How physical is your job?

<----- Systems Analyst. Hence my reason for cycling/walking all over north Austin and nearly everywhere else I go. When I started this job back in late 2010, more physical work was involved. No longer true these days.

I am a Systems Analyst as well. Been doing this job since 1988. My entire pre-job days were spent outside playing athletic sports. The job, it's responsibility, and family put a strain on physical activity.

95% desk/computer. I'm in engineering and mostly am working in SolidWorks, Excel, MaxTraq (motion analysis), couple other things. From time to time I get to do some physical stuff setting up for tests, or doing some cutting/drilling/etc. to build something for an experiment.

I have worked in warehouses for probably 12 years of the 24 years I have worked since I was 18. My current job isn't to physical but my back is so messed up from a previous job that it constantly is bothering me. I worked at Kroger Distribution Center when I was younger and they worked you to death out there. We worked overtime pretty much everyday and they forced you in on your days off all the time. I had to pick probably 2,000 to 3,000 cases a day and quite a few hundred were in the 60-80 pounds range. I now have virtually no disc in my lower back and had one back surgery so far. Will likely have to get a rod in my back in the future. So I really need to get into an office type job before I am crippled. Probably will be hard to find an office job with no experience at 42 years old.

Yeah, in a previous profession, I was also frequently outdoors engaging in such activities as hiking long distances, running and even shooting at other people on occasion using various weapon systems. Those days are not missed. I suppose we must trade one inconvenience for another as we journey through life.

Since my promotion, not as much as it use to be. Thankfully. You wouldn't think working fries would be that physical, but you'd be wrong. It's the heat.
