.......in that time span, the squad playing this season is the worst by a wide margin. Pick any team in that era & they'll beat the 2022-2023 squad in a best of 3 every single time.

I can confidently say we are the worst power 5 basketball team in the United States.

And Jackson........if he's what the NBA is wanting.......then the NBA is a joke. He just stands around.

Blame Frank Martin, Ray Tanner, and 1/2 the fanbase who swore up and down that FM just needed more time......

Well I’m probably in minority but I was in favor of retaining Martin 1 more year simply because of the talent he had coming back. Think it couldve been one of his stronger teams at Carolina. As it stands now , we are devoid of talent. Really pulling for Paris but has his work cut out. We’ll see what kind of recruiter he is

It's embarrassing that anyone associated with that program draws a check. Top down. In saying that, we somehow managed to beat Clemson. With UK as a cherry on top. If we go 8-24 that'll be fine by me. Nothing invested.

Is it wrong that I want us to be really bad? For some reason, if we have to be bad, I wanna be BAD. I’d much rather go 0-12 in football than 2-10. At least the 0-fer is something you’ll talk about for years.

The ship has sailed on this team being anything remotely close to respectable. If I have to watch a train wreck, I want it to be spectacular.

Man, I love your honesty.

When I used to talk about Frank having more winning SEC seasons and first division finishes in his 11 seasons than we had in our first 20 SEC seasons before he arrived, I was told over and over by posters on this board that they didn't care. You either make the NCAA tourney or you don't. When I pointed out that before Frank's Final Four in 2017, in the 43 seasons since Coach McGuire's last ACC recruiting class graduated, we had 4 NCAA tourney trips and no wins, an average of one trip to the Dance every 10.75 years, I was told that didn't matter and at least the other 7 coaches didn't curse loudly on the sidelines.

So they have what they wanted. I hope they're happy and will have the decency to give Paris time. They've said they don't care if we win 0 games or 18 if we don't make the Dance. So this year shouldn't be be considered a downturn at all. And Paris doesn't curse at his players and in fact hugs them on the sidelines. So by their standards we are actually ahead of last season

Next year is going to be worse, unless something special happens in recruiting.
We lose a lot of our production this year. I don't know if the coach can survive 3 years of this type of BB.

Cousinard 10 ppg

Wildens Leveque 5&5 but he is better than any of our bigs
Devin Carter 14 ppg

that’s what these guys are doing this year. That would have been our starting 5 with GG, Chico Carter Josh Gray and Jacobi Wright as the first off the bench
When they fired FM they blew up the team. That is going to happen every time now with the Portal UNLESS the new coach is a somebody who will instantly attract talent through the portal.
I understand why FM was fired, he didn’t win enough. But he left a roster that was stocked with SEC level talent.
I want Parris to succeed but he failed to retain talent and he failed to attract talent.

it may have been time to part wit FM, but the devil we knew would have produced a competitive team.
if Parris doesn’t totally upgrade talent with portal and signings THIS OFFSEASON it will Same Stuff Different Day next year and I doubt he will make it to year 4

We should have hired Gregg Marshall. Instead Hyman extended Odom's contract and increased his buyout. Warchest! So we paid him a million to go away.

The next year we fired Odom (we should have hired Gregg Marshall) instead Hyman and hired Darrin Horn. (A coach his alma mater didn't want)

After 2 years it was clear Horn couldn't coach. Hyman kept him for 2 more years completely destroying the program. Remember 2-14 in the SEC and single digit points at halftime against UGa! So we paid him millions to go away.

Hyman hires Martin. (who Kstate didn't want) and once again We should have hired Marshall.

Martin has 1 NCAA trip and Tanner gives him a massive contract. Martin fails to build on it over the next 4 years including the worst season in school history. We don't fire him!

Then Martin has a solid 18-13 season. Has his most talented experienced team since the final 4 returning AND his best recruiting class coming in - and Tanner decides to fire him and pay him over 10 million to go away!

