I have to hand it to Dabo the Clown...

Even after losing to a Penn State team with an interim head coach and a number of opt outs to cap off a 6 loss season, Dabo the Clown was still quite the Pollyanna. He says Clemson is really a good team and just a few plays here and there, a few calls that went the other way and their season and record would have been a rousing success.

Well of course this is what he would say, I would expect no less from him or any other coach when the cameras are on after a game.

No, coaches who are in touch with reality say things like, "we have a lot of work to do in the off season, this game and this season didn't live up to the standard we set at ___________".

Dabo has apparently never heard the old phrase, "don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining".

I mean, they're both right. Both teams were a play or two/call or two in several games from having much different records, but that's not what their narrative needs to be... ESPECIALLY in public.

The natives are restless and I'm anticipating Dabo throwing them a Garrett Riley bone to go along with the song and dance.

I read a few weeks ago that it was a "done deal" that Riley was leaving. He had tried to get a HC job at some small Texas school, and that was their easy divorce.

He didn't get the job and now Dabo has to fire him.

Either way, let's hope he screws up the OC hire.

Right. As if a coach is going to do a postgame interview where he says something like "I'm just glad this sorry season is over." You highlight the positives, thank the players for giving it their all (even if some of them didn't), and move on.

When Venables and Elliott left, Dabo should have planned on leaving soon after. Dabo is a decent coach, probably about the same as Beamer. His biggest success came because he had two of the best coordinators in college football combined with back to back great QBs and a corps of NFL WRs. Once those coordinators moved on and the QB and WR talent graduated, Clemson reverted to what it had been for decades, a mid level SEC program in a weak ACC. Dabo is a cheerleader and narcissists who believes his own press. His hubris is going to be his undoing. The Clemson fanbase is spoiled rotten and they don't want to hear how good the team is when they just finished watching a 6 loss season.

NIL devastated Clemson and Auburn. Both programs found success in cheating and paying players when it was illegal. Once the bigger names could legally pay players, Clemson and Auburn had nothing special to offer top recruits.

As much as I hate myself for saying this, Dabo has grown on me over the years, and I think he’s a good person.

I saw an interview with coach Day of OSU. He is trying to get his son recruited at Clemson, and picked Dabo as the guy he most wants to coach his son.

We all know Herbstreit sent both his sons there, and Mark Richts son went to Clemson as a walkon.

Rivalry and internet banter aside, a lot of people look to him to coach their sons. That says a lot to me.

He’s been dead to me ever since he pre-arranged for that D-bag reporter to feed him a question so that he could go on a 10 minute bitchfest about the South Carolina-Clemson rivalry. We were on year two or three of our five-year win streak against them. Spurrier had made one of his typical a-hole remarks in the press that got Sweeney’s panties all in a bunch. “USC is in California, Carolina is in Chapel Hill, we’ve won so often this isn’t even arrival anymore, blah, blah, blah.” Crybaby! 😿

As long as he plays a Miserable ASheShe schedule he will win more games than he loses. And if he can throw in knocking off a battered SC team, he has a chance at the playoffs!
