I Want Beamer To Stay

I hope Beamer has the insight to know that he needs help to
compete effectively in the 'new' SEC and that coaching changes
likely will be needed.
I would like to see him stay as well. However, I think he has done himself in with his OC and OL hires.

Our method of hiring and firing a coach every five years has proven to be ineffective so I am doubtful a change will make much of a difference.

Look who we're competing with this offseason for coaches. We can't get into that market. Beamer stays. Shula goes.

Agree on Shula. Have said i think it would be difficult to justify firing Beamer one year removed from last season.

BUT, I think each year we will be competing with "better" positions, no matter the year.

Imo, we need to accept that. We're not getting a top 4 or 5 type candidate. No "hot name" for us. We need to go after a solid, small splash guy.

With a head-coaching history of success - not a re-tread from a big school... unless they've been through the Nick Saban school for wayward head coaches. Like Kiffin did.

Agree, but his OC hire has to be proficient with run game scheming and outsmarting defenses.
Not sure we can persuade or compensate a big time OC hire.
Buster Faulkner would be great but not sure he would leave GT. So, maybe Drew Cronic from Navy via Lenoir Rhyne is an option we could get.

Edit
Also, look at Travelle Wharton as OL coach.

There are good Head Coaches at non-P4 schools. Donati will get us a good one. I have no doubt about that. We have put on a clown show since Spurrier. We hired a proven, failure Head Coach (Muschamp). We then follow that unbelievable hire with hiring a position coach who had never even been an OC or DC much less a Head Coach, hoping he could duplicate Dabo's and Frank Beamer's success. Did the numbskulls not realize that there's a world of difference between coaching in the ACC and the SEC (see Jimbo Fisher)? Did the numbskulls not realize he could be more like his mother than his father? To paraphrase Don King: "Only at the University of South Carolina". I really, really believe Jeremiah Donati will straighten out this mess.

I won’t be sad to see Beamer go as things stand but this will not be the year to try to hire someone else. Too many better jobs open and more likely coming. That’s one of the reasons Muschamp got the job. Don’t need a repeat of that.

He gets next year but its highly unlikely to turn the tide around when a nightmare scenario breaks out in year 5 like this one. Thats when things are supposed to be at an optimal level. That is the total opposite now.

Assuming all other factors are equal (win with this coach/win with the next coach or suck with this coach/suck with the next coach), I'd just as soon keep Beamer as well. I think he can be an effective manager-coach as long as he can overcome his extreme loyalty to his assistant coaches. Unfortunately, he has dug quite a hole for himself by not holding those assistants accountable for obvious poor production in the past. So much so, that it will now be more difficult to hire a quality coordinator to come in for what may be a one-year gig.

But this doesn't feel like a great year to be looking for a new head coach. So unless Donati is sure that he can make us punch above our weight, I think I'd rather roll the dice with Beamer another year than take a chance on another underwhelming hire.

Yes- agree with all this. I like/liked Beamer...but he had no business getting this job. At this point...I want him to stay but only if he hires a competent OC. SB has revealed a lot with the type of OCs he has brought in. He obviously keeps looking for that right fit on his terms which seem to be most importantly not wanting to hire his future replacement by going after a more talented or innovative OC. Until he goes all in with pursuing that type of hire (a young talent...who may not last a full 3-4 years) we are destined for 6-6 years despite all the positive movement and tools around the football program and university.

He doesn't have that insight. Would love for him to prove me wrong.

Not just you, but I've seen this sentiment before.

Keep Shane if only he changes.... something.

I think the option is keep Shane as he is (not changing) or not. He'll be better if he fixes some things. But is he going to?

Why would anyone other than his wife and his assistants want him to stay?

I really don't think he has any choice but to drop Shula. I don't think he would of his own accord, but I can't envision a scenario where Shula comes back.

There is literally not one single thing to hang your hat from this year's offense. Absolutely nothing to build on. Running, passing, receiving, blocking.

And Shula has known it for a while, but he has made no changes. Why?
Have to assume he doesn't have the ability to be an OC at this level.

I think one reason he hired Shula -was that Sellers was familiar with him, and was comfortable with that choice- why throw a 'wrench' on Sellers plate when he only had one year left.

You'll be more than lucky to reach 6-6 this year.

Beamer has generally recruited well- with several high profile 5 star athletes.
No better than the past 4 coaches. In fact, the RBs (which historically we've been good) are not great by any stretch and ironically our PK isn't good for the 2nd year in a row.
