used to bleed Forum Blue, but lately it's been harder and harder to care about them (or the NBA) and the Lakers' snub of Jerry West has now turned me off completely . To hell with the Lakers and the NBA

I've been a Lakers' fan since 1979. Jerry West is one of the four most important Lakers of all-time. He wasn't just a great player, but a fabulous General Manager, too. West was responsible for constructing the roster that won three titles 20 years ago. He's on my "Mount Rushmore" of Lakers royalty, along with Magic, Kareem, and Kobe. Jerry Buss was a great owner, and although his daughter isn't the brightest bulb on the Christmas Tree, she is smarter than her dumb brother Jim, as she's wise enough to hire basketball experts to make personnel decisions for the team.

I finished my USMC career in Southern California.
Used to watch and listen on the radio to the Lakers because of Chick Hearn.
After Chick Hearn died. It wasn't like watching the Lakers anymore.

Lakers have a lot of people in their organization

West is with the Clippers now as well

Chick Hearn was the best. A "bunny hop in the pea patch" and the "jello's jiggling" were a couple of his funny sayings. I buy the NBA League Pass every year on DirecTV, just to watch the Lakers. Not the same without old Chick, though.

Lakers organization has changed.

Go to their Twitter followers. Basketball being a global game helps.

But I don't think a North American Sports Team can come close.

Basketball is about the current and not the past. People ride with players.
LeBron is known around the world.

Jeannie and Phil are very close.

Basketball is still a team game, and the Lakers were great before LeBron, and will be great after he's gone. Leftists focus on the individual, but the four most popular American sports remain as TEAM sports.

Society focuses on the current.

Same thing happens in soccer. Past players aren't important as the current because the game attempts to grow.

Basketball is down that rabbit hole.
People know who LeBron is. They don't know Jerry West.

What about Shaq?
What about Wilt?
What about Elgin Baylor?

A lot of other great players

Long-time Lakers' fans support the Purple & Gold regardless of the names on the back of the jerseys. LeBron is a short-timer in the grand scheme of things, and the Lakers will continue to be able to attract the superstars after he's gone, just as they've always done. I hope to see him win another title, but at 36, he may not.

Jerry was pushed out by Jeannie Buss (who was was doing Phil Jackson at the time). Phil was threatened by The Logo. Jerry would have retired a Laker. For her to leave him off a top 5 all time list and have Phil Jackson on it WHO DIDN'T EVEN PLAY FOR THE LAKERS was an intentional smear. Jerry is pissed and any WVU/ Laker fan should be too.

Sounds like a soap opera. Did Jerry get a taste as well. Is that why Phil was jealous.

Haven't heard Shaq complaining.

Jerry is complaining because he works for the Clippers.

No one is calling Bill Russell the GOAT even though he has 11 championships...
A lot of old time players get disrespected by the current.

Just how basketball is

I doubt Jerry was touching that.
Jerry was also a huge part of the rise of Golden State.

Shaq was leveraged out by Kobe. He essentially made it a "him or me" thing.
If Jerry was still there, he would have made it work.
Recently they tried to revise it to make it about money to preserve Kobe's legacy.

Buss needs to apologize.

Been a Lakers fan since 68. Lebron James has turned me away from my team. I have not watched a Laker game for over a year now due to his political ramblings and **** oozing BS.

As one of the best players in college basketball, West was selected second-overall in the 1960 NBA Draft by the Minneapolis Lakers. The team moved to Los Angeles shortly after. In his 14-year career, the shooting guard had nine NBA Finals appearances.

Cooke didn't buy the Lakers until 1965 from Bob Short for 5 million dollars. Under Cooke's ownership the Lakers moved to Los Angeles and changed their colors from Royal and Light Blue to the current Purple which he referred to as Forum Blue and Gold. The Lakers during Cooke's ownership reached seven NBA Finals and won the Title in 1972.

Cooke sold the Forum, Kings, and Lakers in 1979 to Dr. JErry Buss for a then-record combined $67.5 million ($238,000,000 in current dollar terms) part of the compensation included the Chrysler Building.

So now you know Jerry played under 2 different owners in 2 different states for the same Lakers.

Same here Allen. In My Honest Opinion, as a person, Lebron is a POS.. He's out for himself only. I'll never watch a game he plays.

I don't agree with James' political views, but to say that he's "out for himself only" is disingenuous. He's given back to the Akron community in a significant way.

ESPN ruined the NBA damn near 20 years ago. What took some of you so long?

Highlights of dunks and what about me attitudes totally ruined the sport. I think it's close to the WWE now days. I was a Spurs fan going back to the days of Ice Man back in the 70s, and listened to Laker games on the radio back in the late 60s when West, Baylor, Hairston, Wilt were all playing. Watched some during the Spurs run, but then Pops had to start running his mouth. He's worse than LeBron (in my opinion).

Nah, T-Bone just ruined the old WVU Scout board, then changed his profile on other message boards, due to his understandable embarrassment.

Don't know about others but I'm sure the sell of Scout Board to CBS Sports then later sold to 247 had a lot to do with it their changes.

You seem to have a habit of accusing individuals when you become unnerved over something. Poor childhood perhaps.

Just because he gives a little money to his home town area to boost his image doesn't make him a good person. He glorifies himself whenever he gives anything.

Lebron James has turned me away from the entire NBA!!!

I haven't cared about the NBA since Shaq played for the Magic. At some point NBA became "Not Basketball Anymore" with this obsession towards superstars and super teams. Offenses became getting your star be it James, Kobe, Harden, etc... in isolation and go at it. Entire offenses based on that.
Then offense is helped by players taking 4-5 steps while "making a move" to the basket without a travel call. Defense completely neutered with fouls being called against the defense if an offensive player merely brushes against the defender while trying to get past. Even though I hardly paid attention, some of my friends do. Despite my ignorance I could predict 4 teams at the start of the season and sure enough the Finals would come down to 2 of those 4. Then factor in all this BS, not a chance I'd watch it now it's not really a sacrifice. MLB on the other hand I was a big fan of, but I won't watch them either for becoming political hacks.

If you ran a store.

What would you rather have

3 75 year old customers for life
Or
1 19 year old customer for life

NBA/MLB/Coca-Cola/whoever thinks along these lines

Not really political...
More about establishing themselves with a younger auidence

If you look at the statistics you see why

The current ownership has always placed money over the fanbase.
They believe by winning the fans will always be there.

You see by tickets.

One of the reasons why the Lakers developed a loyal local following was that they put half their games on over the air channel.
They were really only reason to watch KCAL9. But anyone with a television within a huge market could watch half their games.

Then they went behind a paywall with Time Warner.
Now what is Spectrum. Have to get Spectrum to watch the Lakers.

Cuomo would put the 75 year olds in nursing homes to die, while trying to screw the 19 year old.
