I don't mind them going for the head fake if they don't foul because another 7 footer is coming from the weak side. When do you want it blocked? The first attempt or second? Either way you eating leather.
I'll take the bait . . . No, it isn't. Eventually in the tourney we'll run up against a squad that will expose our combined deficiencies and it will have the potential to reveal itself 40 minutes later. That it to say if 17-0 can extend itself (e.g. 18-0, 21-0, 24-0, etc.) for your rhetoric to be useful in a discussion applied to the actual purpose intended - to win a national championship . . . for the 9th time.
The OP is precisely correct about staying in a grounded defensive position. This is a fundamental. Plenty of other observations that he could make which have unflawed basis, yet a perfect running score is available for you to jump in without any thought to it all and say something nifty.
I agree there is nothing wrong with what OP posted. I have noticed that we do go for head fakes and Cal has brought this up many times. Yes we are 17-0 but there is always room for improvement. Good post OP.
i agree with the op. we're currently 15-2 by calipari math. we could be legit undefeated if not for leaving the ground on shot fakes.

UK's players should AGGRESSIVELY go for blocks. For some teams, that would be a bad thing, and yeah, you could say "why the hell is he biting on a head fake?". With the type of size and athletic ability UK has, screw that. UK swats more shots than any team in the country. UK holds opponents to a lower FG% than any team in the country. Challenge everything, all the time. If you're a UK big guy, and you guess wrong on a fake, there's a good chance a help defender will be right behind you just waiting for his chance to make the shooter eat leather.

Okay, show me one team that DOESN'T fall for head/pump fakes every game (college or pro). There's a reason why it's an effective maneuver. Especially when you are a team like UK that tries to block everything. So what, we fell for a couple of pump fakes, we also blocked a crapload of shots.
Pick your battles man, this is on such a minor scale when you look at the overall skills of the game. It's going to happen and there's nothing you or they can do about it. Sometimes you have to get off the floor quickly to get the block, when you're programmed to do that you are going to fall for a few fakes.

As pas for the head fakes. Noel had trouble with it for a while. He figured it out in sec play
With the exception of the A&M game I can't remember a game where we had foul trouble. Towns seems to be the only guy that gets in to trouble. I agree our guys need to stay on the ground, but when they do jump they are usually going straight up. There is a big difference when you have the ability to keep from jumping towards the shooter. Now, will a team expose that by head faking and jumping in to our guys? Maybe, but to this point it hasn't hurt us.
