The last thing we need is Fox to go away.

Fox may go liberal as both Murdoch sons are very, very liberal. But Drudge is already reporting that a new network is being discussed to take its place and its talent (O'Reilly, Hannity, etc.). If the Murdoch's fire Shine, look for that network to take 10 - 12 months to form. Going to be interesting. Fox is a huge cash cow to Fox.

You mean fascism like we are seeing literally every week on liberal college campuses? Riot, threaten violence, assault people, destroy property all to stop people from speaking. I think in the U.S. libs have a monopoly on fascism. They have it down pat.

By the way, how about that lumber tariff? Canada subsidizing lumber to the tune of $1B per year. Who wins the battle? Trudeau or Trump? You make the call.

I dont think anyone wins this battle in the end truthfully, it has been ongoing for eons. You say we are dumping/ subsidizing, when the actual story is majority of Canadian forest is crown owned, and US forests are majority privately owned, and the FACT is that through countless tribunals alternating between US and Canadian majority on the board have ruled in Canada's 'favour' almost every single time! Who do you think the tarriff hurts? It hurts both...it sure as **** hurts the workers in the Canadian owned mills (Canfor, Interfor, and West Fraser cheifly) that dominate the Western/ Southwestern US. They are milling Canadian lumber almost exclusively, and it is thousands of jobs down there. Were I employed in the mills I would be none too happy with a tariff...playing the freak out game is going to work for Trump, and by extention the US on this you feel?

I am all in favor of free trade but it must be fair trade. Neither side should be providing subsidies on any products beit lumber or dairy or any other product. Jobs lost on one side likely mean jobs gained on the other.

I agree wholeheartedly...so if you can explain the subsidy lumber wise have at it, there actually is none as decided numerous times before, by people rooting in American interest 50% of the time. As for Dairy, those fellas in Wisconsin are actually more heavily subsidized than the ones here. I can provide a link if you care to argue it PAX, let me know...why he is barking up this tree on lumber and dairy I have no idea...the deals are actually quite fair, although not quite 'free' as per our agreement negotiated long ago....

Looks like the lumber agreement expired in 2015. Wall Street Journal article. As you know, WSJ is a strong free trade paper.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-...ff-on-canadian-soft-lumber-imports-1493075372

The dairy controversy:

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...-not-the-challenge-for-u-s-dairy-trudeau-says

U.S. dairy groups appealed to Trump for help after Canada recently introduced a new policy that gives the country’s producers an incentive to buy domestic supplies of ultra-filtered milk, a concentrated ingredient used to boost protein content in cheese and yogurt. American producers say the policy violates trade agreements and exacerbates a glut of milk on the American side of the border.

The good news is that NAFTA will get renegotiated and hopefully get to something fair to both sides.

Also known as A LOAD OF **** perpetuated by your illustrious leader...and yet it's not fair? Oh how you wish Cons were in power here PAX...they would give you what you want (5 billion the last asshat PM here gifted you even though we won on all softwood disputes), and we'd take it in the hoop...not this time...good luck Donnie!!!

We have around an $11B trade deficit with Canada. Trump wanted NAFTA renegotiated and your Prime Minister bended to his will. Like it or not, we are the big dog and Canada is the tail. BTW, your savior Obama stopped Keystone. Trump got it done. I think Canada will get far more benefit from Keystone and other potential pipelines than these two trade squabbles. You should thank Trump.

Do you see how overconfident you are in a complete fly by night regime? You are lucky Freeland is friendly with Tillerson imo...

We will get a fair trade deal done, Canada has no other choice. Like I said, we are the dog and you are the tail. You may not like it, but facts are facts. That's why your feckless leader was so willing to acquiesce. Even he is smart enough to understand this.

The mills are irrelevant. But as the article I posted clearly states, the trump administration is two steps away from imposing tariffs, like it or not. The far bigger issue is NAFTA. It will be renegotiated and changes will be made. But as in all negotiations, one side usually has the advantage. In this case it is the United States.

