Pump the brakes! Let the kid play a game first.
Hard to find because all of the highlight mixtapes are usually easily made plays. If you go on YouTube and search “Matthew Hurt team USA” you will find clips from games against Canada, Dom Rep, Argentina, etc. that are about a minute and a half - the defense looks pretty decent.i have not been able to find one video of Matthew Hurt where any defense is being played. Has anyone seen any tape of a real game with real defenders?
Hurt has a high and quick release, you must be thinking of someone else buddy. I’m excited for some pick n’ pop action though, judging by his highlights he really excels in that style. He has a really nice shot. Kind of slow but I think he will be able to get it off. I read somewhere he's pretty much money everytime when his feet is set and he has a little room. I think we will see something we rarely see at Duke with this one...PICK AND POP

He has a nice quick release, but it does take a min to get to that point. They will coach being "shot ready" with him next year and that will improve. Grayson did it about as good as anyone by his senior year. He was ready to shoot wherever the pass hit him (as long as it was a good pass). Defenders recovery times will obviously be quicker at the next level. Once he gets the ball to his face in his shooting motion his release looks good to me.
I had several impressions watching that video.
1. The competition was not exactly elite. (Cue Zion jokes)
2. We could have really used his shooting this year.
3. I hope he stays a few years. His body does not seem NBA ready. He seems like a guy who in the past would be a 4 year guy like Kelly, but in this climate he's prob. one and done. Could be good his first year and dominant his second.
4. I'd be interested to see how he would do matched up against Jack White, who is much stronger. Would he have his way with White, or would he struggle? He does not seem to relish playing inside.
He is a great player don't get me wrong. Just wondering if he is capable of being a key piece right away, or be more like Kelly and need time. My guess is he averages around 14ppg, and will be subbed by Jack for 10-15 minutes a game for rebounding and defense.
Maybe he’s just taking his precious time. I’m going by this video. Never really paid attention to him because I don’t follow recruiting like most of you. Unless it’s some super player everyone talk about.
The shots he took in that video were wide open so naturally he pauses on the catch before pulling up, that’s a focus mechanism all players do if they’re wide open. Nothing about his release is slow, it’s a quick flick of the wrist and it looks mechanically sound + smooth, IMO.
Problem #12 is he’s garnering this info from one video. You actually can learn a lot about how a player moves and such from these reels but “he has a slow release based off one video” is too funny to me haha.
I’m glad you took this one.

You just said that you’ve never paid attention to him. Now you’re trying to convince us of your personal scouting report correctness because you watched a 2 minute YouTube video showcasing his wide-open J against inferior players. He better be JJ Redick how y’all talk about him though. And it doesn’t take much to watch someone once and tell some characteristics. I can watch a defensive back practice one day and tell you the type of player he is and what he will struggle with. You don’t have to dig deep in evaluating players talents. The ball may leave his hands quick but doubt his shot preparation is that much faster. Plus speeding it up may make his efficiency drop a lot. I guess the article I read was right though. He’s money when he has time.

To busy, spreading your positive message to the disenfranchised, in turn, making the world a better place?

Scouting a player isn’t rocket science but you have to dig deeper than 2 minutes on YouTube.
Does your rotator cuff hurt from all that self back-patting? Hahah. I think it’s in everyone’s best interest of the guy can hit threes. I’ll leave it at that.
Y’all need to stop disrespecting our next Duke coach. To busy, spreading your positive message to the disenfranchised, in turn, making the world a better place?
You don’t think a wide open 3pt shooter should take an extra second to lock-in on the basket and back up your theory by comparing a stretch 4 to an athletic finisher. Great scouting report.Zion played against inferior competition in high school and he didn’t take it easy. He played the same way all the time. But hopefully he’s a great player. It'll make whatever game I go to this year much more enjoyable. I rather not watch his highlights. I prefer him to be unrecognizable once he gets to college. That means progression

You win. I’m going to exit this conversation before it gets worse.
You’re the one who opened this can of worms by responding to me with your YouTube 2 minute scouting report. — Idk how it’s “dumb” to predict a senior captain in the starting line-up over a freshman. It’s a rare occasion when you manage to make sense. You shouldn’t have even commented if you think it was dumb. I didn’t comment when you posted that dumb starting lineup where Moore wasn’t even starting. So clearly your scouting isn’t too good either. We both suck at basketball scouting. Oh well
Actually I’m really good at motivational speeches and mentoring kids. When they learn their history they understand why things are the way they are. We did a plantation tour and things really opened their eyes. Another thing we try to do is encourage them to find a trade because when you have a skill you can feed your family forever. That degree can fail you but that trade will never fail you. So yes I am assisting in trying to make the world a better place. America has broken down my young black brothers enough so we are working hard to build them up. I get hype just thinking about it.
Here we go... If you were a true motivator, you’d know how to do this successfully without the crutch.
Ps - you can’t motivate anyone, just yourself with your self-hypeness.
