To have a discussion many on here do not want to have. As we all know (even if we won’t admit it) coach K isn’t getting any younger, and one day we will be forced to get a new coach. There is many moving parts to this
-keep it in the family or not?
-Best available?
-do we stay relevant since duke is K and we never won a game before the 80s
- how long of a leash does the new guy get?

With all that in mind I think we could have a decent list. I think we take brad Stevens obviously but if we keep it in the family go to capel or Snyder if he leaves the pros. Don’t touch with a 9 foot pole- Dawkins, Amaker, Brey

SCHEYER may be being groomed for that inevitability....i say family and that keeps the bench structure the way it is w/ former players in those spots

I give K four years to watch his grandson play and coach him then, Scheyer will probably take over with K’s grandson taking the same position Nolan came to coaching with .

I know this is probably sarcasm but the day it really happens is going to be a very emotional time. For many, he’s the only coach we’ve EVER known.

Very emotional. Hopefully the K naysayers (even among Duke fans about some of his strategy), understand this....The man has done it the longest, the right way and consistently so as well! OFC

Agree with everything you said Hart. I haven’t ever spoken to a Duke fan though that hadn’t had anything critical to say about K. We all know he’s the best, but it’s natural to say things.
Some on message boards choose to not say anything for the arguing it causes.

In a perfect world, you keep it in the family. I’d prefer it to do it that way but I’m not sure that’s the best route. It’s also worth stating the obvious and that’s the fact that Coach K wasn’t in the family when he was hired. Duke wasn’t Duke at that time but the principle still applies.

If we stay in the family, give me Hurley. I like his fiery approach and he has coaching pedigree.

If we take the best available, and he is willing to come, give me Brad Stephens 10 out of 10 times.

Who is a naysayer? You won’t find a single college basketball fan that doesn’t agree he’s at the very least 2nd of all time.

PISGAH there's been plenty of naysayers here in the past (hey I've been guilty as well) of the following-

1/K goes after too many OADs
2/K should play more zone
3/K doesnt develop his bench
4/Blah, blah, blah.....
5/K's not as sharp as he used to be

Except at times in much more venomous tones. Thats who I am referring too, and many of those same folks are probably going to compare the successor in unfavorable ways to K if Duke doesnt pick up where K left off..

There are others (not I because I THINK HES THE BEST!) who would say its Jonn Wooden and Adolph Rupp(UK crowd) or say Wooden and Dean Smith (Cheaters crowd) for top 2. Surely you know that, because so many despise K out of jealousy.

Oh and for the record I WOULD CONSIDER Dawkins and/or Ammaker....

Man that’s not being a naysayer. Nobody says he’s not the best ever but he’s not perfect. I’d like some things to change but overall I’m not going to complain

Brad Stevens. Arguably the best strategical coach in all of basketball at this moment. That's easy if we can get him. He once said he wanted the job

You may want to check your Duke history. Duke made the final four and played Kentucky for the championship in 1978 under Foster.

Where did you see that....that he wanted the job?

There was an article once where someone ‘close’ to Stevens said that Duke and/or Carolina would be the only two jobs that could ever tempt to bring him back to the college game.