You should be breathing a sigh of relief that Trump decided not to completely discard NAFTA.

The mills are 'irrelevant' because you know nothing about them, and even better i should thank my lucky stars that he decided to re-negotiate NAFTA. Bring it on! The original Can/US deal was better regardless, he will want to avoid that, however if all else fails this will be the fall back by trade law. You are looking seriously foolish here PAX. Give up...

Lol. You didn't even read the article showing your ignorance. The tariffs will be imposed. But more importantly NAFTA will be renegotiated after the acquiescence of your dear leader. The big dog wants fed.

The Trump administration is taking retaliatory action against Canada over a decades-old trade dispute, moving to impose a 20% tariff on softwood lumber that is typically used to build single-family homes, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said Monday in an interview.

Mr. Ross said the tariff would be applied retroactively and imposed on Canadian exports to the U.S. of about $5 billion a year. He said the dispute centers on Canadian provinces that have been allegedly allowing loggers to cut trees down at improperly subsidized costs and sell them at lower prices.

The decision is preliminary and the Commerce Department will need to make a final determination. After that, the U.S. International Trade Commission will also need to find that the U.S. industry has suffered injury before any tariff is levied. But even a preliminary decision has immediate real-world consequences, by discouraging importers from buying lumber from Canada.

Renegotiating Nafta's Rules of Origin

U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who was selected by President Trump to help shape his “American First” trade policy, talked to the WSJ about his timeline for negotiations on Nafta and the rules of origin. Photo: Madeline Marshall/The Wall Street Journal

How Long Will the Nafta Renegotiation Take?

Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross told The Wall Street Journal that the renegotiation of the Nafta pact with Canada and Mexico may happen by December 2017. WSJ's Gerald F. Seib gives us more insight from the meeting with Mr. Ross. Photo: Madeline Marshall for WSJ
“We tried to negotiate a settlement but we were unable,” just as previous administrations were also unable to resolve the dispute with Canada, Mr. Ross said, adding that the Trump administration has notified Canada of its decision.

In the lead-up to the decision on lumber duties, U.S.-Canada trade watchers said the Trump administration’s move on timber could serve as an opening gambit in laying out what he wants Canada to put on the table as part of the North American Free Trade Agreement renegotiations, which have yet to begin in earnest.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said last week that when it comes to trade irritants, from lumber to dairy, he would “present the facts” to Washington and aim to work constructively on making improvements to Nafta.

The trade row between the U.S. and Canada over lumber dates back decades, although the countries reached a standstill through a bilateral deal struck in 2006 that stopped the U.S. from imposing additional duties. Under that arrangement, which expired in late 2015, Canadian forest producers agreed to accept either a quota on U.S.-bound exports or pay a tax on goods shipped to the U.S. in exchange for no tariffs.

You're feeling of helplessness and insecurity is showing. There's an old adage went in the hole, stop digging. NAFTA will be renegotiated. But you should take comfort in the fact that Mexico will suffer significantly more than Canada.

So sad to see someone as insecure as you. You may want to take some meds. It may help you. The simple answer is tariffs will be imposed, and NAFTA will be renegotiated. Sit back, relax and accept your fate.

You trying the Trump freak angle or something? You can't answer to the concept as presented, and resort to 'tarriffs will be imposed',...I am quite relaxed. We have always been just fine and will continue to be just fine...assemble your all star crew for the big win! LOL!

Wrong yet again. You know nothing about Fox. Their hard news is middle to slightly left. Shep Smith is a lefty. Chris Wallace, a registered Dem, just like his father. Brett Baier is very middle of the road. Their opinion shows certainly lean right. But not their hard news.

CNN on the other hand is hard left on both.

Prove me wrong. Shep Smith is a liberal. Wallace a registered Dem. All true. Only Brett Baier is not ideological compared to these two, although Wallace does a good job of being fair just as Tim Russert did.
