Sorry for the entire basketball program. Not pointing fingers but its starting a new "Dark Ages" and the only question is if us or Rutgers end up in last place.
I have no opinion on how to get out of this, Im just sad for all involved.
Something is very very wrong.

You obviously know zero about basketball if you think this is a return to the pre-Carmody days....

i know very little about basketball. I just feel sorry for the guys. It will never be pre BC cuz we have 14 teams now which gives us opportunity to at least win a couple games.
Im not sure what the problem is but it looks like we are at ground zero.

Losing by 1 pt on the road to a top 20 team is not dark ages no matter how agonizing the loss.

This game showed we were close to getting back to where we want to be. Disappointing for sure but a lot to build on. This team can rebound and actually plays D. And the O is coming back around.

Very true.

The best thing is that despite a disappointing season, the kids haven't quit. Say what you want about Collins' X's and O's, but his teams don't quit. You can tell in the post-game interviews how much he cares for his kids, and they seem to respond.

i appreciate your hope. I think the team got mentally devastated. They were winning on all cards then got knocked out of the ring with 10 seconds left in the 12th round.

I agree. Although PSU might be evidence against that.

Originally, I thought the Iowa game was going to be a death march. Glad to be wrong.

The Rutgers game is another test. I could see this being a disaster.

Everyone keeps harping on how Penn St. is such an atrocious team, but their NET ranking is 73 for a reason. And they are definitely trending upward; their game at Ohio St. last time out is one of the best BIG games I have seen all year...

It's not like we lost to Chicago St.

Penn State beat a ranked Virginia Tech team in the ACC challenge and that was Va. Tech's only loss for quite a while. Nobody likes to play them at State College and Northwestern, even when we've had decent teams, seems to play horribly against them (which bugs me as my brother is a PSU alum). I don't see an NCAA champion in the B1G this year, but I also think there isn't a truly lousy team in the conference.

On the other hand, in football, losing by one touchdown (17-10) to #11 Michigan at Ann Arbor in September, 1980 was just one more loss in the streak. I am glad the Iowa loss was in basketball! I guess the sun will rise tomorrow.

Things are never as bad as they seem, nor as good as they appear. There is a lot of randomness in life.

Penn State isn't exactly horrible. They've been in a lot of games and other than a blown call by the refs would have beat Purdue.
I think that a loss to Penn State needs an explanation is pretty solid evidence that we are no better than like 13th in the conference

Agree we are among the bottom 3-4 teams in the conference. But it's arguably the deepest big ten conference we have ever seen so strangely we are still pretty good by relatively objective measures.

We don't beat Rutgers, we finish 14th in the conference this year.
As for the Iowa game, that was EXACTLY a Carmody type of loss. We should be past that. Oh wait, I forgot, we're trying to play in the Big Ten without a point guard.

Is Michigan last then? It's a really competitive conference where literally anyone can beat anyone else on a given night. Unless you get blown out there really are no bad losses in the conference this season.

After 13 or 14 games, conference record tells the story. Right now NU is tied for 12th, a game ahead of PSU. Like Bill Parcells said, "you are what your record says you are".....
