#9 Downs Tri-Valley (9-2) @ #5 Wilmington (10-1) - Downs has have something going if they were able to knock off Rockridge, and they lost two close ones in the regular season. They are averaging 10.9 PA a game to Wilmington's 8. The two teams are familiar with each other with Wilmington leading the series 2-1. Downs shouldn't be shell shocked with the Harley's and fireworks, but I still think that with the way Wilmington is rolling on offense and supported by a tough defense there is no way that DTV goes into Reents Stadium and comes away with a win. I like Wilmo to win easily, however it won't be a running clock. Wilmo 42 DTV 14

EPG wins Wilmo gets a home Semi, Farmington wins then Wilmo will travel for semis.

4A

#5 Coal City (9-2) @ #1 Lombard Montini (11-0) - Coal City's offense looked good against Dixon. Balanced Pass and run attack. However, their pass and run attack is no different than the level of competition that Montini has seen all year. Plus, Montini has weapons on offense as well, mainly their stud QB. Montini also a very tough place to play, I was impressed by atmosphere I saw there last year. I hate to see an ICE team go out, but I think the end of the road is here for the Coalers. Wilmington will run away and hide in this one. Downs was able to pull the upset Saturday but mainly because RockRidge fell apart. Downs was just steady the entire game. It didn't matter who won that matchup though. Wilmington was always going to walk in this game. As well as the Semi-final and that doesn't matter who makes it there either. Cats 42 Downs 7

The Coalers with a big win in a back and forth game with Dixon. The defense for the Coalers has been struggling pretty hard lately. They are talented but seem to be all over the place against the better teams on their schedule. That being said they picked it up on offense and had a ton of big plays. Montini is going to be a tough task for the Coalers. Especially at Montini. Not sure the Coalers have enough offense to keep up with these guys. They have a punchers chance but they are going to have to get some turnovers on defense to keep it close. Montini 49 Coalers 21

#9 Downs Tri-Valley (9-2) @ #5 Wilmington (10-1) - I was expecting to see RR playing here against Wilmo but not too shocked. Downs has had a good run the past few years. That being said the Cats will roll here and roll al the way to a championship. Really don't see anyone staying within three TDs of Wilmo. Cats 56 Downs 7

#5 Coal City (9-2) @ #1 Lombard Montini (11-0) - This is definitely the most effective balanced Coaler offense I can remember seeing. Unfortunately the defense has shown a pattern of bad tackling but has flashed signs of being really good. Need to bring the defensive A game Saturday. Montini is a horse and the most talented team in 4A. They will score a lot of points but give up a bunch also. This will be a shootout and CC will need to be mistake free. Coalers with the huge upset in a shootout Coalers 49 Montini 47

Montini just has dudes everywhere. Not really any weakness to exploit. Just big and fast and, oh by the way, a dual threat QB who is top 5-10 nationally in his class. I remember wondering last year how many of the Wilmo kids would have cracked the starting 22 for Montini - answer was probably not very many, and Wilmo had a talented team they brought up there. I will echo the earlier sentiment about the atmosphere up there. It was a cool set up, and the flyover was awesome, but the PA guy and the techno music gets annoying.
Would LOVE to see CC pull off the upset, but I have a hard time believing they will be able to get enough stops. Montini 56, Coalers 28. I hope I'm wrong.

TV @ Wilmo. Yeah, Wilmo is playing great right now. They have been beyond impressive on both sides of the ball. TV did come to our place and get us back on 11/5/22 by a score of 28-21, and I don't think a lot of people expected that outcome. If I recall, we had a bunch of turnovers and then TV came back from down a score, but I might be mistaken. Wilmington hasn't lost a home game since then. If Wilmington jumps on them early, it will be a cruise control game, but if Wilmo lets them hang around it could get interesting. I do not think the clock will run in this one, but if we win the turnover battle, it might. I will say 35-13, Cats move on.

Pretty straight forward this week. One running clock for and one against.

Coal City (9-2) @ Montini (11-0) - The Coalers offense played extremely well at Dixon and will need to bring it again for a third week in a row. The Broncos, as usual, are loaded on both sides of the ball and can put up a lot of points in a hurry. CC needs to survive the initial onslaught in Q1 and then get a couple Montini turnovers if they are going to advance. Montini 48 CC 17

Tri-Valley (9-2) @ Wilmington (10-1) - Not surprised in the least to see the Vikings coming to town. They are hard nosed, well coached, and have a lot of big game experience. However, this game is at Wilmington and that's a whole different animal. It's ALL Cats early and often as they punch their ticket to the Semis. Wilmo 42 TV 14

In other news, Wilmo has a home and home with Lena-Winslow starting next year.

This is really cool, but maybe like a year too late. We shall see. Graduation is gonna hit the Cats pretty hard next year, but with Reents and staff they usually find a way.

Coalers seem to struggle stopping the run and Montini has too many athletes on the field. Coal City may land a few punches but in the it Montini by 4+ scores.

Wilmington is on a roll and are piling up the yardage and the defense does not allow many points. TV always seems to find a way to put up points and defense is solid this year as well. But Wilmington will be too much for the Vikings. I'm already looking forward to the 2026 matchup!
