Has AM had the ball with just a minute or three left in the game with a chance to drive and take the lead, only to not do it. Has he ever led a late 4th quarter score for the lead?

Or more generally have we ever scored a point in a two minute drill or OT in the SF era?

How many times did he lead a drive last night to take the lead only to have the defense give it away?

Watching Martinez this year is like watching a really good movie that has a terrible ending … thus spoiling the entire flick.

Just had someone tell me this, it's 1 -13.

It's frustrating for sure. He has to know that Mich may and try to strip the ball in that situation, but as they say, it is what it is. NU has found just about every conceivable way to lose close games in the Frost era. At some point you would think this trend would reverse itself.

I have never been down on Martinez. He has exceptional talent. Close your eyes and imagine what he would look like playing for tOSU, Alabama or even Iowa.

We took the lead in the 4th and lost it. That has nothing to do with the question posed.

Sorry, but it's a question on an equal level. If the offense was lighting it up and the defense was giving up point you'd be asking the opposite. It was the defense job to preserve the lead we fought all game to get.

C'mon man. I think you're better than this. Read the OP and get back to me.
Did the defense give up the lead or not?

I don't know the answer to your question.

AM did enough to win that game. The defense needed to get off the field and couldn't.

This is really mind-numbing. No, it is an entirely different question. If someone wants to start a post with "how many times have we taken a lead in the 4th quarter only to have the D give it back," then by all means please start that thread. You guys are killing me. Focus fellas.

Thank you. Now, to your question, the D did allow MU to take the lead back in the 4th. With roughly 3 1/2 minutes left, we had the ball in a tie game. AM fumbles, giving MU short field. D holds them to 3. We get the ball back, and can't even get into fg range. Two chances in last 3 1/2 minutes to get to opponents 35 or better to take lead or at least put it into OT, and nada.

AM has 1 career 4th quarter comeback win, in 2019 @ ILL

we have lost an FBS-leading 16 games by 8 points or less during his time here
Yes, but I wouldn’t blame him for every one of those one position losses either…

He’s the QB so the QB always get‘s the majority of the blame..

If Nebraska had won, AM would have been the game MVP. But he also had two turnovers. Zero turnovers and it is likely Nebraska would have won. So he was simultaneously both the hero and the goat.

Nebraska had to over come 2 gift calls from the officials given to Michigan that benefited in their win..

Or having a QB coach that could actually teach him how to set his feet and throw. A high caliber QB coach could make AM 10 times better in a month.
The seeing the field part, is a whole different animal.

I tend to agree, I think it was Nikki, but we have a timid, on the field, lamb at QB, and what we need is an on-field monster like SF was at QB. Run into contact, make minimal mistakes.

SF threw the football like he threw the shotput, but he was pretty accurate, and had a never take a step back type attitude. A QB has to be tough physically and especially mentally, and AM lacks both.

FWIW, in that game we more than doubled up Illnois in yards, and went ahead with 8:00 left.
Similar to Rutgers last year, where we more then doubled them in yardage, and broke the tie with 9:55 left.

We were -3 in turnovers, but otherwise pretty much dominated both games.

Unfortunately you're either a hero or a zero

True, which is why I don't think he comes back here next year. A change of scenery and new QB coach could turn him into a Heisman candidate/NFL Draft pick. He should go play for Kiffin at Ole Miss next year after Corral goes pro.

He wouldn't. Saban would have already killed him for the boneheaded plays he makes...

Frost said in the post game that the Offense scored too quickly at times and the Defense was on the field a long time. Both Defenses actually were gassed.

AM played great but historically he isn’t the best at protecting the football when the game is on the line. The team doesn’t know how to close games and just didn’t get it done (again). Simple as that.
