Lets get the chat going boys! What do you all think is going to happen? Sucks that we have two of our teams matched up in round 1 but I guess the positive is that we are guaranteed to have at least one team go in to the second round.

I'll go ahead and say
Wilmo over Lisle- Cats won at Benedictine earlier in year on a Sunday night, Lisle won't be able to hang at Becker Field

CC easy- What is the better scenario for the Coalers, play or take the week off completely?

Marengo over Manteno- Marengo is just too good. Their losses were to RB and Sterling HS, two very tough opponents. Might be close but I can't see Manteno pulling this out.

Peotone over Hall- Probably the best matchup on paper and should be the best game. Both teams appear similar. Plus Wilmo still has a little distaste in their mouth from the 4 or 5 times that they played Hall. I'll take the ICE team and they are at home. Close tough game though.

Who will make some noise in the postseason?

WIlmo will end up playing at Byron in quarters. Can't wait.

CC got a great draw in their quad. St. Francis and IC quarters and Semis will be tough.

Peotone honestly their quad looks favorable. Princeton is probably the best team in their quad but I would say a lot of those teams are closely matched and anything can happen. A lot of familiar teams to Wilmo in this quad.

Even if Manteno wins first round they then would have the task of playing RB then IC......ouch

Agree with your picks. I have no clue what Hall brings, but, I do remember what happened in '98. Was uuuugly.

We played Hall in the first round of the playoffs and got thumped 47-6. Hung tough for a quarter and then the flood gates opened. Fun times.

Hall was a force for awhile there......I'm sure they are still tough but I like the Tone at home

Ok here we go. Playoff time. 5 teams qualify and we get to see how good these teams really are.
# 16 Chicago Phoenix (3-4) @ #1 Coal City (9-0): Coalers take care of business in the regular season and get the best possible North draw they could want for the first two rounds. Phoenix is bad real bad. This strike won’t be settled tomorrow and it’s a Coaler forfeit win CC 1 Phoenix 0. Non forfeit: CC 67 Phoenix 0

#14 Lisle (5-4) @ #3 Wilmington (8-1):
Rematch here. Wilmo handled them up at Benedictine a few weeks ago and it will be a lot of the same here. I see Wilmington rolling. Wilmington 34 Lisle 13

#9 Spring Valley Hall (6-3) @ #8 Peotone (6-3):
Big game for the Blue Devils. They were able to get a home game and they will need to use it to their advantage. Hall isn’t the dominant force they were years ago but they are still solid. I like the Tone in this one. Peotone 27 Hall 21

#10 Manteno (5-4) @ #7 Marengo (5-4):
A hot second half of the season and a boat load of playoff points helped the Panthers avoid a really low seed. 4-1 in their last 5. Got to stop Finn Schumer, he’s a load at running back. I was originally going to pick Marengo but had my mind changed by Mr Shepkowski (Coal City’s camera man)while chatting in line at Berkots, I’m going with Manteno. Manteno 35 Marengo 34

Wouldn’t a forfeit help CC extremely? They get the win and it doesn’t count as a home game. Could very likely help them play all their playoff games at home.

I’m confused on the forfeit doesn’t count as a home game issue. Trying to follow along on a different thread. I need someone to explain it to me like I’m 9 years old :D

I just read it yesterday on ihsa website. It was CPS forfeit scenarios FAQ. Said clearly that round 1 forfeit will not count as a home game. I’ll try to find the link.

Basically it won’t count to their home game count. So if two teams meet in semis and each had a home game every round except the rd 1 forfeit the team that had the forfeit would get to host.

Really what you want is a road game early, if you are a high (#1) seed... because it's just the fact that high seeds host unless the opposing team has hosted less games than the high seed... all things being equal, it pays off to win on the road...

Forfeit win would be equal to a road win in the scenario. The criteria going forward is higher seed that has hosted the fewest games.

Well with all the contending teams getting Forfeit wins round one in that bracket then it helps Richmond-Burton and Coal City the most

Peotone have their RB healthy?

If so I’ll take them over Hall.
I’ll take Wilmington to win, but Manteno loss.
CC win, obviously.

Welcome to the Playoffs!!!!

