Im not calling for the brands to be fired... but I see many that are...
So who is your ideal coaching replacements in this hypothetical firing?
Dake? Burrows? Askren? Spencer? Metcalf? Nolf? Dan Gables clone? Give Taylor a blank check?

Taylor already has a blank check. I think that those saying Brands should be fired for 1 loss in 17 tries is kinda crazy. I think opposing fans and opportunists like Askren saying that Brands should be fired after a crap dual is more a comment on their low expectations of Iowa State. It's insulting to Dresser and co that when they finally get their W after 20 years, it should result in Iowa coaches being fired. I get it from Iowa fans...we are spoiled and entitled. That's the downside of having a rabid fanbase. But dang, the sun finally shine's on a dog's *** since Bush was in his first term and that's that?

Ben is still mad that Iowa didn't recruit him out of HS 🤷.

Who hasn’t seen this coming. It not like the loss to isu is the sole reason why.

Best bet is to log off for a few days the takes from casuals are about to be ridiculous. Hire guys who have never coached because now all the sudden 1 guy got a head job and took someone else's guys and got a trophy. And that guy is making 1 million a year. Yet the school is only paying 20% of that. Iowa would pay a new coach 400k max

I’d like to think it’s how some of the Hawks lost that’s driving a lot of the negativity. Tough to see guys like Bailey get paid and then consistently underperform. I will say I don’t have more faith in any of the new coach suggestions than in the Brands

No but I also realize its a November dual and March is what matters. Bailey wasn't great last year he had a good freshman year with his tilt and once he was scouted last year he wasn't as good. His advantage at 133 was speed and strength hes not a strong 141. Williams has had lapses like this his whole career. And those coaches are working with new athletes wait until March to judge Bailey and Williams will they improve I think so. Estrada will be back soon and he should push for the 157 spot. Maybe that will light a fire in Williams time will tell. Overreacting is very common here so I'm not shocked by any of it

Other than the two injuries last year, one of which literally happened during the tournament, I think it's one. Franek finished 8th after finishing R12, R12, 4th. Eierman, Woods, Caliendo and Buchanan all came here and were finalists. Lugo was first time all-American and then senior year cancelled. DeSanto got two third places. Joey Cruz qualified for NCAAs, Teske was R12 after a NQ and R16. So that's 8 up and 3 down this decade (Parco injury included but I think he improves his best without it the way that bracket fell), and we will see what the next three do this year since Mo won't be an even comparison. Did I forget anyone else? I thinking Bailey finishing fourth once was a total fluke, so he'll likely never reach that again no matter where he's wrestling. Williams or Voinovich are both R12 so unlikely this year to beat those but still multiple years left. Peterson can certainly get on the stand this year, I'll be disappointed if he'd R12 again, even if he has to wrestle back to get there.

Absolutely nobody is calling for change over one loss. The issue is the track record from the past 4–5 years, and honestly the last 10–15, except for 2020 and 2021.

If you think today’s frustration is an overreaction to a single result, you have your head buried in the sand.

We all realize someone in your position can't/won't criticize coaching staffs.

But one doesn't have to be a expert to see the problems in this program right now.

Outside of Peterson, Block, and Mikey...the team wasn't ready today.
That's not an overreaction. That's an obvious fact.

There’s simply not a better option available. I think there’s a lot of overreactions to this dual. I think we were just off today. I think Okie St is a far superior team to ISU and we already beat them.

The biggest thing I look at is Cael has been there since 2010. There’s has been 1 coach and team that’s beaten PSU when they’ve tried to win it (every year except 2015) that’s Iowa and Tom Brands in 2010, 2020, 2021.

I think the biggest criticism for TnT is that they are too slow to adapt. I think they finally got things figured out which is what led to 2020 and 2021 seasons, only for the NIL to come about and completely change the ballgame. As Chief pointed out above DT has a blank check and Ira (PSU) is on record saying he will pay whatever it takes for PSU to win (his payroll for non starters at PSU is insane).

As far as our transfers go, everyone wants to point out the bad but not the good. Desanto, Lugo, and Eierman all got better at Iowa before the NIL and mass transfers we see now. Caliendo has certainly gotten better at Iowa and been a hit. Franek was easily our best option the year he was here. Parco getting injured in a match at NCAAs skews the view of him being a success at Iowa. He was making the semis easily last year and was likely placing 4th at worst. Teemer was a bust after the injury against ISU. Buchanan certainly was a plus. Endene is doing fantastic so far. And what nobody wants to talk about, look at all the guys that have left and been even worse at their new schools. I remember people calling for Tom’s head because he chose the Ferraris over Chittum. How has that worked out? Between commitments and actual colleges he’s on his 6th school. And believe it or not he’s 0 for his other schools including against backups.

I think everyone agrees we need to do better, but that doesn’t happen overnight. We have a good core of young guys either here already or coming in. I’m willing to see how the season plays out before making a judgement.

I have a EXTREMELY difficult time trying to understand some IMPORTANT things about IOWA, IOWA wrestling!!! It is without doubt the EPICENTER of USA wrestling and has been since FARMER BURNS, GOTCH(the beginning ) and right on TWOOO GABLE and 2025!!!! 10,000+ at the MATCH today on ESPN and in a SNOW STORM!!! NO where else in the country can this happen!!!

