Nah...forget football.

Let's go all in on the baseball program. In NJ. In a totally irrelevant baseball league...in a state that produces about 8 D1 baseball players a year..IN TOTAL. All of which head south faster than a flock of migratory birds

I wonder if Alabama has a rivals site i can latch on to

the only thing is..... he's gonna leave on his own terms... when he wants to go... and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it.
Well I hope it's real soon. So far as I can tell, Barchi and the BOG are the problem. Not much we can do about the BOG w/out a president that understands and can convey to the BOG just how much a highly successful football program can do for the university.

My senior year in high school, NJ had three first round draft picks.

Yeah, and you batted without a helmet, LBJ was President and uniforms were wool.

hahahahahah

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for longterm baseball success at RU.

RU and NJ are what they are in baseball circles. Some nice teams every once in a while. A handful of professional quality players. Certainly nothing that justifies the idea that we should focus on baseball.

You go down the FSU, Miami, NC, LSU or out west to the Pac 12 and there are more draft picks on the bench than RU will have in 5 years.

Good. Now we just have to hope that we hire an athletics-minded president to replace him.

I wouldn't write that date in pen.

Scuttlebutt around the ole Ivory Tower is the BOG has offered to extend him to 2020 and he is inclined to take it.

Outside of the steaming hot mess of athletics, he's been like Jesus Shuttlesworth around here...nothing but net

With Greg Brown there, I'm confident we will.

Greg Browns influence is vastly overrated among many on this board.

Yes he donated a few million for the recruiting lounge years ago and is a big fan but what else has he done to garner such a following on this board?

As long as Barchi is still around he will have final say.

This was posted in the WBB board:
>I think the main motivation for the "cease and desist" request from RU was that the fund could have deceived donors into thinking that the money was actually going to the Rutgers Foundation.<

Seems like the there is confusion about the money that was put into the fund before Rutgers
asked for go fund to take it down.
Some don't understand that every penny collected would go into the Rutgers University Foundation, whether the $1.5 million goal was reached or not

It was the work of those terrified of the PR nightmare that would happen if it actually took off

Cowardly on behalf of RU

You do realize that Greg Brown is chairman of the Board of Governors and heads the BOG committee on athletics. Barchi answers to him.

My point is that for a powerful agent to take an interest in a coach, there has to be something other than a paltry commission (which Floods deal pretty much was) - there has to be upside and the prospect of a larger commission down the road.

But there are a ton of plausible reasons that Sexton may have agreed to represent Flood other than him believing that Flood had upside potential:

  • Maybe he just thought it would be an easy $75K.
  • Maybe he thought it would be a challenge and fun.
  • Maybe he thought it would be a good reference for other clients -- he could say "I got Flood an extension; imagine what I can do for you."
  • Maybe he thought that Rutgers has a lot of upside potential and wanted to start to get to know the players before he got involved in tougher negotiations for one of his higher paid clients.

Yes, pursuant to the laws organizing the state university, which is similar to the sort of corporate bylaws that we typically see.

In reality, however, Barchi holds far more influence. A chief executive officer, in this case president barchi, is considered the talent. He was recruited, sought after, because of his unique talents, experience and abilities. The BoG members are there as a favor because they - or their benefactor- helped some slimy trenton crook get elected at some point. The position did not seek them. They sought out the position. Any schmo with a checkbook can be on the BoG and they typically rubber stamp whatever the officers recommend, unless they are commanded otherwise by their political masters.

So barchi has plenty of power, and he chooses to abstain from any meaningful athletic involvement. He's more than happy to let all the investment that was made over the past 15 years to die on the vine.

Is it 100% certain that gofundme will be shutting down the site and refunding money or is that assumed because Rutgers has asked?
In my opinion people should still be encouraged to donate up until it's been shut down. A solid 12 hours has passed and technically the site is still up.

I'm well aware. I would be as rich as him if I got a nickel for every time his name is mentioned on this board.

When it comes to Rutgers Football I don't think he's had anywhere near as much of an influence as people give him credit for. Maybe that will change with the Flood situation but that remains to be seen.

Also lets be real - Barchi may technically answer to Greg Brown but we all know the reality of the situation. He doesn't.

Btw, this is what gofundme (the company running the website):

So to be clear, Rutgers is turning down money that has no strings attached.

Exactly. That is what needs to be emphasized to the media.

On another note, this is another test for RU. Are they going to listen to Flood's agent and/or lawyer and respond with the full might of the General Counsel's and Enterprise Risk Management offices and alienate alumni, or will they finally embrace alumni and fans and bring them into the fold.

the media has already moved on. Rutgers succeeded in stopping this campaign. And i Agree, I dont think they realized that this was legitimate.

Well, the site is still taking donations. Up to $8,431 now.
i'm not sure what is happening but it definitely stopped the flow. We were beginning to pick up steam. Who knows where we would have been had we gotten the media coverage without them insinuating that this was fake.

Moved on? 101.5 & Fios Channel 1 have been running the story on their news all morning.

Twitter may have moved on, but the viral part is just starting. About $700 raised since it was officially "shut down"

You've been very quiet during this latest round of stirring the cesspool here on the RU FB board. I thought maybe you were off on vacation surfing or something.

I wish. Quite the opposite. About to launch my new biz.
