Also present. I can't comment because I have not seen Maine South play this year. My only comment is that Maine South could have issues with Palatine's physical style of play. With that being said, they did just take out LWE and played Loyola tough. Palatine's toughness is usually what wears teams down though. I think it's going to come down to who can run the ball better after seeing the weather. That should neutralize both teams in the air which I think plays more favorable to Palatine. If Oles was playing, I would say PHS all the way. However he is not, so I really lean towards a toss up. Really look forward to watching it. Should be a fun one!

I posted on your other thread (other 8a semifinal) a couple days ago:

"With Oles, I think MS would be in serious trouble...

But regardless, their D doesn't appear to be anything like Palatine faced against LT or SCE. So Palatine will be able to score some points and their defense is better than people seem to think. I'll say Palatine 24-20."

The weather might help equalize your starting QB vs. our backup - should be a great game!

I think the physicality of the Palatine defense is what wins out here. Particularly if the weather is a major factor like it looks to be. Its windy even on the calmest days at Maine South which can and has effected passing games in the past.

In the end I think Palatine gets them here.

I hate wind. Palatine defense is scary good. Just like the MS offense. Should be a great game. My prediction is the winner brings home the big trophy!

I'll echo what some of the pro-Palatine bunch have said...wind takes away effective passing game for both teams..only quick, hard thrown slants, pop passes, etc. So then, it all comes down to who either A) runs the ball better; or B) stops the run more effectively. As Quags57 has said often...defense wins championships... so I think (B) is going to be the key and I think Palatine will do it better than Maine South.

Palatine faced a run crazy team in SCE last week, and they gave up 88 yards and a score on the first drive as they adjusted. After that, zero points and 117 total yards of offense the rest of the way. If the can do likewise tomorrow they win, if they cannot Maine South wins.

Outside of that, Palatine has just answered the bell every time this year when challenged. Numerous 4th quarter drives by Stevenson resulting in no points; winning an old fashioned war of attrition type game against Fremd; Trading score for score with Barrington for a half and then blasting them in the third quarter; losing Zach Oles on the second offensive possession against ND and not folding and cruising to a 34 pt win; the EPIC overtime win at Lyons that will live on in the annals of PHS football; and having SCE do what they do and shove it down their throat at the start of the game, but stymieing them the rest of the way..EVERY time they've risen to the challenge and won, and there's no real reason to think that can't happen again tomorrow.

Burgers are okay. Other than that I usually don't eat there. I'm happy you enjoyed that sammich at Barrington!

You guys have had an amazing year! It is really too bad that Oles went down. I would have liked to have faced him. Let's hope for a great game where everyone comes out healthy. Good luck.

If everything else goes the same in yesterday's game and we have Oles (and Grochowski doesn't have half his left arm in a cast) there's NO DOUBT in my mind we win that game. That said, they had to play with the team they had and you guys won.

And I'll apologize in advance if I come off as an *** here, but being a 1981 graduate of Maine East, I just can't bring myself to wish you guys "good luck"...sorry...

I too would have liked to see your team at full strength. Anyway what a great senior class you guys had. Lots of studs graduating.
It's okay about the "good luck". I get it.
How is #33 doing? That was scary!

I didn't see what happened to #33 - just saw him trying to get up and off the field (twice). Hope he's ok.

I didn't understand our offensive calls in the first half. Took way too long to figure out that we couldn't run the ball toward #75.

And last 2 games we couldn't seem to mix run/pass effectively.

And last 2 games we couldn't seem to mix run/pass effectively.

With Oles out, everyone ganged up on the run game..DJ threw 43 passes yesterday, which shouldn't be happening.

Quote from Tribune article:

"But the day belonged to Maine South's defense, which intercepted Palatine's DJ Angelaccio three times and forced a turnover on downs on its own 2-yard line in the second quarter. Angelaccio made his third start in relief on star quarterback Zach Oles, who broke his collarbone in the first round.

The Hawks' plan? "Being tough, stopping their run was pretty much it," said Jarvis, who is committed to Michigan State as an offensive guard.

