The coach making the proposal to separate the private and public state championship loses to BMac in the title game and less than a week later proposes the separation of private and public championships. This guy wasn't sharp enough to get a buddy of his to make the proposal.
If you look up the definition of sour grapes you will see this coach's picture prominently displayed.

Accidental Like. But let downstate publics have 2 classes all to themselves. Then the next quibble will be something like a black population multiplier.

I notice they never want to separate themselves from the tax revenue that pays for them.

I like the current arrangement. The "catholic vs public" games makes the playoffs interesting and exciting. (I've been watching HS football for 20 years and had never seen either Naz or Montini play. (Btw, after watching both I think I now understand their formula). This season we saw one of the best games in IHSA history in Loyola vs Homewood Flossmoor. The game could've gone either way- right down to the wire. In a separate catholic/public scenario---that game doesn't happen. Let's keep it! Also, prior to this season, I had never heard the argument from the catholics which says, "the publics have superior facilities and resources". Well, they may have a point- I saw Homewood's new facilities and they are jaw-dropping.....better than most NCAA facilities. Its great for those kids--combine those facilities with great coaching and committed, athletic players- and the publics will compete with the catholics anyday of the week. Also, I think its obvious Naz and Montini should be in either 7a or 8a. Those games were boring an I think their coaches and players would want to move up as well. They could easily compete at the higher levels and I'll bet they want to.

Naz and Montini certainly could compete well in 7A and 8A...as could public schools like Phillips, Prairie Ridge, Crete-Monee, Hinsdale South, etc.

But, here's the thing: Few, if any, of those schools would make it past the third round in 7A or 8A. Eventually, they would run into GW, L'ville, Loyola or H-F and they would be beaten.

There are lots of schools (private AND public) smaller than 7A and 8A that would be competitive in those classes. I would go so far as to say that, generally speaking, the upper 10-15% of most classes would be competitive playing up a class or two in the playoffs. Why Naz and Montini and not the others? Hell, Naz and Montini are ALREADY playing up from where their actual size would place them.

Nat Zunkel take a lap. Buffoon is probably writing it in taxpayer purchased crayons on tear-filled Kleenex (they were on the supply list).

Heaven forbid anyone propose a fair system...typical private school reaction, fearing they lose their advantage

Speaking of tax revenue..I heard today that the idea of increasing the Illinois personal tax rate from 5% to 10% is being talked about. Chicago is in huge trouble...as we all know. Don't know any particulars and haven't had time yet to check it out yet.

That's not correct, Madigan talked about income tax going back to 5%.
