I gotta disagree along with several others. These 2 situations were nothing alike. Pitino left UK in as good a shape as anyone could have. So much so that his successor won a natty in year 1. He left for the opportunity to coach the Celtics. A dream job for him and likely the only one he would have left UK for.

Meanwhile, Cal decided at some point that getting guys drafted was more important than winning. When he left he took all his recruits and players with him, leaving the cubbard 100% bare.

Pitino really got into trouble with UK fans when he took the UL job. That made public enemy #1 at that point. UK fans were bummed when Pitino left for Boston, but they hated him for going to UL. But as far as the circumstances of their exits, nothing alike.

No doubt. Gillespie left us in better shape than Cal did. F*** him.

Most of the posts I’m reading in that thread are waaaaaay over-analyzing the situation. The simple fact is Cal couldn’t coach his way out of an ultra-thin condom.
yea but when he is your coach, admitting that means the season is over

It is like the Pitino situation is a lot of ways. The fan base feels like he used and abused us for years at the end and we will rightfully Imo be all over him and celebrate his losses until he decides to come back home and kiss the ring. Once he does that I will welcome him back with open arms but for the time being I hope he never wins again.
I gotta disagree on this one. He isn’t like Rick at all. Cal started all this generational woke bs inside school grounds and trashed the program and taunted the fan base, and then immediately went to a SEC and took all his players. He can go get F’d if he ever wants a chance to kiss the ring. I say unless he is getting beat by UK he isn’t ever welcome for a long time.

Enjoying it, I was sick of Cal when he was still at Memphis. As many predicted, he left a mess at UK, glad Pope was able to assemble a team on late notice.
I hope the Hogs sign him to a lifetime contract to take the pressure off of Cal and he can continue his success there, they deserve each other.
