I had to get out before they caught me!

We generally have Graduate Assistants, Coordinators, Assistant Directors, Associate Directors and Directors. It's very similar to coaching in that you work your way through the ranks, usually by switching schools to set yourself up for that first head coaching job (Director in our case), which is usually at a smaller school, then you look to move up to a larger school. I've enjoyed moving from school to school.
As long as a person's health is in order then I think it is great to move onto new challenges every few years. Keeps you sharp. When I encounter folks that have been in the same company for 20-30 years they are invariably looking for a soft spot to hide. Keep doing what you're doing for as long as you can do it and you'll be stronger for it career-wise.

23 years at my hospital. 4th different job tho. Proud to say I'm the last hourly worker in my classification (was grandfathered in when we split away from the state). Yeah, the salaried folks make more than I do in base pay, but I make up for it with overtime. In the long run, I make more. Could have retired last year, but after seeing a bunch of coworkers retire and then return, I'm sticking around for a little while longer.

When I was a teenager. A guy that worked for Electrolux would come to our house every year or so selling vacuums, bags, and parts. He had been with them for years and at age 43 decided to open a carpet store on a part time basis. It grew enough that one day he visited us and told us he was leaving Electrolux and doing flooring products full time. A few years later, after I got married, I visited his store needing some carpet. He was so happy to see and told me something I would never forget. He said, "find something you are good at and start your own business. It's the best thing I ever done".

I often thought about that while I worked for the man for 24 years. Finally, I decided it was time for me to go the same route. It has been absolutely the best career move I ever made. The last 15 yrs has brought me more happiness and financial gain than I ever thought possible.