Then with Marshall available and the obvious choice and BJ available a favorite son as a choice. The idiots running USC hire an unproven, unwanted coach and pay him 10x his previous annual salary.

Its not going to get any better.

Exactly..FM should not have been hired. He should have been fired years ago. But not last year! Frank deserved to coach that team. I completely agree FM would likely have that team in the NCAA tournament this year. We now have a bad SoCon team. I see nothing from Paris that makes me believe he'll win here. WE are truely stupid. We are paying over 20 million dollars for this fiasco. At least we beat Clemp and KY.

No continuity, teamwork or plan on offense. Lots of mental lapses and lack of desire and smarts on defense.
Looks a lot like playground basketball to me.

Shoot, I think we should have bit the bullet, took the PR hit and hired Marshall after we let Frank go.

Who knows if Frank would have had us in the tourney this year. All we heard every season since the FF season was "Frank will have us in the tourney next year." It never again came to fruition. I don't see what benefit there would have been to giving him another season. If, by some chance he did get us in the tourney, it would lock us in for another decade of mediocrity.

Reading these posts and takes, its interesting with Frank Martin you can definitely argue there was a time to fire him and a time not to, and it changed, as his tenure continued. But NIL changed the landscape of basketball.

The impact of NIL on a coach like Frank Martin will be interesting to observe.

We struggled with in state recruiting and in state players especially in AAU under his regime. I believe one reason was it as because he ran such a clean program, and thus was technically at a dis advantage to the programs that were not so clean.

Now with NIL, there is not the need for all the cheating in recruiting and $$ to AAU. Makes me wonder does that level the playing field enough for a Coach like Frank Martin to start to having more sucess?

Cous has been recovering from knee surgery, He played significant minutes for the first time on Saturday and led Oregon in scoring with 27 points in their upset of then #8 Arizona.

Keyshawn Bryant was leading South Florida in scoring and rebounding in November and December before missing seven games with an injury. He's currently averaging 9 points, 5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game

Better tell Ray to pony up some real $$$$$$$$$$. That's the only way the mens BB team turns around.

And whatever you do, don't tell @GoCocksFight2021 that we might have to spend some big bucks. If you want to make big changes, you gotta pay up. It's that simple. GCF2021 will tell you we can't get a good coach to come here and I'm telling you what everyone has known since time began...... > money talks. We can have any college coach in the country - it's true - we just have to offer a big enough # in terms of $$$.

Until that happens, nothing will change.

I Have An Older Brother Who Coached Basketball for Many Years. Loves the Game. Duke Fan though.

He said to me, "I Have Been Watching South Carolina's Basketball Games and they Suck. Why did you get rid of Frank Martin?"
I said, "Martin Couldn't Capitalize on Our Final Four Run by Upgrading Our Recruiting. He Couldn't Recruit Enough Talent for us to Consistently Compete in the SEC." He talked GG Jackson to Flip from The Heels to Us."

But I Don't Know as Much about Baskeball as He and/or Many of You.

I do Hope for the Best for Coach Parris and Us Fans.

I'm still fine with Lamont. I don't really fault him for the total mess the team is in. This roster is abysmal. I knew we'd be bad but could never have imagined we'd be THIS bad. As others have noted, there are high school teams that could be this squad.

Just have to accept that this is a throwaway year. On the plus side, it's not possible for us to be worse next year, so there's bound to be signs of improvement.

Failing to capitalize on the Final Four run tells you all you need to know about Frank Martin's lack of motivation to advance the program. Golden opportunity which may never come around again - totally wasted!

Yep. That has led me to believe it was mostly just dumb luck for Frank that he ended up with Downey and Thornwell. Two players who just wanted to play for USC landed in his lap. He never could come anywhere close to replicating that success.

Granted, if we had kept Frank, we probably would have been ok most years, .500 or a little better. Our admin just had to decide if we were ok with only ever being ok. Given our history, maybe we should have been, but I don't fault them for wanting to try for more.