#16 Chicago Phoenix @ #1 Coal City... The three win conference champions nightmare... The mythical Phoenix may regenerate, but I doubt this Phoenix can regenerate fast enough to stop the Coalers' fire - if it ever makes it out of the fire...repeated pickaxes to the head might be difficult to stop. If this is played, yikes!!! I figure the Coalers dress the freshmen to play the second half... The freshmen might score 40 after the running clock...But after forfeiting some 50+ volleyball games and ruining soccer for CPS schools, I just don't see the strike being resolved in time to save the game...I'll take the under with the 1-0 forfeit...or does that invalidate the line...

#10 Manteno @ #7 Marengo... Did something strange happen to the Kishwaukee River conference? Woodstock & Woodstock North played home & home, and Johnsburg & RB played home & home...Marengo only had losses to 5A 9-0 Sterling and RB, but their only win over a playoff team was over 1A Chicago Hope? Lisle beat Harvard, who was 4-5 from this conference. Johnsburg might have gotten in but for playing RB twice...Panthers have been on a roll, and have played arguably a better schedule with two wins against five playoff teams. The run defense has improved. The upset here is possible...Panthers in a shootout...

#9 Spring Valley Hall @ #8 Peotone... I had court in Ottawa Thursday morning and a big block of time to kill before a meeting in Joliet at 3:30, so I went touring stadiums...Ottawa nice, LP awesome, St. Bede was cool, Hall was your typical successful 3A team's added on and added on to stadium - pretty nice. But the Red Devils get to visit the Blue Devils nasty stadium this weekend - there's a good chance the leading tackler will be the grass...Hall lost to Sterling Newman, @ Princeton, and @ Kewanee. If Ballmer is healthy, the Blue Devils have a real shot at a deep run...they beat a pair of 2 win 5A schools, lost to CC with Ballmer, beat Lisle without Ballmer...defense good against Manteno & Wilmo...I'll take the Blue Devils at home in the trident war...

#14 Lisle @ #3 Wilmington... Ahhh, conference rivals. Not surprising that they announced a Friday night kickoff before the end of the unwatchable playoff tv show...:p I don't think the analysis has changed at all from their first game, except … oh yeah, Becker Field this time. Lions lit up a dejected Bulldog defense running out the string last week, 'Cats shut down the wounded Devil attack. I predict another solid Wildcat victory...:D

First of all: Wilmatucky, ur handle is gold!

Ok, so Coalers and Kewanee (playing Chicago Ag Sciences) win by forfeit.

2nd round game is in CC. Gotta like the Coalers in that one.

Wheaton St Francis & Genoa/Kingston both win their games, and their second round game is in Wheaton due to seeding.

If Wheaton then wins, they've played 2 home games. Coalers would only have one. So the 3rd round game is in CC?

If Genoa wins then they get the 3rd round game at home I believe.

Assuming the Coalers get past the third round they'd have IC most likely. And they'd (we'd) really like them in CC.

Unless I'm wrong, I'd really like to see chalk win on the other side of the bracket

CC would get Richmond Burton at home and IC on the road I believe.

Because of the 5 CPS schools in 4A North, a huge percentage of the upset theory goes out the window. The 1-2-3-4 seeds are all looking at a forfeit. Even if Manteno wins at Marengo, RB's forfeit win doesn't count as a home game so the Panthers would have to go to RB. IC & St. Francis are the same.

The Richmond Burton/Bronzeville game will go on as scheduled no matter what the CTU does...Bronzeville has been @ practice and @ school throughout this process as they are a charter school and do not fall into the CPS structure as I understand it...so that game will be played...

I believe that there will only be 4 potential forfeits in 4A...

I was previously convinced that a potential CC / IC semifinal would be in Elmhurst. If R-B actually plays their round 1 game that changes it up I believe.

I think they but they aren't... meaning that their teachers aren't part of the CTU... I'm 90% sure about that...

Chicago Public, Illini Heartland...Urban Prep Bronzeville apparently won the conference after starting 1-5, their 3 on the field wins were by a total of 6 points, won the conference week 9 with a forfeit by North Lawndale Charter...I guess RB does have a game this weekend...okay, with 63-6, 42-0, and 53-0 losses RB has a scrimmage this weekend. Funny thing is, Chicago Mather was 6-2 and wasn't going to win this conference because they lost 8-6 to Bronzeville.

Urban-Prep Bronzeville, while in the Chicago Public League, is a charter school that is not involved in the current teacher's strike. They have remained in session, continued practicing and will compete. Battle tested through the Illini Heartland....they soldier on...seriously though, give them props...they are out there competing in November, or late October, as the case stands today...
