Thanks for the info.
Yep.

We are in wait and see mode.

Sounds like we get at least four back.

Ament is a real possibility.

Rumors that we get commits from Pringle and Ewin potentially soon.

I kind of want DJ back. I know y'all have mixed on him but i like his maturity and will take it with his defects

Why do you constantly argue with others here? Can't people have their opinions without others trampling on them?
Huh? He wasn’t being argumentative in that post, he just asked a valid question.

Out of curiosity, who do you think Calipari will start at PG & SG next season if Wagner returns? Also, do you expect Calipari will start Ament if he commits to Ark, and if so, at what position?

This feels like a trap but not much question Acuff starts at the 1. If DJ is back, i see all three guards getting 25-30 minutes and some three guard lineups.

The rest i can't answer until i see what is back.

Somehow I messed up quote. This was the quote I was trying to reply to:

"
Like I said, the OP wants Jordan and Bird in their prime, or he ain’t happy.

LOL!
"

Yeah, he tramples on other's opinions.

My guess is if Wagner comes back, they start 3 guards.

Ament goes there, he starts at the 4.

I feel like Brazile comes back, but I’m sure with all that Tyson chicken money, they will bring in a solid big man and use Brazile as the sixth man.

Richmond would be seven and then Cal
adds 2-3 more and calls it a day and settles in to watch LHotP all summer.

Yeah, I can understand how that comes across as a loaded question from a UK fan. But I am genuinely curious about how Ark. basketball fans currently view how Calipari builds rosters and determines starting lineups and then revisit that in another year or two. Any fan would expect the answer to be: "He puts together rosters and picks the starting unit he thinks best gives his team a chance to win the most games." I always use to think the answer would be the same in regard to any coach. But I'm convinced that isn't true in regard to Calipari. He basically told UK fans that winning games wasn't his primary goal many times in different ways, but it took me a long time to really believe that was true. Somewhere around 2017/2018 I finally figured out he wasn't lying - winning is not Calipari's primary goal.

You people who are freaking out because our roster isn't set in early April (We didn't even have our coach this time last year) or because you're too ignorant to understand Lowe is one of the top point guards available look really stupid and will look even more stupid after the roster is set. A lot of you are truly insufferable.

Panic button?? Kentucky is #3 in the country as far as the combined ranking of portal players and HS recruiting this year… what the hell are you talking about? We are doing exactly what was needed

Yeah, the panic button man. Hit it. We are so screwed.

Imagine returning 36% of your scoring and 5 guys with system experience, adding 3 Top 30 recruits, 1 of whom was a Burger Boy and another who would've been if eligible...then on top of that you only get an All ACC PG who had to do everything for an awful team and a wing transfer who is a *growth spurt kid* (look at players who had his type of growth spurt, they are generally freaks) who shot 40% from 3 and says he will do "anything" coach needs to win. Plus those guys only have 2-3 years of eligibility left.

Sounds awful.

Lowe is a superstar. He will prove it on the court. Kid will be unstoppable with good coaching and teammates that help.
Agreed.

And I would consider Yates and Pierre to be superstars (portal wise).

Either one of those with Lowe is a great backcourt.

Then throw in Oweh and Chandler at the 3 and Lewis and Johnson as backup guards.

Backcourt is going to be loaded.

Could be your experience and may turn out true. But if we get back who i think we get back and add from Portal and HS then he is looking to win now.

If i'm wrong, i'll admit it. Before year he talked about recruiting great HS Kids[Acuff, Thomas, Sealy and maybe Ament]
We are evidently trying to retain Thiero and it's more likely than not.

Retention will be good. I expect Knox, Brazile, Billy and good chance at Thiero and DJ is on the fence.

Supposedly we’re doubling Thiero’s NIL next year trying to get him back. A little surprised with how Cal usually encourages players to go pro when they have a chance. But I guess the main point is making money and now they can do that in college too.

LOL, yes Freshman are gonna absolutely provide next year.

It's load up in the portal or be mediocre next season.

There are three pieces to the puzzle.

We need returning players. We should have five guys back.

We need high level recruits. We have three.

We need some good portal players. We have two, so far.

I feel like we are on the right track.

We need Oweh to be our 3rd best player next year. My opinion.

That or upgrade the entire roster.

