How much younger can a man date before it’s “awkward “?

Since none of you knew my grandparents, how about this example, for those of you touting the half-plus-seven or the thirty “rule”: had any of you been throwing up either of those barriers in 1962 (and if they actually meant anything), you would have denied the marriage of one Joseph V. and Suzanne Paterno.

That one's pretty gross, given that Sue was just a college frosh when she met a 31 or 32-year-old man who decided to pursue her ... but it's a 14 year difference. Not quite enough to allow Sue to be his daughter ... unless she grew up in the backwoods of the Appalachias. But still gross and not appropriate. Especially since he was somewhat of an authority figure at the school she attended. I mean, when they met, she was dating a football player that Joe was coaching, and she called him Mr. Paterno. All the ews.

When I had a pre-marriage meeting with the priest that was going to perform my wedding, he asked my why I love my (now) wife. I couldn’t answer him and he kept asking the same questions in different ways. And I just kept saying I don’t have an answer. Finally I said, “I think I could define it or pick out particular traits I wouldn’t be in love.” He didn’t have an answer for that but 25 years later I stand by it. I could probably name 50 women I know that have similar traits of my wife, but I don’t love them. I feel like it’s out of my hands.
Age is not necessarily a deciding factor in awkwardness as much as the relationship itself.
