Get married at White Castle it will save you a bundle or better yet just call the whole thing off. I have been married for 28 years and sometimes I feel like I was born married as it feels like I have been with my wife my whole life..Marriage is over rated..LOL..I owned a DJ service for 15 years of so and some of the best receptions were the ones done on the cheap. The ones where big dollars were spent most the time the bride was a complete B**** and the mom was worse. I did one a few years ago at the Brown-Williamson club at Papa John's Stadium and one of the bridesmaid told me the wedding/reception was in excess of $60K..the brides dress was cost over $20K and she was miserable the entire reception worrying and stressing over every little thing.Besides that I had to play 1 hour of solid Kenny G music during "cocktail hour". I felt like jumping off the damn balcony.

And the best two weddings I have ever attended were on Cruise ships in the Caribbean. You invite a ton of people and the ones that come are your true friends. Not only do you get a wedding, everyone else also gets a vacation and working with a travel agent can get the price per person cheap as hell. Also drink packages on ships are cheap as hell now so it's an open bar all week long.

Never discount eloping vs. spending tens of thousands on a one day event. We were nowhere near elaborate with 200 people 12 years ago yet had all the wedding standards and spent between $15-$20k total including rings and honeymoon. The worse part is how family members take over in some instances. It's hard to say no to a new family and it really seems they knew this.

Have a big yard at your house or know a friend of family member with a big yard? Have the wedding there. Saves a **** ton of money. Have the wedding in the front or back yard, have the reception in the other yard.

If you insist on alcohol, make it a full cash bar with expensive ****. Will turn away anyone that was invited and would only show up for free or cheap alcohol.

Don't go cheap. I don't know what that is for you, but your wife does. Think of it as an investment in not just a day, but a lifetime. Don't put enough into that investment and you will hear about it for the rest of your life.

If I had it to do over, we would have went to Vegas or Florida and gotten married in front of family and a few friends. The remaining cash could have went straight to the down payment of our home. He offered 10K cash if we wanted to go the other route

I believe our wedding was close to 15k, thankfully my F-I-L flipped the bill. That was cutting a bunch of expenses....wife found a dress she loved for less than $600, got a good deal on the church and hall, beer and food only.

I had more fun the night of the recital dinner than that of my wedding.

You'll hear about it or some part of it no matter how much you spend. Something won't he perfect and they'll harp on that. Women, man.

You're right but this is why I thank god for Amy poehler. They were filming an episode of parks and rec at our venue the night of our rehearsal. Wife got to meet amy poehler, and she told her, and I quote, "congratulations." That made everything about the wedding golden for my wife

So White Castle or booking Amy Poehler for the rehearsal?

Got it. Great advice!

And think of it as an investment? Good Lord. That's so absurd it can't be addressed.

No wonder the whole thing is a shitshow. Basically everyone who is not a GYERO poster can't even make a rational suggestion about the topic, it seems.

Legit advice.

1) Hire a good photographer who knows how to shoot in low light with and without flash. Spend money on this. It makes a HUGE difference because these will be the spark plugs for your wife's memories for the rest of her life, and if they're ****** sparkplugs with red eyes and washouts, then that's not going to go well for you.
2) If you're still looking for a venue, consider a public park. You might be able to book a site and they're cheap compared to wedding venues.
3) String up lights. Those hipster industrial lights are probably you're best bet.
4) You can go cheap with food but make it something cool. I had a friend who hired a few food trucks and that was awesome and not as expensive as might think.
5) Consider booking a venue not on a Friday or Saturday. They usually give big discounts for weekdays, if that's no thing for you.
6) Hell yes it's an investment. You'll understand on the other side.
7) Evaluate whether or not the Paddock is the best place to solicit wedding advice. There are plenty of message boards run by people who know more about this topic than anyone on here. Those people are called women. Give them the sad, puppy dog, "I don't know what I'm doing, guys" routine and they will probably offer to plan your wedding for free.
8) Don't tell anyone you're looking to hire or rent from that it's for a wedding. They will jack up the price by at least 10%.
9) Don't rent tuxes. The kind you rent look cheap and tacky. Have everyone in your party wear a suit of the same color. Buy yourself a nice one of the same tone, and then spruce it up with a nice tie and trimmings. You'll feel classy, and classy is how you should feel.

Wedding cost depend on the type of celebration you are looking for (a huge celebration, small traditional event can be the options). while planning any party it is really very important to create a budget for yourself. Plan according to your budget, finalize the venue that fulfills your requirements in the budget. Recently a neighbor of mine got married, as they were low on the budget, they took the help of The Addison professional team, they prioritized everything invested less money in the decoration, but the food was tasty and wedding Boca Raton venue was spacious, comfortable for guests to enjoy the party. One should always pre-plan everything and then start the preparation.

