defense and the unusual formations add to that pressure as the defense is not familiar with the formations. If I were Stoops, I would at least talk to him. It is triple option but uses the pass frequently. Only drawback is Marion has had 11 jobs since 2011 so you would have to get him on a 2-3 year contract or he may jump elsewhere. We have good SEC talent just not the depth or extreme talent of Bama/Georgia etc. How can you make up for this discrepancy? A conventional offense run efficiently will allow us to compete/beat any of the other SEC teams which leads to 8-10 win seasons and that is great. However, I think we may need to take a chance on a guy like this to "make up the talent gap."

He had a good year for Kentucky but a pretty average year overall- but some of that Is Stoops pace of play. I'd definitely be happy to have him but at the same time..the grass was definitely bluer in the off-season in LA(if they got grass
) so I would want some heavy language about tenure. Need a 3 year commitment with a huge buyout during first 2.

A lot of that I believe is pace of play as you said. When we play that slow intentionally, you can’t say “average year overall” and compare merely points output to other programs.I think it could be our best bet while also thinking we are putting Coen on a pedestal he may or may not be able to surpass..

The efficiency metrics paint a better picture. Under LC we were top 10 in the nation in Redzone conversion….this year we fell into the 120+ range
Did you trust Stoops with Scang or Dawson? Let’s be honest, he doesn’t have a great track record with OCs…..2/5 we’re fired their first year.
I want Dan Mullen. Would be fine with Coen but think a guy with more college type offense would be better.
I want Coen because he is a known quantity. I think that is why most people here want Coen. But I would be open to someone else if that person is a good fit and is what most would consider a homerun type hire. But this is a very important hire. It isn't a time to experiment. Nor can we afford to mess around with someone who would need lots of OJT. We know Coen can do the job. We know he can coach and attract QBs. We know he can scheme to get playmakers open. We know he can score on a regular basis when we get into the red zone. We know Stoops trusts him to run his offense, so there isn't going to be any potential issues there. Coen is solid. So to avoid being let down, if it is someone besides Coen, it better be someone who makes me think "oh hell yeah" when I hear the name announced.
Ehh he has earned a lot but his OC choices have been questionable. If he get Coen and let’s him let it rip then I will trust him with OC hires
To be fair Bama loses coordinators every year and they are at the top every year. If you get enough elite level 5 star players you can overcome a lot of coaching turnover.

I'd take Gino if Coen is not an option. He was a UK commit until sanctions hit during the Mumme years, so he did grow up rooting for the blue and white. He's got Ohio recruiting connections and enough play calling experience that he helped Fickell get a new gig.
He isn't garbage but he's a far drop. Will high level transfer qbs line up to play for him? Is it worth changing schemes yet again to hire him? Was it worth paying over 2 mil in buyout money?
