Not shocked at all, he’s smart. He handled the interview well and as expected. No real surprises. Of course he is going to coach again. We all expected that. I can see him in Florida next year.
I find it funny tho, that all we heard from the anti-PSU crowd was “I wish Franklin stays at Penn state forever”. Constant mocking of his choking in big games. Big Game James. Calling him arrogant. Now all of a sudden everyone wants to paint him as the victim and Penn State as the bad guy for not being appreciative and more willing to keep him for his past accomplishments.
I'm glad James is gone. But he always handled himself well and represented Penn state well over the years. I’m thankful for what he did for us, and thankful someone else can build upon that. But outsiders don’t understand and appreciate that this wasn’t just a 2025 season thing, it’s 12 years of struggling to put our foot in the throats of lowly opponents, slow starts, narrow wins, and struggles against Ohio State and other Top 10 teams.
AgreedJames did himself some damage there too. He completely skirted the team issues that led to awful back-to-back losses. Any top program will see that interview as classic James…he’s polished in the media but not accountable behind the scenes.
Saban embarrassed us and portrayed the firing as very unfair based on Franklin’s accomplishments. It was a masterclass on pr for Franklin, who will land at an upper level program.Every second of it.
I like James too. All of us would much rather him have won a title here. Or at least have been consistently close.Agreed
btw I say those things as someone who genuinely likes Franklin. Wanted him to be the guy to win it here desperately
but that was embarrassing IMO
They're all haters, they dont want penn state to ever become elite, they all want us good enough to be a good win for their respective teams, but nothing more. Franklin played the role perfectly in the big ten. Now, kraft wants more and we are apparently stepping off the plantation as a university..we get moralized about not being satisfied. F*ck them all.He handled the interview well and as expected. No real surprises. Of course he is going to coach again. We all expected that. I can see him in Florida next year.

Perhaps. The upper level programs will look at the small details that weren’t addressed and have never been during his time at Penn State.Saban embarrassed us and portrayed the firing as very unfair based on Franklin’s accomplishments. I thought so too. The proof will be in three years- if PSU is firing the next coach- and Kraft.I think Saban buried us.
You posting such nonsense is more embarrassing
Says who? Figment of your imagination? Cite any.Perhaps. The upper level programs will look at the small details that weren’t addressed and have never been during his time at Penn State.
I understand why James and Sexton did this. They want a top job this coaching cycle. It’s TBD whether that happens. James has a poor reputation in top coaching circles.
That's unlikely, to say the least. Paranoia seems to be ingrained in our fanbase. If this were the coach at Michigan, Ohio State or Alabama, nobody would be commenting that it was unfair for the coach to be let go.
I am not sure what you mean. There are very few proven coaches out there. Our own list has shrunk to the point we may need to take a relatively unproven commodity. Franklin will likely land at an upper level school like Florida or at worst a solid program like Wiscy.Perhaps. You’re saying the Florida AD, fresh off a rotten run of hires, won’t scratch away at Franklin’s inability to beat teams with a pulse?Says who? Figment of your imagination? Cite any.
Franklin might crush it in his next job. Half of the recipe is often a fresh start.I am not sure what you mean. There are very few proven coaches out there. Curious, did you feel that way from 2000 through 2004?Spent too much money traveling and for tickets only to leave disappointed from his coaching!
Dreamer!Franklin just said he’s going to coach again and win a national championship. So Penn State’s bank account futures just got bigger.
A realistic list of potential coaches for us is as follows at this point: Campbell, Rhule, Diaz, Mullen, Sumrall, Golesh, Key, Stein, Brady. That list would largely be the same for Florida, except add Franklin obviously. Franklin likely grades out higher than any of those candidates for Florida. Franklin recruits very well, and he would recruit even better down south. He lost a lot of big games for us, but he was close in almost every single one. If he can slightly improve his efficacy using talent, he gives Florida a realistic opportunity to get back to elite status. I agreed with the firing, but I also believe it comes with a great deal of risk for us.Franklin might crush it in his next job. Half of the recipe is often a fresh start.
But there are some systematic questions behind 1-19 against B1G top ten teams. Even random luck would dictate a better winning percentage.
I think a program like Wiscy or MSU or even Ole Miss if that job were to open would love to get Frankin. The question is whether James sees himself as above those programs? Based on what we know, James loves him some James.
With dignity and aplomb.JF can handle the interview this morning a bunch of different ways. I think he'll take the high road and be thankful to the university but you never know how people will respond in situations like this.
What do you think happens?

Yet the networks kept the( Big Game James )for years and years ( not the PSU fans ) and now they're walkingSaban embarrassed us and portrayed the firing as very unfair based on Franklin’s accomplishments. It was a masterclass on pr for Franklin, who will land at an upper level program.
If it were Bama and Saban were AD, Saban would have fired James himself, probably years ago as Saban has very high standards. His comments ripping PSU today were bullsh*t and he knows it. The only reason he said that was to support a fellow coach, it's a small club and they look after each other. If this were the coach at Michigan, Ohio State or Alabama, nobody would be commenting that it was unfair for the coach to be let go.
You gotta stop. Saban didn't embarrass us. He's speaking as a coach that doesn't like coaches being fired. Any sane viewer comprehends that. They also showed his record and it was obvious why he was fired.Saban embarrassed us and portrayed the firing as very unfair based on Franklin’s accomplishments. That was merely a playful answer for TV entertainment. Saban isn't coming.Miss Terri had an interesting quote: “I haven’t heard a number yet.” That spoke volumes to me. We have reached out and are trying. Saban is done coaching and I don’t know why he would come here, but it sure seems we are trying.
I’m glad Franklin did well in the interview - hopefully he gets a big job and Penn State keeps its money. We deserve better and he deserves a fresh start.
