We are in the worst situation since the sanctions. How do we salvage the situation after getting f'd up by the Mormon Church?
Well, football supports the entire academic machine at PSU.I voted Other.
I think it's time for Penn State to take a year or two off from football. We have lost perspective about what's truly important in higher education.
You can’t use logic here. Obviously good coaches are still playing but a lot of fools don’t understand thatMy thoughts? No one asked but........
If PSU hasn't announced a coach yet, it is perhaps likely that the coaches in question are still competing, and unlike Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss, they will continue to coach through their playoff run.
I'm actually good with that. Too bad we had to sacrifice tomorrow, but remember, VT will always be VT and PSU will always be PSU. Those poor kids who flipped will be treated like Singleton, Allen and Allar were as seniors under Franklin.
PSU is in dire need of forced fiscal austerity.Well, football supports the entire academic machine at PSU.
To play devil's advocate, if that were true, why the hard push for Sitake? You can’t use logic here. Obviously good coaches are still playing but a lot of fools don’t understand that

4) Would think someone like Pettine is a more plausible choice than Brady for various reasons but one would be, Pettine is ripe for change of scene Brady not so much1. Hartline
2. Diaz
3. Terry with elite resources for coordinators and portal
4. NFL guy (Joe Brady) and make Terry the highest paid assistant HC to help bridge the gap
Sounds good to me. I’m buying and I have no animosity. Most of my posts on old board are just to get rise out of people.Someday KnicksLion, you and I are going to sit down and enjoy a beer together. Put our differences aside and appreciate our similarities.

Other: Shut it down.
Bonus: Manny has awesome hair.I'm in the Diaz camp at this point. We have a couple of issues that may be working against us and he's uniquely positioned to handle them.
Roster turnover- Outside of Terry, he's the only candidate who really has any relationship with players currently on the staff. We're going to lose guys to VT in the portal, I think Manny can keep that number more manageable.
Staff turnover- We don't want to lose the entire staff (maybe some here do). Like the roster, Diaz has more relationships with staff members we want to keep from Blacksburg than any other candidates outside of Terry.
Roster and Recruits- Unlikely Terry, Manny has Duke's roster and 2026 recruiting class to bring pieces from. It's not a bunch of elite talent, but we are going to have a lot of holes to fill and Terry doesn't have any quick fixes here.

Oh Good Lord, we were groveling for Sitake because we have Playoff coach locked in???? Then sprinkle in some more whining about Franklin who hasn't coached at PSU in nearly two months with a bunch of bs about how his new team is going to rue the day..... blah, blah, blah. Some of you are pathetic - truly pathetic. You aren't PSU fans, you're anti-Franklin psycho douchebags. I swear, most of you have zero affection with PSU and probably some type of affiliation with Vanderbilt where your hatred of Franklin initiated.

Diaz would be my second option. I think both Diaz and Smith give us a “floor” of performance we can live with due to the familiarity of the place and abilities to motivate players. Diaz can run the defense himself and just needs a strong OC. It would be interesting to see if he could get us into the playoffs by year 3 and win big in year 4. I just wonder if he would even talk this week with a game this weekend.I'm in the Diaz camp at this point. We have a couple of issues that may be working against us and he's uniquely positioned to handle them.

Campbell is a helluva coach and I would be good with him. Same with Diaz at this point. Krafty’s blundering is putting whomever takes the job in a big hole right out of the gates. They’ll be playing a lot of catch up.I'm going Campbell, can't believe we haven't contacted him. We can't take big swings and misses at this point, if he wants the job(or Diaz for that matter), it's time to go lock it up. Both will be stable, are youngish, think they will do as well or if not better than Franklin. The Krafty proclaimed "championship" coach, clearly doesnt exist or isn't coming here. No more embarrassing egg on the face whereby we offer another Kraft favorite only to have him turn around and take more money at his program....has to be a guy that says "I sign now if you offer me $9m and 6 years. At this point, whether you favored it or not, he can't go Terry. Terry with the 2 best coordinators money can buy means Terry is replacing coordinators every year as they get their shot with programs making changes quicker than ever and huge $$$ involved. Chesney, although I liked as a quick replacement to Franklin at a slight bargain, has assuredly become no bargain as Krafty has been dicking around. Brohm is going to command a huge pay increase to leave his alma matter, see sitake. I think you sort of split the baby with a guy like campbell or diaz. Likeable young guys(but not boys hardly), steady, won't be looking to leave after the first upset of OSU down the road.
"VT will always be VT and PSU will always be PSU"... That is what Nebraska thought when they turned on Solich and then ran Pellini out of town after consistent 9+ win seasons.... In this era of minor league football the past is truly the past. Anybody who can show the money will succeed. After a few 3 win seasons and Beaver Stadium being half empty the death spiral of fewer and fewer $$$ to chase talent can kill the program indefinitely. I'm not saying that is what is going to happen none of us know but the assumption implied in your comment might not hold water. Just sayin'My thoughts? No one asked but........

Campbell, Diaz, Brohm, etc - just get us someone who has HC experience and can hit the ground running.I'm going Campbell, can't believe we haven't contacted him. This is the paradox I see for many fans (including myself)... Are we willing to truly suck for a season or two to wait for the coach that gives us the highest CHANCE to win a national championship (honestly I'd take winning the Big Ten outright as good enough) or do we need someone that will keep us bowl eligible while we hope for lightening in a bottle. If it is the later your choice is Terry Smith, if it is the former we need to let go of the idea the next season and the season after and maybe even he season after that can be salvaged. Honestly at this point based on how this has played out I would have preferred to stay with Franklin, the devil we know. At some point he will have a breakthrough win and be off to the races thereafter as elite talent says yes this guy can get it done. It might not happen given how set in his ways BGJ is but it might.Diaz would be my second option. I think both Diaz and Smith give us a “floor” of performance we can live with due to the familiarity of the place and abilities to motivate players. Diaz can run the defense himself and just needs a strong OC. It would be interesting to see if he could get us into the playoffs by year 3 and win big in year 4. FWIW, And this is classic serendipity:I actually was on team Diaz early on and thought he was a solid option if our "plan A" types didn't work out. He's definitely someone I would have hoped Kraft would have spoken to during this entire process. I know he hasn't been the most successful head coach but he seems to be "growing into it" and definitely has an elite mind for defense.
IIRC his time at Miami as head coach was during the COVID era and I think that makes it hard to judge things as much since stuff was just weird.
I've always liked Campbell but like many of Kraft's other pursuits, he's unlikely to leave ISU. I believe many have pursued him over the years and he's always declined. But I'd definitely interview him and try. If Kraft was doing his job he interviewed Campbell weeks ago. He's been a very effective coach that does more with less for a long time, and could be quite good with better resources at his disposal.I'm going Campbell, can't believe we haven't contacted him. We can't take big swings and misses at this point, if he wants the job(or Diaz for that matter), it's time to go lock it up. Why would elite coordinators work for Smith?1. Hartline
2. Diaz
3. Terry with elite resources for coordinators and portal
4. NFL guy (Joe Brady) and make Terry the highest paid assistant HC to help bridge the gap
And in minor league football, yiu need a great X’s & O’s coach…Franklin is not even good."VT will always be VT and PSU will always be PSU"... Matt Campbell is not coming here. Nobody wants a job that is career suicide at this point. The damage cannot be repaired. Hire Terry and fire Kraft.
