Jay Borschel doesn't like these shirts. In fact, after reading his tweets I'm not sure if Jay Borschel likes much of anything.

Jay Borschel kind of sounds like a miserable turd. (Fwiw - I'm not 100% sold that this is even Jay Borschel)

He was one of my favorites from 2009 I believe. Maybe 2010.

Edit: I didn't know he was no longer a hawk fan. That is disappointing. This board is getting bad like rivals.
I don’t want to make this thread about Jay (I know I am the one who made the joke to bring him up so my bad). I don’t know him, but I think he probably still loves Iowa. That’s probably why he is frustrated with the state of things. If he didn’t like Iowa he wouldn’t care about the losses and perception.

Like many of us fans who grew frustrated this past season, we were frustrated because we care and we want to see them on top.

Anyways, I like the shirts. They are fun. Not everyone has to like them and that’s ok.

Flowrestling also commented on the shirt. They pointed out that Iowa is not really relevant in the team race so it doesn't make sense like it did in the 80s and 90s. While their point is true, Iowa still remains a hated team...especially on social media. Hell, many of our fans had them as dead on not medaling. Nobody cares if Virginia Tech, Iowa State or Ohio State underperforms. But man were they waiting for Iowa and Brands to fall on their face. So yea, a throwback "circle the wagons" morale t-shirt was made for the guys...big whoop.

Exactly Iowa still moves the wrestling needle . And the fact that Flo is talking about the shirts proves it 🤷

Im definitely getting a few of these T-shirts.
There are a few former standout wrestlers from other schools posting that they wanted one of these.

I say embrace the Hate, we earned it. One thing about wrestling that does not get talked about is, you get to be a bully/alpha dog and be embraced for it by fans . There will always be hate for people at the top, sometimes its lonely up there. Iowa earned the hate. Has anyone noticed there is a lot of hate going on towards PSU nowadays, same.

One other thing is to point out is Shaking of hands. The athletes while on the mat shake hands before the match and after, the teams shake hands before a meet and after, there is no reason for anymore unless the athlete chooses to. some do and some dont its not a requirement! This is a very competitive sport, you do not have to love your opponent it's not required!

My only question is why is Iowa hated? It isn't for winning to much anymore. I would say if we were winning every year then you embrace the hate. I just don't see why the team thinks people hate them. Most people in Cleveland were impressed that they wrestled better than expectations. I like Mikey and I am glad he didn't shake hands as well.

Maybe the shirts directed at 65% of this board or however many voted it’s time to move on from the Brands? J/k we’re still definitely disliked. Just off the top of my head negative talking points from fan bases and media-amount of loses for Ayala, Williams being lazy/giving up in matches, Ferrari dropping to his knees, Mo situation, BK being ruined and not what he use to be. On top of that you’ll have some schools like ISU, Minn, Neb that will just always hate us. We’re def not hated like we once were; the crowd use to erupt at nationals when an Iowa guy lost and it’s just not as loud anymore. With all that said we’re still hated so might as well embrace it; there’s a lot worse things to be hated for.

I agree. Old school motivational tactics long passed, because Iowa used to be hated for winning, now just hated. Athletes don't want hate, just the love. Peace out.

The hate was from the way Iowa won. In your face, mentally and physically breaking their opponents.
Physically beat people up and made them not want to be on the mat.
Even when they might not have been as "skilled" as their opponent they found a way to win.
Fans of other teams hated the way Iowa would break their opponent and not let up.
Gable without a doubt is the greatest coach of all time.

If you’re upset by a t-shirt message stay away from public gatherings. I’ve seen more than a few purposefully offensive and/or profane t-shirts.

Frankly, if you’re getting bent out of shape then that says as much about you as it does the messenger. In America, speech is constitutionally protected and, especially if there is money to be made, thriving.

You dont understand, we are still the badasses on the block, we are armed and dangerousand everyone knows it. We have the best fan base which would kick the crap out of any other fan base , although some of the washwomen arohere constantly critiquing everyone’s penmanship makes me wonder sometimes.
We are mean we are nasty and we keep coming, that has not changed for the most part. Now I know some will say, not all of our guys wrestle/act this way and thats true, but they still understand the IOWA way is to constantly keep the pressure on until they break and hopefully that never changes.
The gable way will never die! It will continue to adapt and move forward.
If a coach gets hired in IOWA and completely changes the IOWA way, it will fail on all levels! Although you may have more wrestlers that wanna shake hands and cuddle.

You can be impressed with how a team wrestles and still not like them. Four example, Nebby did a great job finishing out the season...just like they did last year after some seriously sucky duals. That doesn't mean I have to like the school or their fans.

As a coach, you are looking for whatever edge you can get. Iowa was in a foxhole this year getting shelled by insiders and outsiders. Brands, staff, the wrestlers...all of it. Just look at all the **** Caliendo took over the handshake and Mikey has been the epitome of class since he's been here.

Thank you both for your responces.
