Guys, we had a plan and as a parent of players on the team I know after talking with my son HS needed to work through adversities. As a team they needed to work through those turnoversame so mentally they could move onto their next game. Saying that their 2 forth quarter score are cheap is like saying GW didn't win if HS didn't have four turnovers they would've lost. Truth those kids game out and for over proved to themselves they could play with anyone. GW won a my hats to them but those hornets will take a lot from this game. And for our JV what was the benefits of putting those guys through a fight on a short week that would probably have a lot of those players hurt. GW JV would probably start for HS. So on to DGS this chapter for the Hornets is closed. South

Cheers Prouddad. You have a great ball club. You guys will run the table on WSG and go deep in the playoffs. I hope we are both in Dekalb for Thanksgiving. .

I think you should be proud of your son. And i hope those kids can bounce back next week. They showed they can play with anyone in the state. And as a long-time GW fan, I'm really happy we dont have to play you again this season. .The comment about the 2 4th qtr TD 's wasn't meant to offend...just can't understand why the coach would risk injury at a time he's playing the reserves.

A ton of respect for the HS players. Those guys can deal but you can see what happens in the 2nd half at Duchon. Field, heat and having to play your studs both ways really wears everyone down. If it was 45 degrees out there, the score might not have been the same. HS will go a long way in States. They have a great set of players.

West emptied the bench early in the 4th quarter so much so they had to call off the JV game. Of course the HS JV kids din't get to play because HS coach decided to keep 1st unit on the field until the last play. So really, the score was 43-17 before scrub time. Shame those JV guys from HS won't see the field this week.

Good luck Hornets.

Final thoughts ...

Indeed the combination of lack of depth at a number of key positions (particularly playing both ways) and the heat played a significant role in the outcome of the game. However, from my perspective I kinda feel like HS let one get away and despite the situation still had a shot at pulling this one out, except for 2 key plays which provided huge momentum swings to GBW:
  • The fake put by GBW to convert a 4 and long into a 1st down from maybe their own 35-40 yard line. Gutsy call by GBW coaches, for if HS stops this they have a short field and a good chance to score and could easily go into half up 20 -7 or 24 -7. Worst case, HS up 17 - 7. As it was, GBW converted with Brodner just refusing to be stop on this drive. We are now HS up 17 -14 at half instead
  • After forcing a GBW punt, HS drove the ball down to GBW 1 yard line. If HS converts this could push score to 24 -14 (or more if things would have went our way on the fake punt) with momentum. Instead, on 1st and goal, HS fumbled and GBW recovered. GBW then proceeded to drive 99 yards for a TD for their 1st lead of the game at 21 - 17. At this point another huge momentum swing to GBW from which HS would not recover. With HS south feeling the momentum swing and the crowd going crazy, proceeded to throw 3 successive interception inside their own side of the field (pick six and 2 TDs on short field drives) and never recovered GBW up 42 - 17.
Even if the above had played out to HS favor, I am 100% sure GBW would have made a tremendous push down the stretch with the lack of depth and heat working against HS. HS would have likely had to hang on for dear life to win, but would have had a shot.

I know this sounds like a lot of what-if-ing, but not all that far fetched. Just 2 plays.

With that said, I was extremely impressed with GBW (coaches, players, fans). This was certainly an enjoyable game and fun to be a part of. GBW is a class act all the way around. With HS clearly taking it to them for most of 3 quarters, they never flinched. Never wavered from what they do. They kept pressing and grinding on HS no matter what, and prevailed in the end. They were simply the better team.

Good luck Hitters with the remainder of your season.

We get a chance to see next year when the game will be a Friday night in Darien.

Best of luck guys. Really enjoyed watching that offensive scheme.

Love your OC. He called a great game
