The Paul Sorvino thread broached this topic.....idc what anyone says, peak Stern was with Artie man. I loved Howard before and after Artie, but I feel that was the pinnacle

Howard did great being so rich for so long and keeping his working class edge. But it's caught up to him the last decade and it's just not the same. Still between than 75% of talk radio, but the king is dead. Rogan is king now.

I loved the E show era. I listened up until ETM passed away. There was no reason for me to after that. Im not surprised Howard turned out the way he did. If you think about it, he would have been canceled if he hadn't. Howard was actually one step ahead. Oh well, theres always youtube for old clips.

As I said in the other thread, I still enjoy the show. It's a lot different now, but he is almost 70 now, so of course it is. It's not so much hilarious for the most part anymore, but his long form interviews are about the best thing on the radio now, IHMO.

And I think the show was at it's funniest point when Billy West was on the show all the time. The Artie era was great, but those Billy clips are the funniest thing ever at least to me.

The era about 20 yrs when Howard was at his peak and Bubba the Love Sponge was still relevant and funny was great for comedy talk radio on Sirius.

I think the show has lost its edge. Jimmy Kimmel (boring interview) on way too often. Ronnie is intolerable. It’s still better than anything else on satellite radio. Bennington is terrible!

At one time Howard enjoyed being “one of us” and sticking it to the powers that be. Along the way, he got rich and desperately wanted to be accepted by those that despised him so much (celebrities, media, etc). He also got older and more bitter like many do. He is a pioneer and legend no matter what you think of him but his final act (last 5-10 years) have been forgetful at best.

I'm sure he was pretty wealthy in the 90's as well. Peak Stern needed an enemy. One of the times when the FCC fined the show for being crude, Oprah had an episode where she and another woman were talking about and describing sex acts. The FCC called that educational programming and she wasn't fined.

I'm sure he's not what he used to be, but what he used to be wasn't going to get him a serious longform interview with one of his heroes like Paul McCartney.

Early Sirius radio days were fantastic. Could do or say anything on that media. I haven’t listened for a few years but I got bored not long after Artie left. Needed that comedic relief on set.

He still has good guests and does great interviews but you can't be as edgy today as you were 20 years ago in any kind of entertainment. Bringing in a porn star, having her put a stick in her *** and playing Lord of the Anal Rings in 2022 would be career suicide.

I was watching videos of Elegant Elliott Offen and Stuttering John interviews on YouTube not long ago to reminisce. That was peak Stern. Captain Janks prank calls to news networks were gold too.

When stern wants to he can do a decent interview. He asks questions no one else would ask, usually because they are filth and way past inappropriate. But that’s his game and he does it well.

Certainly past his prime but he's an old man, you can only rock and roll for so long without looking kind of silly.

I roll my eyes at his show today but I would also roll them if he was still throwing bologna at girl's butts and having people eat cake out of Fred's *** for tickets to a whack pack boxing match.

Father time is undefeated.
