Goes to show how much gusto our football program has lost. In the middle of their spring practice and this board is talking about other teams/conferences basketball and basket ball refs. I guess I'm not the only one who cares less because it's obvious we won't contend for anything more than a winning record under DH.

I beg to differ. It wasn't at a fever pitch but you could at least come on the board and discuss who looks better and who was the next big thing. I was here during the Pat White years. And the years before. This is the least interest showed since I've been on any of these message boards. And being god awful on the field for four years is the reason why in my opinion. Anyone care to guess what happened four years ago that had a huge impact on our program?
The problem is more to do with the lack of coverage the media gets so it's hard for fans to talk about a team they know nothing about. When there are daily updates, pictures, videos, etc. the fans have far more to talk about and the excitement builds. Also the spring break is great for the players but it's another reason fans lose interest.

Mismatched socks and four win seasons is plenty for me! Come to think of it his socks could match and I'd still not like him. As a coach at least. I bet he'd be a hoot to hang out with once the game was over though.

I am, and always have been, a football fan first, second, and third. By contrast, yesterday for the first time ever I was trying to search for future WVU basketball schedules.
The stagnancy of the football program under Stewart was cited as a reason for making a change, and that was a legitimate concern. However, the results on the field never made me lose excitement about WVU football in general--even though its direction at the time was not moving forward.
That isn't the case any more. The Holgorsen era is sapping some of my enthusiasm for WVU football and, judging by the original poster's words, I am not the only one. I no longer care as much about hearing the latest buzz coming out of spring football--regardless of when or how that information is disseminated. No matter what we read, the eventual results will be middling yet again...with more of the same blather by his gang of PR flacks about how he still needs a few extra years to build up the talent base for the alleged rigors of Big 12 play.
As a different poster on these boards first mentioned a few months ago, Luck appears to have made something far worse than a bad hire: He made a painfully mediocre one. Holgorsen isn't quite bad enough to get fired, but he also isn't good enough to get us anywhere. Eventually that isn't going to be a positive for business at a school which has been football-first for decades...either Vernon's business or the athletic department's.
For the record, Vernon, the Holgorsen-era malaise and the accompanying hijacking of the board in the last 2 years by his attack dogs like Keaton, Painted, wbgvwbgv, and Shipyard ARE the only reasons I have not rejoined the pay portion of your site. I find it hard to believe I am the only potential customer who has made the same decision.

This board is garbage if you are looking for real info and interaction with WVU fans (no offense Vernon). You need to be on the premium board sir. I think that is more what you are looking for. You won't regret it.

you use too many words, too long. but i agree with it all. the bgn takeover of the board (Keaton, Painted, wbgvwbgv,and Shipyard) doesn't help anything. but the real problem is football, under dana, just does not move the needle.

Let's be honest if it was intended as a dicking of our coach that would have been my opening statement. I have no trouble telling you Dana is mediocre at best as a football coach. And the fact that he still has a job is because Oliver Luck saw one bowl game and screwed the pooch is ironic. Just like the guys who hired Bill Stewart did.
This thread was started because our football team is in the middle of spring practice and the board set up to talk about WVU sports was more concerned with Duke basketball and racial slurs from a week ago. It's an indictment on the excitement level around our football program. Just because two or three idiots keep telling everyone it's never Dana's fault, doesn't mean it's not Dana's fault. As fpr the bandwagon statement, I'm still here talking WVU sports when most tothers are content with Duke and Kentucky. Do I have the positive outlook I had a few years ago? Nope, but I call it being a realist not bandwagon fans. A real bandwagon fan wouldn't be on here trying to see if we have anyone stepping up at key positions. They'd be talking about Duke and Kentucky because they didn't care about WVU cause we've been bad for a while now.

Oh I can be called bandwagon and coach hater for free. No need to pay to watch the premium board slobber all over Dana. If varying opinions were actually welcomed I'd consider the BLUE LOT. As for the can't afford I'm not sure if that was supposed to be an insult or not. But I'll gladly compare paychecks anytime you feel so inclined.
You're entitled to your opinion, I don't agree with it re: the HC at this point in time. I saw improvement last year (on the whole), Just renewed my season's tix and looking forward to seeing many returning players, and what looks like a good crop of new ones. Disappointed we lost Bradley but hey, he went for a promotion so I can't be angry...I'm amped up for football (particularly the Mountaineer variety) all year long, and enjoy hearing the updates of practice but when it starts to get cooler at night in late August...that's when it gets serious for this guy...
When will these people give up the Dana hate? Bottom line is that he's not a native so you don't like him...plain and simple.

Dana giving zero interest to the press. No press passes last weekend in Shepherdstown .
The program charges more to attend but gives less to the fans under Dana.
If you look at the press interaction between the football program and the press during spring ball it consists of a presser at the start of practice and one after the spring game.

If you're closing practice, you better have a really good reason. Like, changing your offense, for instance. I would welcome that. Tired of watching WVU play flag football like the rest of the Big 12. We should line up in a pro set, move some guys around before the snap and just savage these weak run defenses that we play year after year..but nooo...we have to play like Big 12 teams.
You almost got it right. I don't like watching 4-8 seasons followed by 4-8 season to the point that almost beating good teams and getting thumped by a barely above average team in a barely above average bowl is considered a success.
Admittedly I bought into the "we are much better" hype until I realized we beat 3 teams with a winning record last season. We showed improvement but I think just as much a key to our "success", was our competition was just as woeful as we were.
Local newspaper wasn't allow in the huddle either, nor to ride the team bus, and absolutely forbidden to take showers with the players.
