noun
  1. a tendency for people of a particular religion, race, social background, etc., to form exclusive political alliances, moving away from traditional broad-based party politics.

Identity politics, also called identitarian politics, refers to political positions based on the interests and perspectives of social groups with which people identify. Identity politics includes the ways in which people's politics may be shaped by aspects of their identity through loosely correlated social organizations. Examples include social organizations based on age, social class or caste, culture, dialect, disability, education, ethnicity, language, nationality, sex, gender identity, generation, occupation, profession, race, religion, sexual orientation, settlement, urban and rural habitation, and veteran status. Not all members of any given group are involved in identity politics.

The term identity politics came into being during the latter part of the 20th century, during the Civil Rights Era. During this time period, identity politics was used by a minority group to form a coalition with members of the majority.

If you think TRADITIONAL broad based party politics encompassed ALL groups of people, you're delusional my friend.

Just saying, don't fault minority groups for trying to get a piece of the pie. You are all about us being free to eat, that's all these groups wanted to do....and politicians were ready to take advantage of that desire. We need to get back to more policy driven political discourse for sure, I'm with you there, but don't attribute the creation of identity politics to a liberal conspiracy.

I didn't. I think in most of the cases, they very much were needed. Like all things though, they abused it to now you have normal folks like myself who used to have an open ear going completely deaf to it. At this point, I honestly don't believe in minority groups. We all are living with the same opportunities, and like all things in life, some start at 3rd base of game 7 and some work their way up from single A. That will never change.

Humans are tribalistic by nature and we always have been. This multicultural, diversity is our strength BS runs counter to our true nature and that is why there is now and will always be conflict as long as it is being forced upon us. Tribalism leads to shared culture, which is necessary for cohesive coexistence when in close quarters. Diversity + Proximity = Conflict, every damn time.

Multi-culturalism will lead to catastrophe in many countries. Assimilation is the key to success. That is why American is the greatest country on the planet. If immigrants or special interest groups don't embrace American values, we are on the road to destruction. We are not perfect, but we are much, much better as a country than we were 25, 50, 100 years ago. If we continue to separate into various identity groups, it will split this country in half and we are beginning to see the origins of this happening. Not sure this country has been more divided since the Civil War.

I might disagree slightly, but only because it's impossible for me to truly know....being in the majority. But I agree, like unions, what once was needed has been abused.

I don't think that America will survive the next 30 years intact, the question is whether the split will be amicable or violent.

As Kirk said to Balog on that episode of ST: TOS "We grow annoyed with your foolishness."

But you seem to be yearning for a civil war?
I guess what I'm saying is this: I'm pro choice, but I really can't fault those that protest abortion....they believe they're saving lives, and that's something that should be respected.

If you believe the country is splitting, how can you fault those willing to fight for what they believe in? It's seems you would be ready and willing to do the same. Yet, while you spend your time on a db, they are in the streets trying to actually do something. You can't respect that at all?

Say that again, but in English this time.
