“I wouldn’t“ is a reasonable answer. o_O

I ask because of the following news today:

From the article:

”UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Rick Ayers, chief marketing officer and assistant dean for strategic communications in Penn State’s Smeal College of Business, has been named the University’s new associate vice president for marketing, effective Nov. 6.

Following a national search, Ayers succeeds Tracy Powell, who joined Drexel University as senior vice president of marketing and communications in October 2022.

Reporting directly to Rachel Pell, vice president for Strategic Communications, Ayers will lead an outstanding team of about 20 professionals whose work is focused on helping to advance Penn State’s mission, with a focus on enterprise-level brand strategy, enrollment marketing, content creation, creative design and web strategy. Ayers will lead and advance the team’s efforts, helping to bring Penn State’s brand to life and communicating its story to the world, with strategies that promote the University as a whole and amplify its unique strengths. He will work closely with Penn State’s Lead Communicator Council, composed of senior communications professionals from colleges, campuses and units University-wide.”

More blah-blah. By the way, I love how Penn State conducts a NATIONAL. SEARCH. o_O and almost always promotes from within.

So, how would you market Penn State? o_O

I'd focus on enterprise-level brand strategy, enrollment marketing, content creation, creative design and web strategy with an emphasis on creative design. If it looks good, they will come.

I'd like to see what Penn State's current official "mission" is purported to be. ($$$$)

Definitely stress the party aspect and hope rubes from NJ keep paying a ridiculous OOS tuition for a middling state school.

It would also be fun to portray the BOT as modern day robber barons but doubt that campaign will make it thru ole Rachel.
Already got that. No need to spend money on marketing.

The truth is Penn State is all over the board with their branding and marketing. Much like all of higher education. Like the football team, the university has no real identity which is vital in pursuing the next gen student. Hopefully, Rick will provide that because the previous Kabal couldn't or wouldn't. They were only interested in money, compliance, and liability.

After all, Neeli is supposed to be a top level marketer.

But that's the big question for anyone marketing a product. Who Are You, Penn State? I really want to know.... football used to know who they were "Black Shoes. Basic Blues. No Names. All Game."
