He may be a classic, tons-of-up-side but not completely committed or is burned out. I haven’t seen those prospects pan out a lot of times. I hope he does. Maybe it’s a maturity thing and he decides he is all in. I can only hope.
My guess is maturity, time will tell. I’ve coached football and wrestling seen kids like him with exceptional talent , keep him in the room be positive see what happens.

Thompson beat Mirasola 5 to 0. We have 4 in the final challenge Sprately, Hughes and Thompson and Carroll got to sit because he was an automatic finalist. Good performances so far with our new freshmen and our redshirt freshman transfer.
I hate to type this with Blair hanging around but this was a bad 6 minutes for us with Hughes getting teched in fast fashion by Bouzakis and Sprately getting beat by Lilledahl soundly. Sprately wrestled poorly and tried to muscle the high schooler out of bounds which worked a few times but got taken down several times and then thrown for 4 at the end. Hard to see much positive in those 2 matches.

Bad finals so far with Thompson losing 6 to 2 to Berge of SDSU. Thompson was ahead on criteria 2 to 2 and seemed lose focus and gets double legged to his back. These are 2 out of 3 matches and so I hope our guys do better in the next matches.

Sprately lost 4 to 1 to Lilledahl who will be a senior in high school this next year. Also he is committed to Penn. St. Lilledahl seemed to gain a lot of confidence after the first win. Sprately had to wrestle 3 matches before this series. The wrestle off between Sprately and Witcraft should be interesting.

Thompson wrestled unbelievably horrible and got teched in a minute and 1/2. Lost 2 double legs for 4 each and then basically quit and gave up a takedown and lost the tech. I will say this after the first 3 2nd matches our coaches did a very poor job of helping our wrestlers do better in their 2nd matches.

Cael Hughes got wrecked again by Bouzakis teched in 1 and 1/2 minutes.
Not surprised , you might let Hughes have some time in college room before you give up on him same goes for Thompson. Spratley looked good all day, challenge tournament was tough, definitely is an advantage to sit out. Like to see that match when spratley was fresh. Blair’s right relax a little . 4 in the finals great day.

I have not given up on Hughes or Thompson they are our hope for the future. Bouzakis is older and a super recruit last year but he did wreck Cael. That does not mean Cael won't be a National Champ during his career. Thompson lost to an older opponent, but he did wrestle terrible this last match. This does not mean Thompson might be a National Champ before his career is over. Also big news Carroll won by tech fall in 16 seconds at HWT. A takedown and 4 leg lases. Blair is not right he just defended the Pokes without probably ever even watching the match that I was commenting on. You at least were not attacking but here is my concern being in our room has not been a good thing for the majority of our top recruits in the last 4 years.

As mentioned in the previous post Christian Carroll wins by tech fall in 16 seconds. He is a World Team Member! But with 4 finalists I was hoping for more but the 3 who lost had 3 matches before the 2 out of 3 Championship matches

Last 2 years definitely, bad judgment on who was recruited, but that’s on the coaching staff. Now Iowa has to deal with that. Great talent in the room now, let’s see what happens. Do think everyone wrestled good today. After seeing spratley for the first time was impressed, with a little improvement mid AA possible, but you’re right have to develop.

You all just do not know how to lose. These kids get beat in a tournament and you all are ready to give up on them. Don't be so disappointed in yourselves that you didn't place in your conferences to make states!!!!!!!

It’s so funny, right? There’s a real “championship or we are extremely disappointed in you” vibe here sometimes. 2nd place is pretty dang commendable. Maybe they’re Iowa fans in disguise! 😆

Mower was eliminated in the consolation round equivalent to the final 16 in a bracket of 91. He is young enough to have entered U20 but wrestled up in U23. He continues to exceed (admittedly low) expectations.

Plott into the finals with a 12-2 TF at about 1:30
Plott in the finals was getting smoked by Kharshla 9 to 0 and was getting gut wrenched over and over and fought off the last one. The match went on Plott got the next takedown and went way up on score with a bunch of leg laces which he could have done for an hour but he got a tech but was challenged and the match went on and Plott got an exposure off of his opponents shot and won by tech. Great comeback!

Kharchla was in some pain, Dustin had that lace tight! What a comeback. He definitely needs to get the first td and avoid the gut wrench.
