Its not the sh*t from other fan bases. Its the constant teasing of possibilities. We don't say " wait til next year" any more, but we ignorantly think it. I don't think the chicken curse is real, but there's definitely something that makes this team choke EVERY single time. If something negative is possible...the Gamecocks will do it.

The chicken curse is real. No other program has the history of unbroken futility in football that SC does. In 132 years, there should have been some period of more than three years that gamecock football was a powerhouse. Even the glory years of Spurrier were victims of the chicken curse. What other SEC program has won 11 games a season for three years in a row and not even made the SECCG during that time?

Spurrier said in interviews that when he took the Carolina job that the Administration told him that the only expectations was to make a bowl game every few years and focus on just beating Clemson. He went on to say how he said screw that and focused on beating elite SEC teams.

Skip to now a decade later. Nothing with our Administration has changed. It’s all about finding something, anything, to hype fans for the next season so they don’t have to make changes.

I hate it too. I’m done after next year. That will make a total of 44 years. Money and greed doesn’t sit well with me. No one wants to be a gamecock unless it pays more than the other guys.

I already requested to Nike that they make us re-usable brown paper bags to wear over our heads at games next year.

I used to think, “it’s just a game”, but it’s not! We choose to be part of this tribe, whether through indoctrination as a child, being a graduate, by proximity, whatever; but it’s our tribe. We go to war every Saturday, to destroy the other team, and dominate other tribes. There is no leaving. We can’t just swim to another island and join another tribe, it’s impossible. We cut our hands and took the blood oath. Even when I don’t watch the game, I scramble to ESPN.com to check the score. I’m still torn apart when we lose, even though my rational brain says, “it’s just a game.” My primordial brain however, wants to win; wants my tribe to kill, dominate, destroy. Unfortunately, I cannot root for another team, I am stuck here, mind, body, soul.

It’s really not that serious.

Never compare football to war. Football is a game. War is life and death.