I'm good with the incoming Freshman, the returnees, but we are losing our best players, and I'd rather replace them with the portal.

I think that’s the plan, replace most, if not all of them, from the portal.

But the Freshman are pretty good and I expect them to get some run.

I do hope that some of the freshman from last year will be in 13-15 positions. That means we have a very good roster.

If Perry or Noah are expected to play more than mopping minutes , that means we are not better than last year.
Disagree somewhat on second sentence. Who is to say (hopefully) that both of them now knowing what the college level is like will not push themselves in the off season to be better in order to compete at this level.

Yes, we probably will have better talent if they are pushed to 13-15 and they would probably go by the way of transferring the following year but given how well they played/shot in high school, I am hoping their motivation/competitiveness to play better will push them to be better.

Wishful thinking/hoping? ...Yeah.

Agree.

Noah can be a contributor at the backup 4 and a little 3 as a JR/SR. I don’t think Perry has the lateral quickness to guard the 1 well enough to ever be more than a 10 min a game, get some shots up type piece

But if either of them are leaned on heavily as sophomores then Kentucky isn’t recruiting at Kentucky levels
The statement in bold type above is their (Perry and Noah's) biggest problem. That can be improved with proper strength and quickness training. Fast twitch muscles can be improved in anyone, and I hope Pope sees this and works on it for them. That first step makes all of the difference with keeping up with the opponent and would help them shake a defender to create open shots as well. But of course, recognition of movement is also crucial to being able to keep up. Both are good shooters and could help a lot going forward simply by improving in this area of their game. Not starters maybe, but giving good minutes when shooting is off from the starters.

Once again as I posted in an earlier post to someone else, Wishful Thinking? ...yeah.

Pope promised 2 superstars from transfer portal, so I am still waiting to see who those are before hit the panic button.

So far we have 10 players on the rosters, which is not bad considering that we are in the final four weekend( last year around this time Cal was still our Coach):

PG : Lowe , Lewis, Chandler , Perry
CG: Johnson
SF: Oweh , Williams, Noah
PF
C Garrison, Moreno

We also know that Pope and staff contacted:

PG : Lee- Princeton, Collins - TCU

CG : Rice - Maryland, Pierre- Jacksonville St, Wilkerson - Sam Houston, Moore - Syracuse, Bashir- Monmouth

SF: Freeman - Lincoln Memorial div ii, Griffen - Kansas

PF: Folgueiras - Robert Morris/ Spain, Mgbako - Indiana, Dioubate - Alabama

I am sure until April 27 more players will enter the portal and also next week we might get more clarity from the hearing on NIL, revenue sharing cap .

So far , I like that we kept Oweh, Garrison and Lowe and Williams both bring more length and athleticism and they have multi year of eligibility.

The three incoming Freshman will be a definite upgrade to the 3 freshman from last year. The last year freshman should play some limited role next year.

It will be interesting to see if Pope and staff goes for 3 more players or 5 more since we will have 15 scholarships available. I hope he goes for 5 more , including the 2 superstars he talked about.
Coaches have different definitions for superstars than fans do. Pretty simple. Pope probably believes he already got one portal superstar because of how excited he is about that guy fitting his system.

We still need an elite shooter, a stretch four, and probably another big who can play the 4/5.

1. Williams is replacing Almonor (minutes-wise, not skill set).
2. Lowe replaces Butler.
3. Lewis replaces Kriisa.
4. Johnson replaces Robinson.
5. Moreno replaces Williams (in part, but I think the coaches know we need more).

Need someone to replace Brea and Carr.

According to sir kerr on Twitter, UK had a very strong portal locked up but balked by slow playing and it cost us. No way that account isnt legit. Theyre calling everything days in advance.

I kind of want DJ back. I know y'all have mixed on him but i like his maturity and will take it with his defects

Jmo but iirc everyone here knew dj would eventually be a very good college player. The only complaint was cal absolutely thrust him into a role he didn't deserve when reed and rob were way better.

No one thought hed ever see a jr season. If cal were still here, he probably wouldn't because cal pushed out everyone when he was here.

I don't know that he's a star but he is what we need in a tough, physical 3 or small ball 4 that can defend and rebound. If he gets more consistent on offense then he could be a star because he has shown he can go for 20+ at any time but he has to do it on a more consistent basis.
