The wild and ridiculos speculation on this site is unbelievable.
I bet if we had any coach other than Ash...we would somehow be leading the B1G and getting ready to play Alabama.
Just stop. Not playing...........beating Bama[cheers]

While I get your point and it is not meant as a rip of Gio on the catch. For a QB backpedaling with no idea if a defender may be about to pummel him, it isn't as easy as it looks. I am sure we practice that play but in practice, I am sure it is a hard fast rule that no one touches him. Adrenaline plays in it as well.
I remember back in 07 when we had that lateral to Zuttah. I was talking to Kevin about it and originally, it was planned to go to him but because of injuries, there was so much shuffling on the OL that Zuttah got called to catch it instead. First thing Kevin told me was "Thank God, those 2 seconds the ball would have been in the air would have been the scariest 2 seconds in my life".

I could only imagine what and how much was going through his head as the ball was in the air....

The record would be exactly the same. Except Sitkowski would have become the potential All American savior whose Peyton Manning-level talents were being wasted on the bench by the oblivious coaches. And we'd have threads titled "If Art Started. .."
Yes we would have read #freeart all season long from these same know nothings.

There is a damn good chance we would have been 1-11 anyway, and surely no better than 3-8, more likely 2-9. The problem is we know what GIo can do and how limited he is. Sitkowski was the one everyone assumed had the upside, the arm and three more years after this one.

You play Gio, maybe you win one more game, and where are we next year? Would Sitkowski have been this bad after a year of practice and some garbage-time duty? Maybe, maybe not. On the flip side, who could have known Sitkowski would be THIS bad? That is pure hindsight. Sure, it should have been rough for a freshman in this league, but historically horrific? Don't anyone tell me they saw that coming.

I love Gio, but he is not the guy to win games. The problem is Sitkowski can't even manage games, which Gio CAN do.

Even when we were pretty good we often had QB management issues. So whichever way we went wouldn't have worked out somehow. You just feel it with this staff. .