Asking how much a wedding costs is like asking how much a car cost. It all depends on what's in your budget. I do videography and photography for weddings and have seen everything under the sun. I've seen 100k, and 1k. I think I heard a stat that the average bride spends 20k on a wedding.

Photographer: iPhone-$4000
Video: 1k-$2500
Chapel: free-3k
Reception Hall: free-5k
Food: potluck (yes I've seen this)-20k
Drinks: free-10k
Dress: $400-5k
Flowers: $200-6k
Music: free-8k (full band)
Hair/makeup: free-1k
Shoes: free-$300
Jewelry: free-4K
Invitations: Facebook-2k
Decorations: free-10k

And this is just what I can think of off the top of my head.

We are planning one right now and that is about right. I put "X" dollars on the table for my daughter and told them they can use the balance on a down payment for a house. They will have a nice wedding and a good stake towards their first home, if they are smart, and I think they will do the right thing.

As an aside, I remember that probably 3 of the 4 biggest most elaborate weddings I ever attended ended in divorce, and pretty much within a few years. Don't think any of the 3 couples even had kids, they broke up so soon. Moral to the story is that the wedding is just day 1 of the marriage.

I'll tell you this, do an open bar. People will pull part of the gift if it's not. I'm not about to give $100-150 for a gift (or $200 if I'm with a date) just for a meal.

I suspect a wedding I'm going to soon might not be open bar (you picked what you like to drink on the invitation, which was weird), plus the bride seems the type to get cheap.. If that's the case I'm cutting the gift in half.

Do the right thing and have an open bar, you'll get more in gifts anyways.

Oh, so we're all just going to pretend it's not weird that a marketing bot for a Boca Raton Kosher wedding planning company just bumped a thread titled "wedding cost" on a UK sports off-topic messageboard, that died over a year ago?

One cousin of mine planned a destination wedding in October to Jamaica. What does the next cousin do, destination wedding to st. Lucia. I won't be going to either I'm not paying 2k in airfare per wedding just to be on someone else's strict schedule. I'll drink here while everyone's gone and send a card

They don't want you there. The real purpose of a destination wedding is to winnow a guest list to jet setters who know how to party.

I didn't notice. I've been married so long that I don't pay attention to anything but my descent into death.

Attended a wedding some 40 years ago at a park shelter house. Maybe 150 guests. The meal was hundreds of Whitey Kassels and fries & a couple kegs of beer.

Im good on all this advice. No thanks. That's not an investment at all, how bout take 20K and just buy a rental property/house? That's an investment. You silly gooses spending all these 1000s of dollars on BS. I've been in 10 weddings and probably been to 20. Like bbdk said, I don't remember the 40K one more than than $4K one.

To be honest, I don't remember much of anything about any of them.

Sounds like they at least had an open bar.

I used to have a mobile DJ business and have done probably 50 or more weddings. I did one at the Brown-Williamson club in Papa John's stadium. I charged $400 for 4 hours which is dirt cheap. The I found out the bride's dress cost around $30K and the entire reception was close to $80K. They paid more the cheese tray than they did for my entertaining them. If I had that one to do over, I would have hit them for around a grand..Weddings are big business and so much of it nothing short of BS. Most people are there for the free food and drink, they could give a crap about the decorations..

Just built a house (down-sizing). Wife had a garage sale to help get rid of 30+ years of useless crap we'd accumulated. In those boxes of crap were decorations from our daughters' weddings. Decorations included little branches with lights and crystals that were still in the box marked $15 bucks per branch. Laid a few off on some suckers for $1 each when my wife went inside to tinkle.
Advice: if getting married, spend as little as you can and put the rest of it toward buying a house, paying off student loans, etc.... If paying for your daughter's wedding, give them x dollars and tell them to do whatever they want with the money but that you're not giving her one cent more. As her dad, you MUST keep your head because you will be the only voice of reason in the process. Give her $10K or less. Talk a lot to the groom...as he's interested only in the honeymoon anyway. Talk finances with him. He's likely to see things your way.

Find a retired gay dude. They love this ****. Will do it for damn near nothing. They know where all the deals are. And they are more money conscious than women. Bonus: you get to be validated as not homophobic. Everyone wins.

Go super small wedding, closest friends & immediate family, so 10-20 max. And then after the honeymoon (so 2 weeks later), have a big wedding reception/party for the 100+ guests. You two will enjoy it more, and so will the guests, and you will save $.