That being said, WHY does it seem, with ALL the HISTORY/FANS that we(IOWA) is fighting from behind!??!?!? Meaning, (and I will point to BASSETT once again) how are "other" teams able to do what they are doing, and we ALWAYS seem to have problems!?!?!?

BO was a HUGE I can't say it enough F*ck up!!!! I mean I look at recently losing AJ also as a B1G F*ck up!!! But BO was OFF the charts!!!! The story goes, he wanted to TRAIN at IOWA whenever with whomever and bring whoever etc.... and as ABBOT in the FAMOUS "who's on 1st" said,

I DON"T GIVE A DAMN!!!!!! He 100% knows others are doing it, HELL his TEAMATE jax is doing it!!!! the good LORD knows what kind off SHeeettttt they are pulling at low level swamp land!!! and yet HERE YOU ALL ARE AGAIN!!!!!

Switch the gr8 KRAILURE with TnT and tell me what would happen????? NO--- I'll tell you!!! The gr8 Krailure would walk the F out!!! Saying F this SHEEEEEEttttttt!!!! and TnT would KICK *** having NO limits!!!

I will once again relay the story of how I had lunch with DAN GABLE at the NCAAs here in NY!!! (it is relevant) Here I see the GREATEST of ALL-TIME walking in a "kind of lost manner" I say "Coach Gable, its an HONOR, you looking for something? I will help you find it?" We are talking a little and he just was not sure where he was going and all, so I said come to my table, grab some food. I was THRILLED he did!!!

As I am talking, about EVERYTHING I can think of with him, I get to the point where I realize, DAN GABLE is here on his OWN DIME!!!! now I get he can afford it and all but WTF!?!?!?? How is it that GABLE does not have his own complete package of tickets, booth, etc...???? I mean does GABLE have to buy tickets to IOWA matches??? Saw him today at the meet does he have to buy tickets?????

ALL these years, ALL the tradition, ALL the fans, where is ALL the $$$$$, where is ALL the FU to ANYONE, getting in the way of WINNING!!!! and I am NOT saying go out and "pay the refs" but for the LOVE of GOD get to at least an even playing field!!!!!

SOOOOO do not bring up "coaches" !!! You could bring in GABLE 2.0 and without the BACKING you move NOWHERE!!!! IF I had WON the F-in POWERBALL, my first(maybe 2nd-3rd) moves was to head to IOWA and straight shhhhEEEEETTT out with a BAG of $$$$ and a BASEBALL bat!!!!

"oh IRON our ***** AD won't allow it, anndddd our oversight committee..... Well as the GR8 BLUTO would say...." DEAD!!!"

You’re joking right? He went to Cornell to get work in finance then decided he wanted to coach. There wasn’t an opening at Iowa and there was at Minny. Same reason Cass is at Wisky. Nobody wants to coach with Bono (except Reader apparently), but it’s a first gig and it’s in the Big Ten.

Alas, he also hates folk style. He barely keeps that hate contained during TV gigs as he knows it won’t play well (I.e. trashing it won’t get you more airtime)

Bailey was 23-5 and the 3rd seed at 133 last year!

That’s not a great year?
Not a great NCAA tournament for sure, but how do you say a 3 seed at nationals isn’t good?

Fair enough and I agree include 157. We didn’t wrestle smart at 133 and 174 as well. Kennedy shot himself out of the match trying to get a tech in the first period instead of sticking what works for him. TD, ride, heavy on the head etc and go into the third up 7-3 and finish him off that way. I get what he was trying to do but sometimes, if you don’t have your best stuff, adjust and just win. We’ll see where 197 and HWY are by the end of the season. I was impressed with Ryder Block once again.

We need guys like this. We need to do what Okie St. did. No offense to Schwab but I don't see a bunch of bluechipper top-10 p4p guys coming to Iowa to wrestle for Doug Schwab.

Your comment about Kennedy and his match tactics are something I’ve wondered. It feels as if there’s not a big emphasis on game planning opponents or self scouting our own guys.
Was Kennedy not aware that gaitan had that move to put him in neutral danger from a head inside single? Maybe that was something new, I have no idea. The fact he went back to the same position after the first time makes me think he had no idea.

Everyone knows what Drake is going to do, and unfortunately you never see him attack the opponents left leg in a big match. Not to mention, is frost that good on top that Drake wanted to go neutral? Was that pre determined decision prior to the dual? I’d assume Drake trusted that he wouldn’t get taken down

those are two specific instances from today, but that to me is a trend that I’ve noticed over the years.

It’s because they actually wrestle people now and won’t go in to the tournament with unfair records and seeds. Arizona State doesn’t wrestle anyone so of course they get great seeds and wrestle one hard tournament. It takes a special kid to wrestle Iowa’s schedule. 10 loses for Iowa and 10 loses at Arizona State or Little Rock are totally different. We need to do better finding the right fits

The thing i felt good about is Iowa was heading into this having already been in real high pressure matches in Tulsa. ISU haven't felt that yet. Corby says calm it's only November but using the National Duals to spring from should have helped Iowa. Its not like it was the first real taste of tough competition. So I dont buy the November downplay quite that simple
