This ignorant crap right here is exactly what Verne (regardless of the veracity of his anecdote) was alluding too during the broadcast, and why I got such guff on here for agreeing with him. I love what Cal is doing. It does not change the fact I would trade him for Nick Saban in a New York minute. Big boy football matters more for finances, for fan support, for merchandise sales, for university enrollment numbers, for economic prosperity in the community. Basketball at its zenith doesn't come close. Even at Kentucky football brings in more money and there is a significant portion of our fans who still just don't get any of this. It's like trying to explain basic economics to 5 year olds. I'm glad the basketball is killing it. I can't wait for Big Blue Madness. But I want winning football more by a country mile. No other fan base in the south would have to put up with radio caller's asking about the new basketball coach after their programs largest win in 60 years nor posts such as I've quoted above that essentially say "haha basketball is good and football isn't. " It's absurd.
