I think a lot of coaches freaked out when the Wisconsin kid bagged out for Miami outside of the portal window. I'm sure coaches started looking at some of their rotational players as kids that might not just be there on some Monday during summer workouts. Rhule referred to it as unlimited free agency. My thought is that a player that can be poached after neglecting to portal in winter plus going through winter and spring work is perhaps a player that I don't want on my roster. There is a problem with that kid.
Also, some of the same folks bitching about not having a spring game would be bitching if a spring game was played and a player who is a lock to start (say RVP) blew his knee out. Why did we waste that player for a meaningless scrimmage? might echo the halls of this message board. So Rhule is somewhat damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
In my opinion it would have been nice watching the majority of the players that aren’t the potential starters competing in game type environment.

We don’t need to see the Raiola, Key, Johnson,Evan’s, Barney,Van Poppel, Jeudy McGahee, Wright’s type players.

This way we get a spring game instead of watching roping, tracker pull etc etc.

I think we have seen the comparison of the two.

1. Normal spring game brings in over 50,000 fans
2. The "Husker Games" brings in like 4, 000 fans.

I haven't been to a spring game in over 20 years, but when I did go that's what I went for... to see the future players. And we got to see a lot of them in the spring before they disappeared into the depth chart and their number was called.

I've taken pride in how the spring game grew into the 60,000+ events they became, although I never cared to sit shoulder to shoulder in a crowded spring game myself. I liked the days when I started with a red beer at Barry's and I could then stretch out over several seats at Memorial Stadium and enjoy some football.

I can honestly say I have only missed to Spring games since 1968, once because I had strip throat and last Saturday..

Past games before Callahan and Pelini you would have less than 50,000 but like you said you could seat about anywhere you want and stretch your legs out and watch the younger players get a chance to move up on the depth chart.
