Best Virginia will head to the TBT semifinals.

Best Virginia will head to the semifinals of the TBT for the first time after knocking off Shell Shock 74-61 in Charleston.

The West Virginia alumni team never trailed in the game. James Reese led Best Virginia with 24 points, while Toby Okani scored 10, Jarrod West added 9 points and Tre Mitchell added 7. JD Weatherspoon, who also made the game winning basket, also scored 7 points.

Best Virginia was able to get out to a strong 19-9 first quarter lead fueled by some strong trademark defensive pressure which sped up Shell Shock into some bad shots. The Maryland alumni team would settle in some in the second quarter cutting the deficit to 32-24 at halftime.

Shot selection was an issue in the second quarter for Best Virginia as it didn’t allow the West Virginia alumni team to set up their defense and gave Shell Shock a chance to find some momentum.

Reese led the scoring for Best Virginia with 12 at halftime, while Shell Shock shot only 29.6-percent from the floor and just 16.7-percent from three.

Best Virginia extended the lead to 41-26 early in the third quarter as they frustrated the Maryland alumni team on the defensive end of the floor. However, Shell Shock would again go on a 17-6 run to cut the deficit to 47-43 heading into the fourth quarter.

Shell Shock made things even more interesting cutting the deficit to just a single possession, before Best Virginia went on a run to make it 65-54 heading into the Elam Ending.

Best Virginia would then close out the game eclipsing the target score of 73.

Best Virginia will now take on the winner of Sideline Cancer and Eberlein Drive Thursday at 6 p.m. in Charleston.
