If nobody on here has said anything in the lead up I’m assuming it ain’t OSU

I’m not sure we’re recruiting anyone this year. Info is locked down tighter than Ft. Knox 😂. This is a tough year in that most of the higher big board guys are at the lower weights, which we’re stacked at for the next year or so. There’s a track record of guys switching commitments so who knows but of the uncommitted guys at weights we could use, I’m eyeing Dhabolt, Konopka and Hodgins.

U are definitely recruiting Dhabolt he was in town for the dual . Konopka is definitely being recruited as well. Hodgins is the one I'm not sure about but I imagine they're talking with him. But with Merrill and Waters I don't see that happening.

I came across a Posse magazine that included a spread with some fan reactions from our opener last year against Wyoming I think. This was prior to getting deep into the weeds of wrestling and recruiting so I didn’t know who was who at the time but now in the background of the shot, you see Melvin, Bo, Jax, Keegan, mom and dad Bassett.

Was trying to creep on the area behind the bench to see who I could see this year but couldn’t make anyone out. Glad to hear Max was there. I’m at least aware Hodgins is on the radar but suppose it would be coaching malpractice to not have at least some communication with all of top guys bc you just never know. Will now go back to sniffing around the crumbs of dual photos to see if I notice anyone else… unless you want to just confirm them all to me😉

Iowa with maybe one of the biggest recruiting nights I’ve seen. 5 guys in 1 night!
Definitely a good night. Amato, Youngblut, Borge, Kenny, Bachmann and Duffy for 2027 is a good class and I don't think they're done.
And Bachmann and Kenny for 2028 I would be shocked if Peter Mocco doesn't end up at Iowa

As Bassett would say, “Family First”

Dhabolt is only 16 and will be the #1 recruit in his weight class. Really no room for him at Iowa unless he can hold down 74. I think he’s a 84 pounder and ends up at Okie State.

Either way, Iowa needed this haul to stay relevant after Okie State’s pull last year.

Let the flood gates up open for Sammy Sanchez in the 28 class because he’s the “cant miss” recruit.

...realizing situations change, I will try to closely repeat what Jax said to me just before a wrestling meeting October 4th. Being early to the event, I visited with him in the lobby. He said he was going home and helping his brother wrestle this year. In addition to him I visited with the Raneys. All three were polite and quite interesting in the brief conversations. Plus they all knew how to shake hands and not say "like", "you know" or other worrying expressions of the much younger. Between wrestling and conversations, they are most commendable in accomplish.........best to all.............rs

HS and JUCO kids must now disclose all HS/JUCO NIL $ they have received to the NIL GO clearinghouse within 2 weeks of enrolling at a University. This is gonna get real interesting. I expect some to be ruled ineligible if they can't pay the $ back that doesn't pass the clearinghouse. It must be real NIL with advertising and return on investment not just a check from a collective or donor

What was all that people were saying about DT's coming here was the death knell for TNT?
Iowa isn’t going anywhere unless Bobby gets sick.

It is proving to be that our staff develops guys really well and we can recruit very well. So, is it going to be hard for them to accomplish runner-up performances? Well, they haven’t outdone PSU in awhile, so it’ll still be tough!

NIL isn't a factor anymore you can't just cut checks . Rev share is the new NIL. And now with HS kids needing to disclose high school NIL to the clearinghouse it's even less of a factor in recruiting. That was announced on Oct 25 by the sports commission that is in charge of NIL go clearinghouse

In all seriousness where else other than maybe Nebraska were those guys gonna land? We didnt even try to get them and neither did Cael from what I hear. I know a couple of them were upset that we WEREN'T recruiting them. HS studs WANT to wrestle for DT!

Think about this: in the last 5-7 years how many times has OSU cleaned up in recruiting because PSU didnt need anyone? Thats just reality and this time it was Iowa's turn. And Iowa hate aside, we all know NCAA wrestling is stronger when Iowa is in the mix.

