Nothing ever will change that. I will die a Duke fan and am grateful that we were so fortunate to have the greatest basketball coach ever leading our team for 38 years. I hate to see where our program would be without him but I do know there would not be the fan base is now if not for him. It's possible some day that Duke basketball will not be on the level it is now. I challenge every single one of you to stay as loyal as you are now. It hurts me to read some of the post being so critical of Coach K but it is their right to do so. If you are a Duke fan for life no matter what let me know about it. Love this year's team and I hope everyone of them is successful in whatever their carears may take them. OFC

A lot of people lack perspective and can't even really enjoy being a fan. My guess is a lot of people who are posting on this board today will not be around after K leaves.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable season with an incredibly entertaining team to watch. They competed hard and played for each other all while having by far the most pressure and biggest spotlight on them than any other team. All of these players deserve our respect, support, and gratitude. Duke will be back next year and right there in line for another great season

Been a Duke fan since 1978, diehard since '84.

This was a seriously disappointing season. Such a downer for that much talent to not get to the FF. Especially when it wasn't that they were outplayed by someone while playing their best. They just shot themselves in the foot mentally and with poor fundamentals - time after time after time - which is almost the anti-Duke teams (eve for freshmen) from the 1st two decades of K's career. And the veterans just haven't developed much.

Times like these I know exactly why I’m a Duke fan. The amount of messages I’ve received in the past hour or so is one thing. BUT, scrolling through my social media and seeing people that don’t even know sports, let alone college basketball, make posts about them losing. Or the meme i always see “America is better when Duke loses”.. It used to aggravate me beyond belief. But you’re making a post, having no idea what you’re even talking about. Duke has to be doing something right for everyone to get that excited about it. I love it.

I think with almost all of us, life can be stressful and uncomfortable at times. Sports is a way for us to unwind and take our minds off things for a while, then we get too attached and pull them into our reality and we let it bring us down when they arent there to lift us up. I get caught up in that sometimes, but after having my little boys last April, has kept things in perspective. And I'm going to make him be a App St fan so he never has real expectations but just enjoy the games.....just kidding that boy better be a Dukie.

I love duke and man this hurts. But I've always maintained, as long as maximum effort was given, I'll be okay with the results.

Our boys played their guts out and just lost. That's okay.

It wouldn’t hurt so much if we weren’t Duke fans and this one is going to hurt for a while. Going to miss watching this team as frustrating as they were at times. Gonna have to watch some Zion NBA games that’s for sure.

For all the people complaining about OADs, hope you stick around next year. Potentially 5 upperclassmen starting or getting big minutes. Think we’ll be in for a nice little surprise

Thanks to all of you for supporting this thread. Have no idea who this troll is or his motivation but I'm asking you guys not to reply or respond to it. It just wants to get a response and if no of us pays any attention it will crawl back under the troll bridge. OFC

Die hard too since Tommy Amaker’s mom was an English teacher at my high school - Oakton HS in 1986. Grant Hill was in our conference a couple years behind me. Will never change. Sucks so bad to lose but this was a special team.

Great post.

I’m only 27 but I’ve been a fan since I was old enough to understand basketball... Thought it was the coolest thing that a school had the same name as my grandparent’s dog. Funny how that led to becoming a fan of such a successful program. I’m lucky. Been loyal through a lot of thrills of victory and agonies of defeat. It won’t ever change.

This has been one of my favorite Duke teams ever. They were far from perfect....but I loved the dynamics. They played for name on the front of the jersey. They actually got after it on defense. Watching Zion. Enjoying another Jones boy. Seeing the national attention. And so much more.

The only bad thing? Not winning the last game. But that’s not why I’m a fan.

This is important. Tons of fans (of powerhouse b-ball schools) think the season is worthless without a banner. Reality is that it’s extremely rare to win 2 in a decade. If people base every season on that aspect, they’re going to be miserable. That goes for all fan bases.

It’s the most important / biggest goal, but it’s far from everything. The loss tonight stings, but I had a great time watching our guys this year. Fun group.

You are right, but unfortunately for me. There are only two seasons....the ones you win a title, and the ones you don’t. I can’t get past that. For me, the only reason there is a season, is to end as champions. You either are, or you aren’t. And I hate every season that we aren’t. Some people may be satisfied with an elite 8. Not me....and I bet not for K or the payers either

Been a fan since the late sixties and look forward to each year. I think some of these bench players will work on their games this off season knowing they will see the floor more.

Great thread Sky! I have and always will be one crazy Duke fan until I take my last breath. Growing up in NC, I was born with a choice and thankful I chose the right color blue. No matter how bad I feel when they loose, I can deal with it knowing things could be a lot worse. These guys played their tails off all year, and with that comes both joy and heart break. Can't have one without the other. I enjoy every year of seeing my boys play and one of the reason I'm so positive every game. Sometimes you don't realize what you miss until it's taken away from you. So learn to look for positive no matter how tough it may be. You don't have to waste any energy looking for the negative, because it's always right in front of you. I hope a few fans truly do a self evaluation and cut back on some of the bashing. Just think, you could of ended up a Cheat fan.

I used to think that way. The relief of winning replaced the euphoria and excitement of winning. One day it just kind of hit me that that I if I keep that mindset, I’m not enjoying anything.

But yeah... Nothing is more important than winning it all.
