JF can handle the interview this morning a bunch of different ways. I think he'll take the high road and be thankful to the university but you never know how people will respond in situations like this.

What do you think happens?

He has always been very aware of how he handles every situation and I have to believe that won’t change. He will thank Penn State and the fans for 12 great years and say he’s happy to be able to spend more time with his family for a while.

Or not…..

This is a free interview for every team out there; he will kill it, we will not hear anything resembling the truth come out of his mouth.

I think he’ll handle it professionally. That said, he’s basically defending his record to future employers tomorrow. It all depends on how espn handles it.

If they give him softball questions it will be slanted to an attack on PSU for daring to fire him. After years of ESPN ripping Franklin’s record, I half expect espn to flip the narrative and suddenly be shocked and outraged on him being fired. ESPN needs controversy for ratings. It’s what they live on.

If they push him on his record vs teams with a pulse, he’s going to feel the need to defend himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gave a subtle comment on how the administration interfered or somehow tied his hands. We’ll see how it goes.

He’ll be dropping f-bombs left and right.

really, he will be diplomatic because he knows his next employer is watching. James is a guy who can talk a lot and say nothing

First question from SleazeSPN:

"James, you inherited a football team decimated by the Sandusky scandal and returned it to prominence. Are you relieved to be moving on from an employer with no ethical standards?"

I don’t think he’ll be gracious towards PSU or the fanbase at all. Everyone knows he’s thin-skinned and is probably seething at the fanbase for his ouster.

he will be charismatic with the panel, say he thought he would’ve been given a chance to turn it around considering his overall record, but college football is a what have you done for me lately sport now.

no, he won’t be throwing bouquets at psu or psu fans.

He’ll sound fine to everybody except PSU fans that will be dissecting every word looking to beat him down further.

- proud of what they accomplished
- promoted integrity and family atmosphere
- more than just W/L, like the school had asked of him
- gets it that there were some tough losses against good teams
- put many high character guys into the league
- has had an outpouring of support among current and former players and coaches that speaks volumes

I wholly expect ESPN to play the ... Be careful PSU fans what you wish for you had a coach that won 9-10 games a year and took you to the semifinals last year...

Franklin just said he’s going to coach again and win a national championship. So Penn State’s bank account futures just got bigger.

Sounds like he wants to continue coaching. “It’s all I know .”
Big question - Will you change how you address big games in the future ? Vague answer.
Rece Davis- he will be the biggest name on the coaching carousel.
——Good coach and the firing drove up salaries . That $50 mill should shrink a lot when he gets hired .

You posting such nonsense is more embarrassing
lol. Poor little victim James. Only made $80 million dollars from Penn state

maybe if he’d have said “ I know how we got here … I boasted how great this team and this staff was but we played like complete dog **** all year” it wouldn’t be so pathetic

I think he interviewed very well. There will be a lot of demand for his services. I think Saban buried us.
Saban did no such thing. Are you telling me that Saban didn’t use Franklin’s big game failures against him over and over in recruiting?!

It’s the media. They’re all two-faced. Saban knows the drill in this business: get out while the getting is still good. Saban did that time and again. Franklin waited too long and things soured.

He handled the interview well and as expected. No real surprises. Of course he is going to coach again. We all expected that. I can see him in Florida next year.

I find it funny tho, that all we heard from the anti-PSU crowd was “I wish Franklin stays at Penn state forever”. Constant mocking of his choking in big games. Big Game James. Calling him arrogant. Now all of a sudden everyone wants to paint him as the victim and Penn State as the bad guy for not being appreciative and more willing to keep him for his past accomplishments.

I'm glad James is gone. But he always handled himself well and represented Penn state well over the years. I’m thankful for what he did for us, and thankful someone else can build upon that. But outsiders don’t understand and appreciate that this wasn’t just a 2025 season thing, it’s 12 years of struggling to put our foot in the throats of lowly opponents, slow starts, narrow wins, and struggles against Ohio State and other Top 10 teams.

James did himself some damage there too. He completely skirted the team issues that led to awful back-to-back losses. Any top program will see that interview as classic James…he’s polished in the media but not accountable behind the scenes.

100%. Sometimes it’s just time to move on for both parties. James’ contract was an albatross for both sides. Now he’s free to try to back up his rhetoric.