Also, some of these guys are 27's and 28's so we have time to assess and see how our recruits are turning out. If necessary Coach Taylor can and absolutely will flip some guys if he needs to.

Apologies in advance to any Iowa guys on here. Eh, not really ;)

I understand the rules and I understand they seem to be tinkered with frequently.

But, I said nothing about NIL. I said “Iowa ain’t going anywhere unless Bobby gets sick.”

Meaning, they will, for the foreseeable future be able to afford the perks of top end funding. Travel, amenities, donations, progressive ideas, etc.! There are lots of ways money can help without paying kids bags of cash.

And without Chad you guys would be where? You wouldn't have DT remember the university only pays like 20% of his salary. You guys are paying big HS NIL $ that's now gonna be subject to the clearinghouse.
Iowa will have an advantage with rev share that $ doesn't have to go thru the clearinghouse

I’m not sure why you are being defensive?

It takes money, and lots of it to make a Program. It would be hypocritical of me to bad mouth Bob Nichols. I spend more than I should and if I had Bob or Ira’s money, I’d spend very freely.

Wrestling needs money, eyeballs and participation. I’m not going to poor mouth anybody for helping accomplish that.

Someone doesnt understand that those guys WANTED to be recruited by and would have loved to have wrestled for DT regardless. The Raneys are a prime example. They took wrestling for DT over $$$.
How much did Iowa offer them?
How much did Oklahoma st give them?
You don't know the answer to either but will act like you do thats the issue with wrestling everyone posts an opinion but believe it to be a fact.

We don’t have a Bob or Ira. We have a handful of big hitters for sure, but I don’t know if we have a guy like Bob as far as spending volume?

Chad Richison is not our Bob and doesn’t offer a blank check book.

Chase he's a billionaire and has more money then Bob and Ira put together. This narrative is hilarious. You guys have seen how Penn st and Iowa have been talked about for having a $ guy so you guys say we don't have a $ guy. You guys want to act like nothing happening in Stillwater is $ related.

Relax dude. It’s a discussion, not a fight.

I know his financial status. I am just telling you that we don’t have an open checkbook with him. Is he helping, yes! Is he stroking checks at any/every request, no!

I also said we have some heavy hitters that give well. It is my opinion, not necessarily fact, that Bob probably doles out more money than Richison and our other big guns.

Combine our full donor bucket, I’d say we are healthy financially, but not to a point that we can relax raising funds.

I also don’t know the extent of what Nichols gives and how he gives, just things I’ve heard point to the narrative that he will give anything TnT ask being true. It may not be?

Can you please point me to the post where someone said we don't have a $ guy? I honestly don't remember a poster on here acting like we don't pay healthy NIL money to kids but maybe I missed it.

Maybe it’s propaganda or maybe it’s the truth. The “narrative” that Chad doesn’t pay NIL has been consistent amongst our insiders to the degree that I believe the spirit of the sentiment. Is he an absolute non-contributor or simply not an open checkbook kind of guy? No clue personally but it does fit his MO, which is he wants to grow the sport of wrestling in-state and isn’t tied to OSU outside of wanting his investment to produce dividends. TBH, DT doesn’t strike me as a coach that would want a singular benefactor simply due to not wanting the BS of feeling beholden to him.

Again, there’s enough consistency to the stories surrounding the Raney’s that I believe them. We didn’t offer them $0 but money wasn’t the reason they called DT wanting to commit.

I’m sure we play the NiL game as aggressively as we need to in order to not be an outlier amongst the big players. I am confident we are not winning in recruiting bc we are obscene on the NiL front.

Where does RTC money (if there is any) come into some of this? I assume RTCs and their resident athlete programs are another form of compensation for these guys?

There’s a lot to that actually and Corby is more familiar with the governing of RTC Athletes pay rules.

Im also not sure how that overlaps with NCAA rules.