"Without Oles in the game, we had to make them one-dimensional," Inserra said.

Mission accomplished: Angelaccio threw 41 passes and the Pirates managed 34 yards on 21 carries."

And as I said to MS4EVER above, if Oles had been healthy I think we would have won this game...first off, MS intercepted DJ three times in the game while Oles had two interceptions all season, and with them worrying about Zach, it would have opened up our run game. We would have been closer to our average offensive output; meanwhile...Maine South was averaging 41 pts per game coming into this, and had 14 pts with 8 minutes to go in the game...and I watched the replay on NFHS and that TD before half was iffy at best on being inbounds..so outside of the QB scrambling and that one early TD pass they gave up they did their job. Star tailback had 59 yards rushing and was non-factor; outside of the early 41 yd TD pass the QB had 72 yards passing the rest of the game...it was the scrambling he did we didn't stop well.

MS was a very beatable team, but they just didn't do it...which is sad because when Palatine was healthy and at top form they were unstoppable. Ask Barrington; unbeaten at 7-0 and Palatine scores TDs on their first 7 possessions, Sigh, what could have been.....

They were running at Jarvis to tire him out. They accomplished that goal from what I saw, but he still doesn't move because he is so mammoth.

I must be missing something, I watched the LWE game on Comcast and saw this one live, and I'm not sure what the big deal is about this guy except for his size. On defense he stands straight up and doesn't get penetration, on offense he got called for holding once but I saw him do it at least three other times.

Remember it's high school football. If you take up two gaps, that's a game changer. Sure he may have gotten called for holding, but he dominated the LOS. I saw a number of times that he flattened our d-lineman.

You are missing something. Please don't let your bitterness get in the way and cloud your vision. He is a great OL and should do well at the next level. He has offers from MSU,Arkansas,Auburn,Michigan,Florida and so on. Obviously he is doing something right.

O he is a big man. Lined up across from him this weekend. He didn't try on every play, but when he did it was hard to get past.

Interesting perspective from someone who actually played against him on Saturday. From the few times I focused on the line, I saw you and Illka hold your own, so I stand by what I said. (Bodes well that you, Salinas and Danielson are back next year BTW)

And my bitterness comes from things like the cheap shot #54 took to Cortez Hogans head on the kickoff
(55:00 mark if you have access: http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/events/ihsa/fef371ac6f ). That QB scrambled much more successfully in the second half, while Palatine's stud middle linebacker was sitting on the bench with his brains scrambled. Good to watch his Hawk teammates high five and slap his back when he comes back to the sideline...classy....

Are you referring to the same Cortez Hogans who decleated our #43 on the opening kickoff after the whistle blew?

Yep, the same one..except it was while everyone was still blocking and it wasn't to the head...tough but legal..That's on there too at the 1:02 mark. Your guys pops right back up like it was no big deal and runs off, so he must have still had his cleats....difference between a shot to the body and a shot to the head.......

But it WAS after the whistle. Not legal
So what determines a cheap shot is whether or not someone gets hurt?

What are you trying to accomplish by bringing this up?

You should take a class from Smitty.

I brought it up because MS4EVER told me not to be bitter; I was just saying why I had some lingering bad feelings after the game. Cortez's hit was not late, it stood out because it was on the trailer and away from most of the other players. Your guy popped right up and ran off. Our guy took a forearm shiver to the face at full speed and staggered twice before dropping like a ragdoll right on the field. You're trying to defend the indefensible... I'm done, not gonna comment on this anymore. I stand fully behind everything I've said and am not going to say anymore.

First of all Cortez's hit was questionable at best and was unwarranted as he was not part of the play. A cheap shot? Only he knows.
Tough football play... maybe.

The shot he took... watch the play carefully over and over. Cardinal rule of special team play is you better be paying attention. He was not. He got clocked.
A cheap shot? Only 54 knows.
Tough football play.... yes.

Neither of these plays have anything to do with anything.

Palatine had a tremendous season, and were BY FAR the most physical defense we have seen.

Congratulations on a great season!

Good idea. Again nice year for the Pirates.
