Do we ever pine for anyone under 65?
Some want the woman beater and some like the flash in the pan Golden boy.

Many coaches would kill it here.

We just hired one that isn’t.

But he’s the coach for the foreseeable future.

We can only hope things get better.

That’s fair. I do think Pearl with UK’s brand, resources and NIL (assuming JMI isn’t a horrible roadblock) could elevate Pearl to a higher level than he had at Auburn.

I understand the reaching for the stars attitude right now. If anything, Pope and this team have just shaken our confidence a great deal. College sports, UK Basketball specifically, can and might be at this time be, a fragile entity. I have seen several well respected teams drop into obscurity in my lifetime. With Mitch in control and Pope , seeming to be idling, this is a real time of concern.

If Pope is indeed doubtful to return, lets hope an organized search with Mitch on the fringe of the search committee can find us the best coach possible. Pearl and Pitino have had their day. We should be looking at coaches of their Ilk but with not as many birthdays. Obviously, Hurley, Oats, and Golden would be great but there are others out there. In depth search, in depth vetting and then hopefully we will get our guy. Mitch should have very, very little influence in the process. He has shown us what he can do already. jmo

Pearl is retired. Pearl is NOT coming to UK. He has all the money he needs and is going into politics. Money is not going to motivate Pearl or Rick to jump into the pressure cooker of the unrealistic hopes, desires, and demands of BBN fans. NIL has leveled the playing field in recruiting. If we have another $22 Million next year, there will be ten or more other schools that can and will match. It is no longer "Blue Bloods" with the recruiting edge. If Memphis, Clemson, Wake Forest, or even VT wanted to buy a potential NCAA championship team they would and could with the right NIL. This was not possible when cheating was under the table. Now all universities can and will do the cheating that it is now legal. Good Bad or Indifferent, this is today's college sports. As bad as we have been in football, we could with a good coach and enough NIL have a team competing for top five football team in two or three years. Basket ball takes less time because buy two or three studs can turn a program around in one year. Duke gets two or three studs every year to keep their team at the top every year.

Pearl definitely has the personality for the job. He would have jumped at the job had we had a different AD someone who would have been aggressive in hiring a coach. Hell pats fits the bill and is younger. If he doesn’t win it all this year we need to go all in on Oates. He’s the perfect fit for a 10 year run.

Glad I am not the only one who noticed this. Pearl under achieves in the postseason 4/5 seasons. His 2020-24 is damn near identical to Cal’s 2020-24 that we all hated except they won an SEC Tournament and then went and lost to Yale in the first round of the NCAAs.

I am pretty sure it’s the recency bias from last year mixed with Pearl’s carnival barking personality that some people love.

I do like that his teams play hard. But they don’t play smart. Auburn and UT under Pearl were notorious for signing knuckleheads, hero ball and poor shot selection.

I wouldn’t revolt if we hired him, but he’s always gonna be the sweaty loudmouth in the orange blazer to me.

The years between 2019 and 2025?

Given UK fans’ great patience with coaches, if we were to hire Pearl and he goes Sweet 16, losing season, Round of 32, Round of 32, Round of 64 are we giving him a sixth year to make that Final Four?

I mean, I tend to give the benefit of the doubt. Because dude was at Auburn. Getting them to 2 final fours. After the disaster they were before with Barbee and really in the 2000's and 1990s. Is a miracle.
