Commenting on the ESL long snapper, "I'm not one to get on high school players but he's not very good."

Rough crowd... Hub seems ok to me. MUCH better than the kids doing the regular season games, and better than most finals I remember. But I'm multi-tasking and not paying attention as much as usual.

For me he just doesn't understand the high school game. he's questioning loyola running a bubble screen. saying he can't believe someone just doesn't pick it off. if you watch any kind of high school or college spread teams you know how often this play is ran. he said doesn't understand why you just don't run a pitch.

Not so rough. The guy has little or no idea about high school rules. Commented that the refs "blew the whistle early" on an encroachment foul cuz he didn't know it was a dead ball penalty. Questioned several touchback calls until the middle of the 8A game when one of the producers finally told him it was automatically called when a kick breaks the goal line plane.
Very unprofessional to not even crack a rule book. Hope he was doing this for free. He pretty much was ignorant of the HS rule book.

I thought his comment at the end of Loyola-Maine South about going for it instead of kicking the field goal was one of the stupidest things I ever heard

State finals are typically a Mickey Mouse broadcast.
They will have a knowledgeable person there from time to time (like Edgy), but overall it's usually pretty bad. With that said, I've somewhat come to expect this level of ineptitude, and I didn't notice anything particularly remarkable about this year's broadcast.

Wait, I take that back. The lady calling the 4A runner up Johnsonburg over and over was particularly bad. You gotta at least get the team name correct.

I get that this stage is where a lot of newbies get their start (ie Sarah Kustock), but they are PAID professionals. Shouldn't they have enough pride in their chosen profession to at least crack a rule book instead of looking like a dolts.

Then there's McInerny. Not nearly as bad as Hub, but still tends to be from the "back when I coached" school of broadcasting.

Joe Buck sucks!

That seems to be a matter of opinion. I don't like the guy, but that's because I don't like his Bob Costas-like editorializing on everything he doesn't like. That said, Joe Buck would've been up late studying all of the rules differences between HS and Pro before he started calling the play-by-play. If nothing else, he and his staff do very good preparation.

not a big hub fan (he thinks he is more knowledgeable than he really is) but to kind of at least credit him for questioning some calls(refs), when questioned the perceived fumble and catch that truly inbounds. some calls(coaches) was good. when he questioned the call for the bubble screen when the db was rolled up tight. it was better than saying the ram qb made the absolute wrong read.( hence bad call from coach). or why this coach is not using his weapon(marwabe(sp) vs ms coach was using his best weapon consistently. I liked it overall.

the best by far were bowen & rodewall(sp). you have to get excited on some plays.
having two mono-toned voices is very distracting.

the worst the two chicks they had this year. the blonde was just awful in respect to asking questions(knowing subject matter). she asked like the same question over and over.
sierra(sp) was worse than during her sox broadcast year.
these two talked way to slow for comprehension.

ya I get it. at least get people that can speak.
the two ladies talked like they literally had marbles in their mouths.
No one seems to care about getting the most qualified people to do some of the work we saw over the week end. The announcers and especially Edgy, I really have no problem with, but the others? YIKES!!

All.... Excuse me for interrupting. I've been known on occasion to "steal" or borrow a phrase or word from others. I was drinking a Coke while reading this subject thread and when I came across "tweezerpud" well I'm still smarting from the soda that shot out of my nose. Hope it's ok and normally I don't as a rule throw out little dittys like that but I'm going to ask for permission in borrowing that. I assure you that I will only use it if absolutely necessary. Ratsy

Every year I watch more and more of televised sporting events WITH THE SOUND OFF at the pro, college and HS levels. I think Kirk Herbstreit is one of the absolute worst. He just fills air time with sound, often having no basis for his non-stop pontificating.

Jack McInerny used the term "physical conditioning attitudes" during the first game. Never heard of that before.

Also how come Captain Jack McInerny didn't know the rules at the end of the Fenwick v. Plainfield North playoff game?

Didn't hear much about his golf game this year.

At least Jack coached at one time. I get tired of simpering pencil-necks like Costas and Joe Buck spewing their "expert" diatribes they think we give a damn about.

Hahaha!! Personally I like Joe Buck. But let's face it, Troy Aikman makes the broadcast work.

I, however, cannot stand Bob Costas and I have never liked him.

Joe Buck is a square but at least not as lost/behind the times as Chip Caray. Tirico and Collinsworth were not horrible as a crew this Sunday, hopefully fleeting exposure to Al Michaels in this transition period can wipe some of the ESPN flava off.

Tirico has grown on me a little bit. I didn't like him at first and at this point I can at least watch. Hopefully it continues to get better. I've always liked Michaels, but I agree he is on his way out. Collinsworth is Collinsworth. Most people I know really like him or really hate him. I haven't seen much middle ground with the people I know.

Matt Bowen was the best championship weekend. I think it would have been a conflict of interest to have him working the weekend.
