He has serious ball placement and accuracy issues. There have been several examples of this against “the big boys”.
Today, K. Saunders saved his *** on the horrible throw on 4th down. There were many other completions today that slowed down the pass catcher because they had to wait for the ball or not keep the pass catcher in stride. Not even mentioning the bad passes that never even had a chance.
I hope I’m wrong but he may not be the saviour.

He isn’t a savant. He looks like a guy who could figure it out over 2 or 3 years. I would say there is no where else for him to go but up, but I don’t know what is going to change unless he can throw guys open. Most NFL QBs can’t do that.

Like Hackenberg...he's regressing with each game. It isn't him because he was throwing far better earlier in the year. He knows he's dealing with:

(b) a permeable offensive line

(c) untalented, yet selfish WR's and TE's.

It pains me to watch Franklin ruin another 4-5 QB because of his insane and offensive "offensive philosophy"

The wr issue just isn’t getting better for him this year. So, he’s got to help himself by running for some cheap yards and first downs. I’m encouraged that he seems to be doing some of this now.

His accuracy can be erratic to say the least. Obviously, a myriad of things can contribute to each misfire. He’s a young kid with talent and they all develop differently. Hopefully he figures it out.

I hate to agree, but I do. We had success in the past with a run around and throw it guy (trace). Basically don’t run the play that was called type offense. We don’t have the staff that is capable of producing a manning/brady pocket guy and there may not be a player alive who is so GD gifted that he can make our staff look like geniuses. Go ask Levis. To some extent, Clifford is closer to Allar than he is mcsorley. Clifford couldn’t get it done either.

I was laughing earlier in the year when Allar was looking like a world beater and OSU fans were trying to pump up how good McCord was and would be. Well, Allar is regressing and McCord is really coming on the last few weeks. That's coaching as McCord has an ex NFL QB coach (Ryan Day) coaching him up. I won't even bother with our horseshit staff. That McCord kid looks really, really good thanks to the OSU staff.

In baseball, you often hear the term pitching backwards. The comment was made yesterday that the Michigan D was moving closer and closer as the game went on, creating the phone booth that most QB’s will have great difficulty with. I assume that PSU felt that their greatest chance for success was running but even that success was being diminished as the D started moving closer to line of scrimmage. So, don’t you at some point have to coach backwards even if the chances are not great you’ll be successful? Drive the thing down the field, use the whole field, etc. Is there any play in the book to have KLS run an end around or even a jet sweep?

I think #15 can be very good but he’s battling the other guy’s 11 AND HIS own coaching staff. For the rest of the season now including the bowl game, let it rip and start preparing him to be the guy. Let him make the uncomfortable throws or throws that you haven’t let him make for whatever reason. I still think he can be really good, give him a chance and if he fails does anyone really object to seeing what you really have by putting the game more in his hands for the remainder of the year.

There’s no harm in recognizing fit and playing to it. Allar is not a fit for the system PSU runs. Both parties will benefit from that decision.

Nice post. Agree completely. The OC’s job is to put the QB, especially a young first year starter, in a position to succeed not fail. Yurcich did that against Maryland with much success but turtled up against Michigan by running on early downs and putting Allar in third and long far too often.

You can bet that without a very good defense the offense would have been more creative. I think MY's big mistake, and probably James' too, was to put too much faith in the defense. That faith is justified but misplaced if they thought they could win a slog against Michigan and tOSU. PSU has to "go for it", not lay back and await our opponent's mistakes. That works against Maryland, not so much against the buttoned up good teams who have the talent to make a few plays regardless of the defense.

Yurcich was the fall guy. It is Franklins job to oversee the game plan provided by the coordinators. He has a head set on to talk during the game and make suggestions. He stands on the sideline without any emotion for the most part. He is ultimately responsible and sometimes comes off as arrogant in the press conferences. I do not think he is the guy to get us to the elite level. We need a young coach with energy and passion.

Have always suspected that he was overrated. It's one thing to look great in HS, or against the Delawares and UMass's of the world. Quite another playing the upper echelons.

Jeesh! At least we didn't write him off too soon. I'd like to give him a full season as "the guy" and then an off-season. His HS offense was 4 verts and heave. There'll be ups and downs. He looked pretty good @ Maryland, last week, not so much. He's just learning the college game. Kerry Collins was shaky in '93. 1994 was a little different.
