Our 3-point D isn’t terrible… we just let them shoot today because they were like 26% from deep coming into the game. When we play teams that are more known for their shooting, I guarantee the 3pt defense will be emphasized.
Man. I give you that to a degree, but when I see three shots where we don’t have a defender on the same side of the court I gotta think we ****** up a little bit.

I thought the same thing: free throws and three-point defense. And letting them get offensive rebounds, though some of that was due to long ones after three-point attempts.

Didn’t get to see much of this due to my lovely work right now but yes it’s starting to concern me.

On the season we are at like 73%

That's like the D-1 avg.

I think the expectation going forward should be just that. An average shooting free throw team. One that will have games a bit above that avg and one that will also have games below that.

Problem with that is they shoot 27% because teams get up on them Pope played pack line and paid for it
It was pathetic defense

FWIW the rebounding isn't awful. We allow teams to rebound 24.8% of their misses. Good for 32nd in the nation. Today UL only rebounded 22.7% of their misses. That was fine.

I'd be more concerned that we are 331st in forcing turnovers on Defense.
Never was a priority under Cal. Was hoping this would change under Pope. But we are somehow worse LOL.

We are not that kind of defensive team make up.

This team has to play team defense and help each other.

We have been doing that for halves.

Not tonight.

And I think our main concern is not having a big who is competent. Garrison and Williams have their moments but are very raw. With that said physical teams is our weak point and will end our season at some point. I love this team and the heart and fight they play with but we are at best a Sweet 16 team. SEC and their physicality will be a problem. With what Pope walked into and having to build this team in 2 weeks I am thrilled with that.

Free throws have worried me the entire season. As we found out many times with Cal, and hell even Nazr against overtime, it's a recipe for a tournament loss.

I think statistically we’ll be pretty average. I do feel like in crunch time these guys are pretty clutch.

I don't know if I agree about that. There's certainly guys on this team that can force turnovers.
There are a couple.

But this is not a lock down defensive team.

We are gonna score.

We just have to be good enough on D to not let it get out of hand.

Letting a below average offensive team score 85 points on your home floor is just terrible.

It should be every game they got easy ones today.

Over our last 6 games, we're at 70%, and that's with two of those six being over 80%. Everyone is shooting pretty well except Williams, Garrison and most disturbingly, Butler. We NEED Butler to be out there for 30+ minutes and especially to close games out. He's shooting 63%.
