If it is a mouse--sticky trap.

I'd used peanut butter previously. It never failed.

Yes. I had same problem. Put some small things like boxes all around the trap (2-3” high) so Jerry has to climb up and literally jump down from the box onto the trap.

I have 4 snap traps & 4 sticky traps ..
Unsnapped & peanut butter gone , on the snap trap I wrapped thread around it
PB is too easy to get off the trap. Tie a small piece of chicken to the trigger. The mouse will have to pull on the chicken to eat it and is much more likely to snap the trap.

Will try ...I'm going to Lowe's to get a couple more traps . I read this morning they love chocolate & beef jerky, so I'm gonna dip chicken & jerky in chocolate & then tie it down ...

someone mentioned getting a cat, and that's far and away the best protection against mice. lot's of negatives involved, but if you have a good wife, she'll take care of feeding, watering, vacuuming cat hair, emptying the litter box, etc. my wife and I have had a cat in the house for years, and no mice.

Had a similar problem several years ago. I bought a boxed snap trap, and that worked for my educated mouse.

When using peanut butter make sure to put some on underside of the trip. It forces their nose to knock the trip upward and off the set.
